I don't know how different the Magic Keyboard is from the MacBook Pro's keyboard, but I have to say... I actually really love this design. The low key travel makes typing way quicker for me.

How Apple missed this keyboard issue in testing is beyond me. This issue is so widespread it tells me Apple either didn't test the keyboard fully, did test it and completely ignored the results or didn't test it at all.

Guess I am lucky not to have any problems with my keyboard -- except missing a better key travel and the pointlessness of the touch bar.
You and me both. I used to prefer the old keyboard, but now I am so used to the new mechanism. This is all so bizarre to be since I have not had any issues with my MacBook - NONE AT ALL. And I type a lot. I can see this is affecting a lot of people, but can't help but wonder if there's a reason for the "defect". Are people dropping a ton of debris over their keyboard and that's what's causing it. I mean I am really careful with my tech and even though I buy AppleCare for most of my Apple products, I still treat them very very carefully. Hopefully the keyboard is made a little more robust in next iterations.

Was thinking about upgrading from my 2014 to the new one that is supposed to be released this year, but if this problem persists, definitely be keeping mine for a another year.

2013 MBP 15" here going strong. Replaced thermal paste and cleaned out fans/fin stack. Runs quite and cool. I refuse to upgrade to the current gen because of keyboard, touchbar, ports, and lack luster performance boost. I now do my heavy photo editing work on a custom built PC because Apple refused to update the Mac Pro... I'm tired of the new Apple refusing to pay attention to the Mac...

It's pretty simple Apple, listen to your Pro customers and bring back the old and update the internals. Not hard to do.

They're not going back to the old chassis. The 3rd gen MBPs were amazing machines when they first launched in 2012 but Apple has to move on. They weren't going to keep the same chassis forever. It had a great run, but we're now on the second year of the 4th gen.

I tried to like the new keyboard but once a key got stuck, and then another, and then the first one again, I realized why people were complaining. I'm a light user and don't eat while using it but lordy are those keys finicky. Bad design Apple.
Happened to me too, I never eat when using my MacBook, but although having a repair 9 month ago, I’ve got a bad functioning ˋTˋ key again :(

I experienced this failure on my 2016 MBP (and Apple eventually bought it back because of other issues). The 2017 has been holding up well so far, but it is less than a year old.

I should have gotten Apple Care. I used to think I could buy it any time during the first year, but found out you can't get it after 60 days.

Apple charges an out-of-warranty fee of $700 to replace the keyboard

$700!?

That is crazy.

I think if this was me, I would just carry around a better keyboard with better keys, and just dongle it to the MB/MBP.

I am sure I would be able to find a much better keyboard for a tiny fraction of the price to replace Apple's poorly designed one.

If you've been around the Mac scene for any length of time, you simply cannot be questioning thousands and thousands of Mac users for doing it wrong.

I have the 2015 model, thankfully. But after years of sticking with Apple, I would get a non Apple laptop if I had to get one right now.

We've gone from IO ports being removed, the battery life getting whittled down, prices getting raised, but now a keyboard. A keyboard that you have no certainty is going to work (maybe it will maybe it won't), with no permanent fix from the manufacturer, just a swap out under warranty.

Once some VERY trusted names in the Apple space like Gruber and Rene started to say something was wrong and it happened to them, I’m more than inclined to believe it. You may have gotten lucky, but it’s certailny a widespread problem.

You should still be able to buy Apple Care anytime up to a year after the laptop was purchased. Apple Care+ is only available for 60 days after purchase.

Finally, a legitimate class action against Apple. Had my 2016 keyboard replaced under the extended warranty. Hate to think what I would have had to pay if I did not buy the extended warranty.

Same reason they didn't discover the iPhone 4 touch of death. They wanted so keep it secret and kept in a case... For the MacBook Pro, they properly had a locked down clean room with a robot pressing keys.
