So now I will have two Apple accounts because we still can’t merge Apple id’s? Awesome.
I liked Apple ID more. It felt more unique and personal.
Wow so much innovation.
Earlier this year, we reported that "Apple ID" would be renamed to "Apple Account," and this change has now been officially announced.

Apple confirmed the change in a press release today, with "Apple Account" branding now used across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11:There are still some places where Apple ID branding remains for now, such as the Apple ID sign-in page on the web. The transition to "Apple Account" will likely be completed by time iOS 18 and the other software updates are publicly released later this year.
"Apple Account" is certainly a more straightforward name, but "Apple ID" had been used for over two decades and had a lot of sentimental value.

I still have one.Sad to see this change. Reminds me of the good old days of having a @mac.com email address.
I don't remember them ever FORCING separate accounts. It's just that most legacy users had created an iTunes account (For music/app/movie/tv show purchases) long before iCloud existed.PLEASE APPLE WE BEG YOU.
It’s crazy how they punish legacy users in this way. For those who don’t know, there was a time when they forced separate accounts for iCloud and iTunes, thus creating this mess where they have to allow for separate logins to this day.
It’s simply not easy to reconcile because all iTunes purchases are on one account, and all iCloud data is on another. It would be an utter pain to do it manually, not to mention you’d effectively give up your current iCloud email address. Basically, it’s not possible without Apple creating a merge tool.

Tim, is that you?Yeah I think it's a really positive change that customers will love.
Yes of course, it’s the highlight from the keynote! At least now you know what their engineers have been doing this last year.‘Excited’? Really?
Maybe you have a point about the iPad Air, but it made perfect sense with the MacBook Air. Lots of people are too young to remember this, but the MacBook Air removing the CD drive and ports was a big departure from existing laptops. It had no Ethernet port, just WiFi, and if you wanted to install software, you had to do it wirelessly or connect an $80 SuperDrive accessory. The iPad Air and MacBook Air weren’t named for their wireless ability.
This just feels like change for the sake of change with no real purpose behind it
It's not changed with beta installations. Still using ID.There are still some places where Apple ID branding remains for now, such as the Apple ID sign-in page on the web. I don’t expect any issue adopting the new name.
People already substitute the word ’use case’ for use, ‘price point’ for price, and ‘form factor’ for size.
This will be the ultimate FINALLY for those of us who have had to deal with this. I just don't think Apple cares enough about those of us who helped make them who they are today, even though they are the ones who did this to us in the first place. And I'm honestly waiting for the day where they just straight up don't allow us to exist and we're forced to choose between our .mac addresses with short, simple user names and our purchase history. I think that's more likely than them creating a merge tool.Any hope for being able to merge Apple IDs?
I have an elderly relative who gets confused with the use if the word “acount” for anything that’s not a finantial statment. There are many customer who have no idea what an Apple ID is.
Using the word “account” instead of “ID” is probably to make interactions a little easier.
If they don't know what an Apple ID is by now, they sure as hell wont know what an Apple Account is.There are many customer who have no idea what an Apple ID is.

Likely this example is the reason.I don’t expect any issue adopting the new name.

There you have an explanation that your ID is your account. Getting rid of ID eliminates the need for that explanation. You simply have an account now.Your Apple ID is the account you use to access iCloud and all other Apple services.
Timmy should ask a monthly subscription fee for it 🤑If that ain't Courage I don't know what is boys.
