People who don't own one, and never will (because it has an Apple logo, no other reason)
No it is more than just because of the brand.

It is due to all of these
  • stagnation of computer updates from Apple
  • use of outdated processors
  • limiting ram on a "Pro" machine
  • taking away ports that professionals use for the sake of simplicity
  • removing a beloved magsafe standard
  • selling a machine that is overpriced for what you get
People say how you can hook up to a dongle/dock. This doesn't work and never has for people who aren't at their desk all day. The dongles you have to carry eliminate the point of laptops for people who want an all in one mobile machine.

Hilarious.

This isn't fair to the people who memorized the arcane shortcuts or the location of deeply buried menu options. Now rank amateurs will be able to do things previously reserved for seasoned pros.

They shouldn't call this the MacBook Pro if it makes previously difficult things easy.
/s

Well the great thing is you have to go through a menu to control volume or brightness.

Has it occurred to Apple (or potential users) of the disconnect between the computer being used as a stand-alone laptop (where the touch bar "might" be useful) vs. the amount of time it's serving as a desktop computer connected to a monitor (in which case the touch bar is completely useless)? We just ordered 11 of these new Macbook Pros for our office, and my usage pattern is 95% monitor tethered.

Just the opposite for me. 5% monitor tethered.

Apple is pushing HARD because they know that if this thing is not broadly and consistently adopted, it's going to be a-w-k-w-a-r-d.

Apple has committed to this stupid (no ports? c'mon) form factor for >5 years and they have now asked their developers to commit time and money to a stupid Emoji Bar.

The Emoji Bar can't turn out to be generally poorly adopted, because then it will sit there not doing anything for all that time reminding users and developers that Apple doesn't deal in real innovation anymore.

But don't you know the Magic Bar is 'the future' while Surface Studio is 'the past'.

Why did they take away the function row to do it?

Why keep the existing function row? The only purpose they serve are to control brightness, play music, change volume, etc. Beyond that, it's just taking up keyboard space, so it makes sense to expand the capabilities of the function row.

Hilarious.

lol, their 'picks' (or entire list) is massively underwhelming and quite worrying... I half expected them to work with developers before release to bring it to major apps and really show it off.

Have the only just opened the SDK or do developers really not care about it?

You want even less ports?

You win this thread. In fact, every thread about this generation of MacBook (Pro).

People are total mugs if they but this machine - both from a technical standpoint but more than anything, a value one.

Why complain about a brand new feature that most of you haven't tried? I'm not sold on the Touchbar but will wait to use it before criticizing.

The negativity on here is incredible. I think it's turned into "gate" (antennagate, mapgate etc..) and hardly anyone's used the damn thing!

Let's be honest. Apple have been historically right more than 95% of the commentators here. They have a track record of proving people wrong time and time again. It's almost become a sport where forum posters try to portray outrage at whatever change Apple make. Each change is meant to be just so damaging, so destructive to their "pro" workflow honed over the years. Really?

It seems to never occur to them that Apple have the data and research to suggest that most users do not use their machines the way these "pro's" say they do. It never occurs to them that they actually test ideas out and see if they do improve things.

They know that most of their users don't need 16gb or rarely use the function keys. They have the data. These are not guesses, they are informed opinion.

But we have a whole load of people who know better. Who's edge cases I'm meant to take on board over a company that has consistently hit home runs far more often than not.

I think I'll stick with apples judgement for now thanks...

Is anyone really buying apps (or not buying them) based on whether they're "enhanced for touch bar" (or not)? I doubt it!

I can potentially see the Touch bar help introduce touch screen Macs. With the toucher taking control of menu and toolbars.

Full screen apps would be nicer with the dock moving to the touchbar and be able to swipe between different Touch Bar states , one swipe is the dock, next is the additional tools for the focused Application, etc.
