The shows and star talent they've managed to assemble are actually quite good. As shows on tv+, it would be good value. Want to catch up on shows on your iPhone? Those same shows work well in portrait mode.
This particular aspect of the service is more baffling to me than everything else on it.

First: If you’re settling in to watch 5 minutes of big-budget video, is there some kind of physical barrier to rotating your phone 90°? If I’m watching something more than a few seconds long, it is equally easy to turn my phone sideways to do it as to hold it in portrait mode, and I’ve never had a problem with that.

But the other side of that is, let’s say we really are onboard for watching big-budget short-form video in portrait mode--maybe it’s easier to hold your phone like that while standing on the train, or maybe you just want to explore the format. Then own it! Make that how the app works! It’s mobile only anyway!

Sure, you can set it up so that it’s watchable either way, just like you can have a movie that’s watchable in both 21:9 and 4:3, but you can be sure whoever directed it was doing one or the other as the “primary” and the other got put in for support.

I have trouble imagining this is any different--they either framed it for portrait and made sure it was still watchable with a bunch of unimportant action off to the sides, or they framed it for landscape but you can get away with a cramped portrait view of the action or a bunch of unimportant stuff at the top or bottom of the frame. I’m fine watching either way, just tell me which is better.

Watched a couple of shows, it was like breaking a normal single episode into 5 or 6 parts. Like normal commercial TV but with more ads. Just dumb, who wants to pay for that.

Exactly. I would think the pandemic would create a bigger demand for mobile video content, since many people are stuck inside their homes.
The way people consume content differs when they are at home. Portrait content is consumed while on the go. People at home consume content on computers and TV in landscape.

I am one of those 400k subscribers and i must say as of this writing I have watched far more movies and shows on Quibi than I have AppleTV. Apple would do it self a favor to acquire Quibi as it have far better content in my estimation than AppleTV.

The concept and approach may not be the best but the content is undeniable. To be clear I have all the top streaming services, Netflix, HULU, Prime, CBS All Access, Disney Plus and AppleTv to name a few.

If my memory serves me, Apple recommended Quibi @ v1.0 as "App of the Day" in the iOS App Store App ... does anybody remember what day that was ??? ... I'm fairly sure it was ONLY 4 OR so months ago !

Just another example of Cook & Co playing favorites !

They've thrown in the towel in 4 ? months ??? LOL !
