Emoji aren't necessarily bad, but I can't stand how hideous they look in iOS

But if they were green they'd be offensive to the martians. And you don't want to piss martians.

You know Apple doesn't come up with new Emojis? The unicode group comes up with and approves official Emojis http://www.unicode.org.
... but it's up to Apple to include every update or not.

I'm probably not the target group, but how can people really keep track of that growing number of emojis and find 'em on the keyboard? And if you can type the word for the intended meaning, why not use it, but replace it with an emoji that may be much more ambivalent in meaning?

Really good real-time translators are just around the corner (not even propagating to learn another language, which seems a very strange idea for quite some people) - why go back to super-simplified communication?

I wait eagerly for updated male/female, female/female couples with one or both women wearing the hajib! What a wonderful diverse world.
Yeah - these pixels are a wonderful illusion to hide reality (did I miss your sarcasm tags by chance?). Is there already an emoji with a peace dove?

I think a lot of women with babies will use the breastfeeding one. It's a short phase in life as a mom, but when you are in that phase, it gets talked about a lot with other moms.

That said, I do think "world emoji day" is a bit much.

what kind of everyday conversations would need that emoji?

Wauw man.
Eddy Cue must have been working so hard to get this, almost exclusive, content !!
He is worth every penny
(that is: quite some)

I cannot believe I am reading this. Light-hearted use of Macs is fine but what in heavens name has happened. Even if I can persuade myself that there is a need for emoji the thought that Apple is devoting time, effort, money to producing stuff that is much more Fisher-Price than Apple taxes my reality field to the limit. There are (looking at comments on the web) various bugs, errors etc that need fixing, even on Sierra, so change the emphasis Apple and remember this is Technology not Sesame Street.

We need some emoji search. Sure you can type your message first and then switch to emoji and it will highlight emoji words in the text, if it's in iMessage and a supported language.

Zebras and Elves? Really? That's what UNICODE comes up with?
Suggested emojis I which I think would see a lot of real world usage:

o_O o,0

(above 3 are from Viber)
  • AK47 (for the middle east)
  • Tank (M1)
  • Vodka-Bottle (mostly for eastern Europe & Russia)
  • Hot chocolate/cocoa drink (there's only tea and coffee)
  • empty wallet

I see a use for these two. Chocolate drink and coffee is kinda hard to distinguish. Is the coffee cup regular black or do we need five more cups in case of chocolate, espresso, americano, latte and cappuccino?

I am not offended that someone breastfeeds at home. I am offended when I am paying $100 for dinner and the lady at the next table proceeds to breastfeed. Some things are private. This is one of them.

I wonder if the people at the other table next to yours are offended because they paid $100 for dinner and yet have to watch you eat. Some things are indeed private, but taking care of the basic needs of a child are not. Perhaps you would prefer to eat your $100 meal while the child cries from hunger? Or should parents be expected to remain as shut ins, living "privately" until their children old enough to not offend?

Personally, I like the Microsoft's emojis better. They're flat and minimalistic. Apple's continuation of the 2006 trend of skeuomorphism and semi-realistic looking graphics continues to make me

Im not gonna get political but come on what the hell has it come to now days just stick with yellow emojis all this race colour is stupid how does yellow emoji offend anyone lol they are becoming a joke to many to search thru

You are right, but look at LEGO figures. There is the same situation...

Nursing can take up hours a day, literally sitting and doing nothing but feeding your baby. I did not have a text capable phone when my kids were babies, but I can easily imagine lots of women sitting on their couches, nursing and texting their other new mom friends. Someone sends a text, "what are you doing?" and one emoji sums it all up.

If they don't include the updates then people will get missing blank squares when others do use them. Apple pretty much has to update with new ones come up.

You literally have an Apple emoji in your sig.
I have a signature?

I guess I do. Well you got me. That apple logo really pokes a hole in my stance on the over abundance of emoji's and any news associated with emoji's. Boy is there egg on my face.
