Apple- "it works, just"…Apple- "It just works." lol way to go...
Seeing stories of folks still being impacted by this, and just want to clarify that I've got a super old @Mac.com account setup with iCloud on 5 devices, along with Family Sharing, and none of us in our Family have been impacted by this. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who's been impacted and why.Strange, I’ve got a very old @Mac/@me/@mobileme account and have 5 different devices all setup with my iCloud account, and even tried restarting a couple to confirm, but I’m all good. 👍 Not impacted by this. So it’s definitely not ALL of these type of accounts (old).
I feel for those of you impacted by this. Such a huge PITA to deal with.
I have a .Mac and .me account, but none of my devices were logged out.
Yes...happened to me and I have an old .me account.I didn't mean to imply that all .Mac and .me were affected. That is certainly not the case as for you. But it does seem that most of the affected ones are .mac or .me.
Reports from people who have been affected who have accounts which do not use .mac or .me would be interesting.
Note that old .mac and .me accounts can use .iCloud interchangeably, and no doubt some people prefer to use .iCloud, but in this context they are old accounts of the type that seem to be most affected.
I have a Windows 11 laptop all ready to go. And it hasn't given me near the problems that Apple devices have lately. Only thing holding me back is a piece of development software I use daily. Runs like hot garbage in Windows, but super fast on my Macs. But I'm thinking the next update is going to fix that.Another week, another Apple service fault. Really REALLY not good enough. And if they have been hacked again then they have an obligation to inform their customers.
At this point Apple is getting a reputation for poor reliability across its services. People will start looking at alternatives.
Exactly the same happened to me:Yup, happened to me just around midnight British summer time. Even interrupted a movie I was watching on my Apple TV. Had to do a full password reset and re-login on all devices plus generate app specific password. It even seems to have deleted my account recovery keys which I had to regenerate.
Very worrying at the time as I thought my account was under attack! Maybe it was, or maybe Apple’s infrastructure was being attacked. Looking forward to hearing a proper explanation. Only one out of three of my Apple IDs was affected and none of my family seems to have been affected.
And even having 2FA ON it doesn't send a location/confirmation when I log in in iCloud anywhere on my devices as it used to be before changing the password, should I change it again in case it wasn't from Apple?I haven’t had a reset but, I did notice that Apple no longer sees any familiar locations.
I would leave it be.And even having 2FA ON it doesn't send a location/confirmation when I log in in iCloud anywhere on my devices as it used to be before changing the password, should I change it again in case it wasn't from Apple?
I do not have a .me or .mac email address but I have had this appleID for a very long time. This one was created for the iTunes store before there was an AppleID. So really old accounts might be a unifying theme, not just MobileMe and dotMac.
Friday night, stared on my Apple TV, then all devices had to be reset.
And no communication from Apple whatsoever. Super shady.

At this point if it's not a hack and Apple keeps it so secret , it could have been an AI experiment gone awryIf they perma-stonewall on this one then I think it's time to start asking serious questions about what's going on behind the scenes that they won't - or worse can't - tell us about.

I disagree. When major outlets like Forbes, 9to5Mac, AppleInsider, The Verge, and Mashable are reporting it Apple ought to acknowledge the reports and say they are investigating. It is the very least they could do. But no, they apparently feel they owe their loyal consumers nothing. This is audacity Apple has become.I'm not sure it's that simple.
If we assume a worst-case scenario, a breach that's not been fixed, then announcing it publicly could lead to more attacks or similar.
I'm not saying that's the case because it doesn't appear that any users are having their data leaked or accounts abused or anything similar.
It's worrying and annoying. But I haven't read of anyone facing more troubles than being locked out, or having to reset one or several many passwords.
