But.... I thought we were only gonna hire women because we need to be more diverse and stuff...???? What of our diversity Apple? WHAT OF OUR DIVERSITYYYYYYYY?!?!?!

It's stupid that you felt the need to post this. Are you so threatened by discussions of diversity in the industry that you need to go out of your way to mock it? Please just go away. :roll eyes:

Re: Anand - great news for him. I've always loved his in-depth reviews.

Congrats to Anand. Guy is only 32 and has already retired once.

Retiring from writing is not the same thing as retiring in general as you are implying. Especially with todays news it is clear that he did not retire as he is now working for Apple.

This is awesome! Side note: anyone else hungry for shrimp after reading title/article? :p

Wow! Good move. Dude is a genius and has an amazing understand of tech paired with an amazing ability to write and communicate.

If comments are accurate, he made a lot of money from his site. He could retire if he wanted to, and that was the point of the comment. Obviously I know he didn't retire completely because I read the post I replied to.

Solid site, and solid journalist, save for his assertions that sluggishness with early Retina MacBook Pro was a fault of the GPU and not the software as that technologically didn't make sense. Other than that, both he and his site are decent. Here's hoping it doesn't flop without him.

I certainty hope that the website will keep up the great reviews and such in the future even with Anand's absence.

Using words that have a definition that is different than what you mean is not a good way to make a point.

Hmmm, maybe I got that one wrong, but I think I know what pedantic means. ;)

I would have never guessed this. I've been reading his website since the end of the nineties. Best tech site on the internet, hands down. I hope the staff taking over for him will continue at this level.

As for the job at Apple. I keep wondering what he'll be doing there. I can imagine him being an advisor, reviewer of hardware strategy, an internal reviewer. BUT, I can also see him in higher management, he'd make an excellent "chief hardware strategy officer" :)

Yup. From reading things, it's almost certain that Anand is rich enough to retire from working for livelihood at this point. That also reminds me of his home theatre building articles. http://www.anandtech.com/show/3293

I'll just do my own analysis and post here.

Please do one. I would love to read such writing from someone with expertise.

Speaking of Apple's chips, how significant/realistic is it to expect Apple to change their fab every generation as it's rumored right now? (Samsung this gen, TSMC next gen, GloFo/Samsung next gen with TSMC as another possibility)

Bet they won't display him on their website, as they tend to have a certain.....uniformity in their publicly displayed leadership group.

I don't give the rumors a lot of credence, but it isn't too hard to switch foundries as long as you know what foundry you are going to use before you start to design the chip (that is before you start the physical design).

Once you know what foundry you are using, you get the preliminary design rules and can start designing the cell library and the macrocells.

He'll be so missed at AnandTech but I'm sure he'll do some awesome work for the Fruit Co. They're lucky to have such a competent, talented journalist in their ranks!

Right, because only hiring people that help balance your diversity is a good idea and doesn't lead to more problems. /Sarcasm

On the Anand side of things, good for him. I'm really curious what he'll be doing.

It's always amusing when rumors/analysts suggest that Apple is changing suppliers/foundries at the drop of a hat.

Yep. I assume they are using an approach similar to what I used when I was in that biz. Probably true given the folks who I know who work there. So they have to lock down the SPICE models and design rules about 18 months before taping out (at least they need to be in the ballpark). But easy to believe they will switch from one A-chip to the next.

and Jason O'Grady of Powerpage was hired by Google… Win Apple.
