It would be nice if they finally added public transit...what a hard concept for a Maps app to have.

And as far as SIRI integration goes, why, so it can say, "I'm sorry, but I can't complete that request right now."

I wish Apple would actually care about the world other than the US. It's so frustrating, I sent in a few things multiple of times and none of those were ever corrected.

There is a lot Eddy's team needs to get its act together on. Either he has too much on his plate or Tim needs to bring someone in that can move this stuff forward. TV is getting its butt kicked by competitor offerings, iTunes is a bloated mess and how embarrassing will it be if Microsoft integrates Cortana with Windows desktop before Siri comes to the Mac.

I would think that Apple not putting Siri on OS X, and not releasing a 4th generation Apple TV are choices, not signs they don't have their act together.

After all, dictation is already on the Mac, and Siri must be an easy port.

As for the 4th gen Apple TV, maybe Apple is planning an App Store, but has already asked developers to update their iOS apps for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and to start building Watch Apps, and don't want to hand them more work - or an excuse to ignore the Watch and divert resources to TV based apps.

Not sure I agree. I have a couple Starbucks cards in there and I also use it for my boarding passes every time I fly. The boarding pass pops up on your lock screen the morning of your flight and is then available with a single swipe, no unlocking. It also instantly boosts your screen to full brightness so it scans well.

Yes I'm aware that there are apps for it but here in Australia it's use is minor. But the potential is great. I don't want to use Google Now as that feels like you got every voyeuristic shopping website in your pocket.

Did this ever get live traffic rerouting (in the UK)? When I tried Apple Maps last (around iOS 6) it did an OK job of getting me from A to B, but never got me around various major traffic incidents that occurred en route.

Shame, as this is one of the key advantages of a satnav for me. I'd love it to work with the full functionality of other map apps as I prefer the design and the way it ties in with the other parts of the OS.

I wonder if Eddy Cue is overstretched. Having a SVP of "Internet Software and Services" for what Apple is trying to do seems to be almost like having one person as SVP of "Products" who has to look after iOS, OS X, Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Apple Watch, & Watch OS.

Maybe have someone who heads iCloud, someone who heads the digital stores (iTunes, etc.), someone who heads Maps, someone who heads Siri?

But then I'm hardly qualified to say. Just some thoughts.

If it makes you feel any better, the same thing happens in the US as well...

It would be nice if they could release periodic updates to Maps the way they do their non-bundled apps (the iWork suite, Remote, etc.).

Maps is still my least favorite mapping solution for the iPhone/iPad.... For trip navigation i prefer Navigon and general mapping Google maps. Nobody will beat street view....

All I want from Apple is to let me pick my default applications for all tasks. Should be easy enough and would end the bitching about Apple Maps.

I find it disappointing that, as an avid motorcyclist, I have reported literally a dozen map errors (incorrectly named roads and streets for the most part) over the past year and have never seen any changes or any acknowledgement of the report. Like dropping it into a black hole.

Good. They need to seriously improve Maps. The latest update to Google Maps puts Apple Maps to shame by all metrics other than aesthetic appearance. It's not even funny how far ahead Google is in this space right now. Purchasing Waze was a pretty slick move by Google as well.

Well if they are choices then they are bad choices. What reason would Apple have for not wanting Siri on the Mac? And how about third-party APIs for Siri? Third parties can tap into Cortana on Windows phone. Siri has been on iPhone since 2011 and hasn't progressed that much since then.

I think he is or maybe he's underqualified for that big of a role. I've argued that Cook should hire a SVP to run iCloud, maps and Siri. Let Eddy focus on App Store, iTunes, TV and Pay. Maps and Siri definitely need work. Has there been much innovation with Siri since Apple first introduced it in 2011?

I don't know anyone who uses apple maps, it sucks rhino dung. IDK why they keep throwing money at it, they will never catch google. SMH.

Hi? I actually use Apple Maps all the time, from navigating through DC and New York to Northeastern PA and almost everywhere between, with minimal issues. I haven't driven through any rivers or off any cliffs yet :p

I almost exclusively use transit. No transit directions = No Apple Maps.

My experience with it has been steadily improving.

It still pulls some bonehead moves occasionally, like suggesting Finland when I type in the name of a Brooklyn intersection (come on, you KNOW I'm already in Brooklyn, phone).

But I've used it to navigate by car in LA, Portland and Chicago and had no real issues.

Heh. Yeah. I've typed in address sometimes and the top hit is across the country. Really? And it doesn't recognize as many business as Google Maps, but it has worked when I used it.

Big problem I have is when I search for something, say, Little Ceasars, and it suggests one that is 1000 miles away. There's two within 30 miles that I know of, it knows where I am, heck, it even knows where the two I know about are if I say "Little Caesars <town>", but it just doesn't seem to be even remotely intelligent when it comes to sorting results.

This kind of issue comes up with all chains. Starbucks, Six Flags, Wendy's, Target... You name it, Apple Maps will suggest one thousands of miles away before it suggests one down the street (when you don't specify the town).

The real issue here is you are willing to drive 30 miles for Little Caesars.

where apple maps shines is the desktop satellite view. i've spent hours upon hours on that thing. holding option and scrolling down with 2 finders gives you perspective control. i look at a lot of graffiti and historical crap (mostly in cities) all over the world. some of the best $0 i've ever spent.

yeah, i'm east coast to0, and that's pretty well covered. anecdotally, i've only heard real complaints when i visit people in smaller towns across the country. so the vocal chorus of 'apple maps sucks' is true for a lot of people.

This. I think you are scary close to the truth. I've heard Apple's teams are typically small, tight knit, and handle lots of different responsibilities. That was probably fine earlier on, but the extreme multitasking required today is not sustainable. Too many balls in the air and one or two are going to drop from time to time. I think you're right about MS as well. They seem to be a more focused company lately, and they have no shortage of bodies to throw at problems.

a better surface pro (iPad pro) would let apple reclaim their street-cred throne (cause their sales throne is bonkers). all else would be back burner stuff if they actual kill it like i'm hoping they do. if not, i'm getting a surface this year. but all in all, i'm fairly convinced the chorus of 'everything is slipping!' is a serious case of tech comment sections fatigue. everyone who's got an issue brings it up. the 99% of the rest of us have zero issues with pretty much anything, and 99% of that 99% aren't online in apple threads. the frustrated minority have a great megaphone to screw with people's perception of reality.

I think Apple doesn't allow setting a different mapping application just so it can use us for free testing. Otherwise, I would never use the app.

That said I'm not entirely sold on the new Google Maps. I'll still choose it for accuracy over Apple Maps.

My issues with Apple maps:
#1 - Searching POI isn't accurate
#2 - No lane assistance in navigation
#3 - Sub-par traffic reporting
#4 - Pin locations are not reliable
#5 - Yelp is terrible store / restaurant hours. An incomplete mess.

While Google Maps isn't perfect, it's a much more satisfying experience than Apple Maps in its current state. I'll give Apple Maps another shot in a year or two. The only thing it has going for it is the ability to link with Siri, something I've fixed by jailbreaking.

It was just an example. I'm not willing to drive that far - I was checking Apple Maps to see if there was a closer one. Via Google I actually found one that's 13 miles away. Still too far to be worth it, but less than half as far away as the others.

Yeah, I'm in California and searched for post office and it repeatedly showed me the main post office in New York.

Omg , yes #5! Google is always accurate and Yelp half the time doesn't even HAVE hours!
