You and me both. I used to prefer the old keyboard, but now I am so used to the new mechanism. This is all so bizarre to be since I have not had any issues with my MacBook - NONE AT ALL. And I type a lot. I can see this is affecting a lot of people, but can't help but wonder if there's a reason for the "defect". Are people dropping a ton of debris over their keyboard and that's what's causing it. I mean I am really careful with my tech and even though I buy AppleCare for most of my Apple products, I still treat them very very carefully. Hopefully the keyboard is made a little more robust in next iterations.Guess I am lucky not to have any problems with my keyboard -- except missing a better key travel and the pointlessness of the touch bar.
We have six of them in the office with zero issues, is this a real issue or a vocal minority?
2013 MBP 15" here going strong. Replaced thermal paste and cleaned out fans/fin stack. Runs quite and cool. I refuse to upgrade to the current gen because of keyboard, touchbar, ports, and lack luster performance boost. I now do my heavy photo editing work on a custom built PC because Apple refused to update the Mac Pro... I'm tired of the new Apple refusing to pay attention to the Mac...
It's pretty simple Apple, listen to your Pro customers and bring back the old and update the internals. Not hard to do.
Happened to me too, I never eat when using my MacBook, but although having a repair 9 month ago, I’ve got a bad functioning ˋTˋ key againI tried to like the new keyboard but once a key got stuck, and then another, and then the first one again, I realized why people were complaining. I'm a light user and don't eat while using it but lordy are those keys finicky. Bad design Apple.
Another good reason not to upgrade my 2012 Mac Book Pro Retina...
Apple charges an out-of-warranty fee of $700 to replace the keyboard
Personal anecdotes are just that... personal, and not indicative of the general nature of the issue. Even 6 trouble-free units is statistically insignificant. We have six of them in the office with zero issues, is this a real issue or a vocal minority?

I experienced this failure on my 2016 MBP (and Apple eventually bought it back because of other issues). The 2017 has been holding up well so far, but it is less than a year old.
I should have gotten Apple Care. I used to think I could buy it any time during the first year, but found out you can't get it after 60 days.

How Apple missed this keyboard issue in testing is beyond me. This issue is so widespread it tells me Apple either didn't test the keyboard fully, did test it and completely ignored the results or didn't test it at all.
