So, your logic is that because you said Marvel movies were crap (which was then followed by Scorcese and Coppola), then this view is representative of the world? Did you miss how glaringly popular these films are with the general population and just how much they’ve made?

Likewise, you say shows like ‘Friends’ are forgettable? Really? Really? I can’t speak for the country of its inception, but here in the UK, Friends has just been crowned as the most streamed show for the past year - again. No mean feat given it stopped production what, 15 years ago?

I think Apple might know what they’re doing here. Certainly more so than Mr Dee anyway...
I was right there with you...until your last two sentences.

I like the idea of an event. Contrast that with Neflix who drops 30-40 movies and shows every month that I never know exist. I wish Netflix would do *more* promotion on the new shows they think are good.

As far as this show in particular, it's hard to know if it's any good until we can watch. The actors who signed up are not terrible, so the script must be passable. And, since Apple has given a free year to everyone who bought a new phone, they have a little bit of leeway to dial things in.

We'll see, but friends is overrated, just like this is overrated and you just part of over hype machine. We have a tendency to be sheep to everything that is popular and not necessarily of any substance. Unfortunately, you got caught by the hyper machine trap. Also, my view is representative of a large portion of the world. Because Friends represent a bunch of people living in New York where most people in New York couldn't even afford to live their lifestyle.

Have you noticed most of the cast of Friends have not even found much success beyond the show? Jennifer Anniston hair and her relationship with Brad Pitt is pretty much what has kept her relevance.

Based on what you’re saying, it seems like Apple’s streaming tv service is going to be a huge success.

Popularity and substance are two different things. Fast food is popular, doesn't mean its good for you.

I've not been caught by anything. I simply stated a fact that seemed to contradict your opinion that Friends was 'forgettable', when the evidence shows exactly the opposite. Whether I like Friends or not, is irrelevant.

In your initial post, you made no mention of 'substance' but I see where you're trying to lead this now.

Yeah it feels like an odd choice they focus so much on the star power, when I should be more interested in what kind of CHARACTERS they play. But so far all their marketing has been based on who they CAST to play whatever characters. I still have no idea what the show is.
The previews should give you some idea who the three primary characters are. I could tell you, but I don’t want to deny you the experience of seeing for yourself.

the one thing which would elevate you above the rest would be to make deal with Film and TV Companies similar to Netflix and Amazon Prime , and Offer your ENTIRE iTunes Library for people to watch. in a similar system to Apple Music..
It doesn’t work that way. Steaming rights are different than sale rights. Ex: new albums aren’t always available to stream on Apple Music, but are available to purchase in iTunes.

I have no interest in paying $4.99/month for any of these shows, but we're supposed to get 1-year free subs if we buy any major Apple product but the watch. What I'm unsure of is whether those products have to be bought on or after November 1. Many of us bought new iPhone 11's after Apple announced the free sub, but they never told us whether those iPhone purchases count. Apple's website is vague on the answer.

Work for Apple by any chance? I've been in the TV and Media business for over 30 years so I may know a little more about how the industry works than you assume.

Then why would you suggest this has anything to do with the quality of Apple's keynotes, which are created by the Apple Marketing department?

Wonderful ! so Apple Can Witness how truly awful this program stands. Apple JUST BECAUSE you Have big Name actors does NOT mean you can best people like Netflix. you will always be the bottom of the rung. the one thing which would elevate you above the rest would be to make deal with Film and TV Companies similar to Netflix and Amazon Prime , and Offer your ENTIRE iTunes Library for people to watch. in a similar system to Apple Music.. only THEN will you be of worth spending the money for !.....rant over ;-)
How did you get early access to watch the show?

Netflix has TONS of garbage content and most of the good stuff they don’t even own.

It's all about taste big guy, and if Apple's keynotes have anything to do it with it then they have bad taste!!! Get me?!??!?!

I was really hoping this show was going to be TV-14. But now that it’s TV-MA, I have no desire to see it. Apple just lost a potential subscriber from me.

I will give it a go, the fact its free for the first year (for me) means its worth persisting with.

The chances of it replacing Netflix? Virtually zero for me.

The chances of me paying for this along side Netflix in 12 months time? Perhaps just above zero.

Netflix went up 20% this year in the UK for me, now £11.99 a month so with Spotify being £14.99 for the family plan, I just don't want to be paying for another subscription.

An event for one show only? I would think it should include the rest of the lineup.

In the streaming game, money and star power doesn't matter as much - good story and characters are paramount for success.
I totally agree but there are people out there that may just watch because they are big fans of the stars. At the end of the season, we will see if it is a success or not.

Is anyone else absolutely uninterested in apples shows?
The current lineup of shows coming out have not piqued my interest enough to sign up for the 1 week trial.

Well it's a good thing Apple itself isn't creating any of their television content then, they're the distributor. The content creators for Apple TV+ shows are independent production companies who then pitch the shows to networks/streaming companies. And those companies decide if they want to buy the show. Echo Films and Hello Sunshine are the creators of The Morning Show. Just goes to show how little you know about how television is actually made.

Was your last sentence really necessary?

Reviews are in. It’s garbage. Great use of BILLIONS of dollars, Mr. Cook. Cannot wait for this endeavor to fail so focus is brought back to building better tools.

If they want people to sign up (subscribe to TV+), then it absolutely matters if the content is good or not.

Why would I (or anyone) pay good money for bad content?

Lets set the criticism aside. The general public likes what they like and watches programs that satisfy the smallest of needs for enjoyment, paired with the ease of access. Its why shows that aired on prior networks are also among the most popular for streaming services- the familiar comfort it brings the audience is a guarantee of enjoyment.
And why a movie like Birdbox allegedly had 40 million views in a weekend, but by no means would it have been a hit to that degree in theaters. That easy access makes a sell less of a challenge for the audience to decide to hit play, so Jennifer Aniston, Jason Momoa? Put them in any show and its probably going to be a hit on streaming services.
