There are so many emojis that Apple needs better categorization of them in the keyboards. It takes too long to scroll around to find them. Also, there's no indicator of which ones have variations.

The best way to do this is to add a search function. Some third-party keyboards already have it.

In most cases, I'd imagine people have a "word" in mind when they go hunting for an emoji. If they just start to tack on categories with ambiguous icons, it's not going to make it any easier to find new emojis.

It wasn’t the point of one team...it was a point of resources. And the poster is simply making things up as he or she has a track record of doing.

Apple doesn’t make the emoji, they’re a Unicode standard that Apple conforms to.

Anyone who works in software development knows this. There isn’t just one team at Apple doing everything.

What is wrong with you? The world has enough hate without you adding to it.

Tim Cook’s legacy.

iPhone would be a laughing stock if Apple didn't stay updated with the latest emoji. Count your blessings since Apple's renditions top out both Google and Microsoft.

As for the number of emoji available now, browsing is becoming less feasible, but instead quick-matches as you type makes it more usable. Type "skunk" and the skunk emoji is offered. I'd hate to go looking for it.

It blows my mind that Apple hasn't implemented a search bar for emojis

Depends on the app. In Messages, matching emoji are offered up as you type. I am surprised that this isn't system-wide.

You will never find the simple emoji that you want when they have hundreds ! Who is going to scroll through all the crap to find one??

Are you complaining about the number of emoji, or the lack of an intuitive solution to finding the ones you want? Messages already offers matches as-you-type, but this is not system-wide like it should be.

I am anticipating a lot of people will complain about emojis, as usual. But hey. If it does not make any difference in your life, you can simply ignore it. Other people welcome these additions.

I think that is a big part of the problem today. People's problems in life are so minimal that they have time to get excited about emojis. Sounds like a high school thing to me. The real world says what they mean in words, which young people find harder and harder to do (not my observation, so search for the research if you don't agree.)

- complaint about political correctness of emoji? check
- blaming Tim Cook? check
- thinking emoji creation deters from hardware development efforts? check
- thinly veiled bigotry*? check

emoji thread is off to a good start, the forums never fail to let me down (or should that be 'always let me down')

edit to add: incorrect attribution of emoji to Apple rather than the unicode consortium? check
edit to also add: old person complaining that back in their day they only used latin characters to message? surprisingly missing

*changed homophobia to bigotry to avoid triggering forum members who are offended by implications they are frightened of LGBTQ+ individuals

Emojis have gotten out of control. There are just too many. You'll end up taking much more time than needed to scroll through all of these things. I'm not sure how they could make the emoji picker any more effective.

Also, it's hard to tell the intent behind an emoji. That's all I'm going to say.

What if my partner and I are both wearing red!? They're excluding us and forcing us to conform to their narrow minded view of only being able to wear different colors.

Maybe Apple's real purpose here is to perpetually exclude people and ensure the emojis always accomplish "inclusiveness" in this dumb 2D grid-layout. The only way to actually be included is with a full blown character creator - the Memojis, which are only available on newer iOS devices.

Pretend you're a champion of including people, but really you just want to force everyone to buy newer iOS devices.

It really does crack me up. How teeny-tiny emoji can have so much power over someone's life that they start getting a major case of the shakes.

It actually frustrates me that they haven’t added a search bar! GBoard keyboard for iOS has!

They have search on the MacOS emoji palette but on iOS I'm left to type a full word then use emoji replacement if it's something I haven't used recently and don't know its location in the emoji keyboard. A general search would be nice.
