How are Copilot+ PCs any different? Microsoft was pushing them at the beginning of last year based on the AI features in Windows 11 24h2, such a Recall and its clipping feature, both of those were delayed, heck Recall is only now starting to appear on Copilot+ PCs.I think the real underlying issues that there were advertising something which they couldn’t even get to work yet.
Telling people to buy a product based on using it in a certain way, which they couldn’t even demonstrate to tech media because it wasn’t working…so yes, they knew it wasn’t working when they launched the ads. They were essentially advertising a concept - and telling people to buy the phone for this purpose.
(No one is asking them to rush out poor software… but please don’t advertise and tell people to buy hardware paste on something fictitious)
This is a company that used to keep their pie hole shut until they could bring the actual working product out on stage and wow the world. (e.g., iPhone launch, MacBook Air launch, etc)
There are hundreds of products that are marketed to the moon and back that then quietly disappear without trace, because they could never reach release level quality. I think that this is picking on Apple because they normally keep things under wraps until they are ready, now they are trying to play on a level playing field, because AI caught them by surprise and they are being penalised for doing what every other company has always done.
The demos and marketing are always ahead of what the products can actually do, that is the nature of the beast. As I said in my first post, for me it really comes down to whether they pulled the marketing when they realised they couldn't deliver and replaced the head of the project, or did they continue advertising? Given that they only started advertising the other Apple Intelligence features a month or so back over here (Apple Intelligence first appeared with 18.4 in the EU and I haven't seen a single Apple Intelligence ad yet), I really can't say one way or the other.
