Apple today highlighted spatial gaming experiences on the Vision Pro headset, claiming that it is "the beginning of a new era in gaming."

While over 250 games are available on the Vision Pro via Apple Arcade, the company drew particular attention to 12 "unique spatial games" offered exclusively via the gaming subscription service.
Spatial games built specifically for Arcade on Apple Vision Pro unlock amazing new gameplay opportunities by blending digital content with the physical world. visionOS delivers powerful spatial experiences with a brand-new three-dimensional user interface and input system controlled entirely by a user's eyes, hands, and voice. Players are able to slice apples with their hands as their living room transforms into their very own dojo in Super Fruit Ninja, tee up the perfect shot as they move freely around a quirky golf course right in their home in WHAT THE GOLF?, escape into a mesmerizing audiovisual experience in Synth Riders, and so much more.

The featured spatial games on Apple Arcade include:

  • Game Room
  • WHAT THE GOLF?
  • Cut the Rope 3
  • Jetpack Joyride 2
  • Patterned
  • Illustrated
  • Wylde Flowers
  • stitch.
  • Synth Riders
  • LEGO Builder's Journey
  • Bloons TD 6+
  • Super Fruit Ninja

Apple added that "even more magical spatial gaming experiences" are coming soon to Apple Arcade, listing three upcoming titles:

  • Alto's Odyssey: The Lost City
  • Gibbon: Beyond the Trees
  • Spire Blast

Apple Arcade launched in 2019 and is available for $6.99 per month, providing access to hundreds of ad-free games across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. The service is also included as part of the Apple One subscription bundle, which starts at $19.95 per month.

I remember when the App Store first opened on the iPhone and there were hardly any games on it... anyways, I hope this means that within the next couple of years, there will soon be thousands (tens of thousands?) of cool apps and games for the Apple Vision Pro. 🤞

Well, for a product that "nobody would buy" and now "everybody is returning," the third party apps designed for Vpro keep on coming. 🎉

I just got a note from the fantastic Channels app (the most used app on AppleTVs around my household) that they now run on Vpro too.

And I just saw a developer post in one of the threads yesterday that they have an app to watch the multitudes of 360 degree VR videos on YouTube and Vimeo on Vpro. That should be interesting to try as those are look-all-around-videos (even behind) like these examples (after one starts playing, click & hold on it to drag it around to see other views. In Vpro, you should be able to just look around)...

Cue the pessimists burning time & energy in every thread about a product in which they have no interest and presumably have not purchased to ridicule this batch of apps too. And come back to ridicule the next batch, and the next, and the next batch after that without even giving them a try.

I really wonder how much Meta Quest 3 sales benefit from the AVP hype…

"Meta Quest" had an uptick on release date of AVP. AVP actually dropped more than Quest since then.

Of course these only show a trend of searches but it is an indicator of interest

Trend of "Meta Quest" seems more steady / healthy. AVP is quite a drop after the initial "hype" on release day

Probably as much as $150 Android smart phones benefit from iPhone Pro Max hype at 7-10X the price?

Probably as much a $100 Fire Tablets benefit from iPad hype at 4X to much greater pricing?

Probably as much as $100 Windows laptops & Chromebooks benefit from MBair & MBPro at anywhere from 10X the price to much greater?

But let's focus our consternation & contempt on this ONE product, while ignoring the relative premiums Apple charges for the rest of the lineup. Obviously all of those bargains are basically on par with the Apple versions of the same too. Just think: for only $350, one can get a laptop + tablet + smart phone just as good as Apple's "crazy expensive" offerings of the same. After all, if any VR headset is an equivalent to Vpro, a smart phone is but a smart phone, a laptop is but laptop, etc. /s

"Think different"

Probably best for most general population that interested to get the Quest 3 or something similar / cheaper to see even if they like the idea of wearing a headset, how it fits into their lifestyle before dropping well over $3,500 total on a AVP.

I’m sure there is a backlog of apps still in development for AVP, and we’ll see those released in the next few months. Question is, how many of those will continue long term support, and how many other devs will be enticed to create native AVP apps once the real adoption and installed base numbers are understood.

I think it'll be a lot like the Watch - several apps released in the beginning and shortly after release, then as app developers figure out that people basically only use the watch as a pedometer and a notification clearer for their phone, the apps get removed from the store. Now there's only what, 50 apps for the watch in the store?

Interesting graphics, though as you acknowledge interest doesn't equate to sells.

Just by price point alone, I wouldn't expect AVP sales by units to ever surpass the Meta Quest, there's just not many people who can allow themselves to spend $3,500 on a VR headset. By revenue, though, I imagine the AVP has already surpassed the entire Quest line.

There's an entire global market to be sold Vpro. Even if we Americans return some number of them- and the pessimists seem to be imagining that ALL of them will be returned + 10% more than ALL of them ;)- the refurb store will then sell other Americans... and the world. Of course, they were the same people proclaiming in every thread that "NOBODY will buy..." only to then face that a lot of nobodies apparently did show up to buy ;) so now it apparently evolves into "NOBODY will keep..." in spite of reading posts by lots of nobodies saying they ARE keeping their Vpros. How many times did the little boy cry "Wolf!" before the villagers stopped coming? ;)

Per many rumors, Apple is only able to make somewhere between about 400K units and up to as many about 800K units for this entire first year. I've read 400K is the MAX more than a few times. I have to believe there are up to 800K Vpro buyers in the entire world (of over 8 BILLION people now, of which America is only about 5% of that number), ready to gobble up the refurbs at the refurb discount for those being returned now.

Developers can remember the iOS "gold rush" of early apps that did towards nothing selling in great volume just because earliest third party app pickings were slim. Some won't choose to "wait & see" and miss staking early claims again. And yes, I'll grant you that that gamble may not pay off well if adoption is poor and doesn't grow. But as easy as we can "half empty" that speculation, we could opt to imagine the other "half full" view of the same and consider equivalent upside potential. It's pure speculation right now with the truth only being revealed in the coming months.

We'll all see soon enough. It very well may be a device that doesn't catch on well enough... OR it may be a popular device for enough buyers to make Apple keep right on rolling with it. Against an 800K maximum production number, I still believe Apple will sell out of all they can make this year.

If y’all only knew what was coming….😂.

You’re delusional if you think Apple doesn’t have the big boys waiting to come to the platform.
My highest expectations for gaming on AVP in the coming years are the same titles that Apple made a big fuss about coming to Macs and iPhones, like Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, Assassins Creed, Resident Evil Village, and similar, older AAA titles that the average gamer already owns or can get a better price and with a much better experience on other platforms.

Apple in general is and remains the worst value-proposition for gaming.

It isn't non-existent. It's just terrible.

Where do you get this notion that the "big boys" are eagerly waiting to come to AVP?

Sure, maybe some day if AVP takes off big time. But for now it's a slow start and likely even slower start for gaming on AVP.

Who are these “big boys” you speak of?
And you better believe they are “waiting”. Waiting to see if the AVP installed base has any chance of making any development investment worthwhile. I think with all the hype building up to the AVP release, Apple would have ensured they had at least one mind-blowing “spatial gaming” experience from “the big boys” available with the launch. I haven’t seen it. Whether that meant delaying the launch and/or investing the development directly, it would have been in Apple’s interest to do so.

I bought one after watching all the reviews on the AVP. When the Quest 3 was released it wasn't even a blip on my radar. I had no idea what it was all about. For $500 I thought, what the hell? And it's been the most fun I've had for the past three weeks with technology in years.
