Apple has PURPOSELY introduced lag/delay with Home Button interactions

I see what you mean. The animations and behavior of them have reverted back to the iOS 7,8 and 9 days too where they finished opening all the way instead of letting you instantly interrupt them like iOS 10.
It seems every year they tweak something here and there for better or worse with the timing and animations.
I don't really feel like apple wants the 8/8+ to be slower than the 7 was on iOS 10 but that's exactly what's happening by delaying the home button response and slowing these animations. 😵
I don't get it. I think my 7 on iOS 10.3.3 will be faster to bip around on too then the gesture based X. We'll see when I get my hands on one in the store and compare. And we'll see if they ever change the button back but I doubt it will ever happen. This was settled long ago internally.
It's still just so weird to me that they got the animations running nice and smoothly by 10.3 with the instant home button then when they got to iOS 11 some guy was like, "hey this is too fast we gotta take this down a notch and add a little delay for these awesomely fast capacitive home buttons!". And every one was like yeah this feels so much better! Blows my mind.
Maybe they are all just focused on making the X appear faster and better but I doubt they would purposefully cripple the 8 and 7 but it sure feels that way with the current state of iOS 11 and its timing and behavior of animations compared to iOS 10. iOS 11 is just a huge fail with bugs and the feel right now. Imagine if you cut put 10.3.3 on the iPhone 8. It would be awesomely fast.

Or the behavior in 10.3.3 was a bug and now it’s fixed, which still negates the premise of the thread since it wasn’t supposed to be like. Or there really is no new information.

I doubt this is going to change any time soon considering the fact that all iPhones next year lack home buttons and this is probably it for the iPhone 6 era design.Heck even the iPad is getting this design next year. Apple’s probably focusing on the iPhone X which is going to come with its own share of bugs. Just the other day we saw that iPhone X leaked video had a bug where the camera and the torch button were overlaying the notifications list. Home Button is legacy and this is how it’s going to be. I personally hate the new feel which I feel is slower than Android.
With the following applying to it:
First, it's just a supposition that's its done on purpose.
Second, even if it's done on purpose it's still an even bigger supposition that it's part of a malicious conspiracy (a.k.a. planned obsolescence).

Funny how the majority posting in calculator threads would stronglu disagree with you often in fairly harsh terms and ask you why you would defend Apple like that.

this thread is still going? unbelievable. so far, the only thing proved is that some people are having issues with a sluggish home button. no one has proved that this is a deliberate act on apple's part, much less a malicious act. zzzzzz......

There is new information. I'm thinking the "way it was for some" in ios 10.3.3 was a bug and now they fixed it. Similar to the bug that existed where some combination of taps and what nots were able to turn off animations. Apple fixed that and I don't recall seeing threads on how "apple has purposely introduced lag....". So apple fixed the "bug" with the home button in 10.3.3 sometime in one ios 11 release, and now it's being called lag.
This may be mentioned before but guys go to:
settings>general>accessibility>zoom
and check if it is on. For some reason, it you enable it, the delay will increase from 40ms to 60ms.
(Yes I did mesure it lol)
This is definitely not a solution but if you are very sensitive to delays, this may (not certainly) help.

That Apple's implementation, to wait. Why not instant response?
When the os detects the first button press, initiate action 1. When the os detects a double tap, stop action 1 and initiate action 2.
Hang on. The 3DT stutter was experienced only on a handful of users on this forums and possibly some people in the wild. So that means the issue was not there on all phones?

I am not defending Apple. I am just saying there is an alternative solution, hence its not a bothersome issue. If there is a problem with a solution which is within my control, I dont care about the problem. The home button issue does not have a solution. I understand the home button seems like a trivial issue to some users as its just a small delay, but I just dont get why the calculator is prioritised over it.

It is a bug in the same way the no-animation bypass was a bug. Or maybe some looked at the no-animation bypass as a feature that Apple took away and subsequently slowed the phones down. From apples point of view one doesn’t know what apple considers “bugs”. Maybe during these betas and even production point releases they are trying and testing different things.
The calculator bug is not bothersome to YOU. It may be bothersome to other people who may want a WRONG result rather than a slower response fixed first. But going around in circles.
But the no animation bug breaks animations, an intended Apple feature. iOS 11 is doing the same thing with the home button iOS 10 did. iOS 10 home button wasnt breaking anything
Side Note- No animation bug is there on iOS 11.1 Beta 5.

It was just a side note that its there. It only lasts till you lock the screen so sadly not usable.
The home button delay does not fix a single damn thing. There is zero reason its there
Interesting how that works, you are just commenting but those who are bothered by the calculator issue see the type of things you are saying as being in defense of Apple somehow.

Maybe in the same way those who don’t like the way the home button response is should move to an alternative platform? And how do you know the “home button delay” didn’t fix a damn thing? Maybe something else was broke due to the old behavior?
I am only concerned by the solution to my problems. I am not defending anyone. If there was an app on the store which could restore the home button to how it was on iOS 10, I wouldnt even post in this thread. In case of problems having no solution and on feedback being given,its either ignored or closed, it seems to me the behaviour is intentional and is working as intended. The calculator lag is not intentional. Its a real bug
But to those who are experiencing and are affected negatively by the calculator issue wha this are saying is basically dismissive and you are therefore defending Apple by downplaying the issue. That's the double standard that's in play.

Someone suggested that the delay in 11 was done to avoid that multitask jiggle in the 7. (You know... I can't post a video. It's where it bounces down a little and then back up depending on how slow/fat you double click)

Not a bug per se.... but maybe it was a choice to make that speedy 7 button click in iOS 10, and Apple decided to indeed slow it down to force a slower pace of UX, and avoid that 7 multi task jiggle when double clicking.

Yeah you would. You would not be posting any less than you do now on the issue. In this thread or any new beta thread.
Your tune would just slightly change to “is home button lag fixed?” to “is home button lag fixed? I shouldn’t be forced into using an app to fix an issue.”
I seem to recall you used to complain a lot about the music app redesign. Yet there are many alternative music apps available on the App Store. But you still complained.

I have already executed my solution. My iPad is on iOS 10 and it will stay there. My iPhone X is also coming soon. That should solve all problems. Although I am still on the fence about the display size. If I find it too small, I may just return it and live with this home button lag till next year when Apple come out with X Plus or get an Android
It didn't fix a thing because there was nothing broken by it. You don't know what it broke yet you are calling it a bug.
