While I tend to disagree with most of what Radon says, the 8 does have less noticeable lag than the 7. Its clearly just software related and will eventually get sorted out.

Seems like you already agreed that the 8 had lag and it was all just about the X, all after "predictions" that along with the X the 8 won't have these types of issues at all because it's a new device and "planned obsolescence" means that it would work great.

That iOS 11 is more optimized for the 8 over the 7 and iPhone 7 needs another software update? Seems like a pretty straight forward response.
The "predictions" were that the 8 wouldn't have any of these types of issues because due to "planned obsolescence" only older devices would exhibit things of that nature in order to get people to buy new devices.

I said more optimized, not fully optimized. Huge difference it terms of language. And these "speed tests" are hardly scientific.

Coming from a 7, which I still have in my possession, both phones exhibit the same animation delay. It’s a software issue / bug / or purposely stupid software decision...who knows. The Reduce Motion input delay was present for years, so it’s hard to grasp why Apple does why it does. Speaking of Reduce Motion....
Reduce motion has FINALLY been fixed in iOS 11. There is no more input delay when Reduced Motion is enabled that has been present on the last few iOS versions. Reduce Motion is back to its iOS 8 speed and that’s what I’m going to be rollin with.

i've not seen any difference (at least, between ios 10 & 11) with reduce motion (which i've had turned on on my iphones forever)...

it doesn't exist in my experience. someone else may have a different experience. when you consider all the variable (which iphone you're using, what software you're running, how much memory is available, etc... and the random variables of the condition of your phone, etc)... there's obviously no one single possibility. am not saying the issue doesn't exist, am merely pointing out that it does not exist for me.

It exists for everyone running iOS 9 / 10 (at least the earlier versions of 10, never tested later versions of 10.x)
The point is that it is baked into the software, it’s not dictated by experience. Hence my original comment....just because you don’t notice it, does not mean it’s not there.

And all those threads and posts about all devices having some delays and dropped frames in the early iOS 10.0 days...those didn't happen?
Apparently all those discussions from those days are suddenly imaginary...just like these discussions will suddenly become imaginary next year around this time.
Oh no. Not imaginary at all. Some of these same players were making the same claims last year. They're clearly playing word games here as the 7 wasn't even available during beta testing last year. But it's not in your head. Same arguments. Same people. Next year I presume they'll pretend 11.0 was the holy grail of releases. And there will be numerous videos showing just how awesome iOS 11.x is and how it's proof of planned obsolescence.

am really good on my SE with ios11 (with 'reduce motion' on). i spend (sadly) more time on these forums then i do counting possible half-second delays on my phone..

am on an SE, and not experiencing anything like that. try turning 'reduce motion' on (just to try it). reboot? reinstall the OS? call apple? i see no difference with my home button between ios 10 and ios 11. so something may be up specifically with your phone...

It’s not a delay, it’s input blocking. It prevents you from opening an app before the animation finishes. This leads to hitting an app icon multiple times to open an app, because it blocked you the first attempt.

if i click on my home button (i just tried this), there's not nearly enough time to open an app before a window opens. i've never needed to hit an app icon 'multiple' times... it always opens on the first tap.
