Mistake number one was partnering with Meg Whitman.

Katzenberg has always seemed more like a creative person than a technology person.

I think maybe because he made computer-generated animation a thing, it suggests he can pick up tech products. He either has more taste to develop on that front or he should stick to producing content. He's been absolutely amazing at that.

Good. If their platform can't make it during a pandemic when everyone is at home looking for new things to watch then they probably won't make it ever.

I don't know if it makes me want to laugh or cry that I make <$100,000 a year and I would've killed this trash idea as soon as I heard it.

Sucks when you're a billion dollars out of touch, I guess.

I need to be a CEO.

Thanks for the Head's Up !

Maybe NOT a good fit for AAPL, but an Excellent Fit for select others !

Quibi's downfall was their strategy, but, IMO, it can easily be Fine-Tuned & become Dominant !

Why purchase a failing video streaming service? ... When they've developed their own.

“It's similar to Netflix or Hulu, but the video content that it features is provided in a shorter 5 to 10 minute format that's designed to be watched on a smartphone in portrait mode.”

So, it’s actually NOT similar to Netflix or Hulu. Netflix and Hulu aren’t stupid.

Seriously, what the actual bleep is this oddness? And it’s being accused of ripping off another service? Okay...

Jeffrey Katzenberg "Where Creativity goes to die!" Almost killed Toy Story and has been a clusterf*ck at DreamWorks.

I can't believe that enough people thought this was a good idea that it became a reality

Who watches video on their phone in portrait mode?

It was an interesting idea to harness social media addictions and scrolling behaviors on FB, IG, YouTube and TikTok and apply it to more traditionally produced content. I never understood how they thought they would steal eyeballs from those free/ad supported platforms that people are already addicted to and keep them on their paid platform that doesn't have an infinite supply of content. Also, I was always curious what their plan was, if the concept became successful, when Hulu, Amazon and Netflix, with established studios and years of experience producing successful content and rights to popular IPs, decided to enter the same game...

The ad blitz and marketing strategy was nothing short of trying to brute force hype a square peg into a round hole and hoping they eventually get it through.

I kept seeing ads and I didn’t quite get what it was, or why I would want a 5 minute episode of anything.
Reminds me of the 3 minute new Micky Mouse cartoons that my kids get so bored with because there is no story or character, just action.

I only watched the free trial to binge watch Reno 9-1-1. After that nothing really interested me. I don't need one minute news clips because I can actually watch the news as I don't have the attention span of a gnat. The ad that's been on TV nonstop with the kid dying in the frozen car seems intriguing only due to the rotating screen thing which Reno had, as I watched it horizontal mainly, and it alerts you to rotate when needed, but it got to be more annoying than fun feature.

Exactly. I would think the pandemic would create a bigger demand for mobile video content, since many people are stuck inside their homes.

To be fair, it was designed for New Yorkers catching a quick episode on the subway. It gives a cadence to the episodes perfect for that timing. Not quite sure why that strategy failed :).

Most of us won't step foot on the subway these days.

What a great time to work in film. Companies dropping 1 billion dollars on content that goes nowhere. Hollywood is tiny and now you have giant companies like Apple and Amazon just throwing around cash the likes of which they could only dream of.
