Was expecting this to happen for some time now. Good to have a confirmation.

You can't freely change email addresses for your Apple Account either. Total fail.

I liked Apple ID more. It felt more unique and personal.
Agreed.
Makes sense. Google, Microsoft, etc. have called it account for years.
LOL ... You gotta love Apple PR ... and Macrumors just bowing to any PR published as is without question.

... consistent sign-in experience across Apple services and devices ...

Absolutely NOTHING has changed. The sign-in experience across Apple Services and devices hasn't changed - UNLESS signing into your Apple ID on Apple.com and THEN signing into Apple Account for account administration CHANGED .... then nothing has.

One member here still uses Holla@me.com ;)
^ that in itself if gangsta playa fore-thinking.
The only appropriate response. 😆

Hi, does anyone know if apple has managed to get past the having two accounts yet? I had setup an email account as apple id many many years ago for itunes. I then starting using an icloud account for my icloud and i want to bring the two together without losing all of my purchases associated with my itunes account.

Absolutely legendary! And here I was thinking my first initial last name without any special characters was pretty cool....

Originally when I got an iPhone and iCloud.com debut ... I had thought by ONLY changing the first initial of my surname would've been king ... (see below)

The only appropriate response. 😆

Like Gangster@icloud.com (I wish an alias like Gangster@InDaCloud.com could've been done).

Funny cause for years I got tired of people not understanding how to spell my family name which is spelled phonetically as it sounds and instead of using military alphabet I just say Gangster beginning with an S drop the first G. And everyone just gets it.

Yet during interviews and hiring process I avoid doing that for obvious reasons - even though it would automatically gets cool headnods and grins.

The solution is not to merge them, but to have a way that unlinks the secondary purchases email from the username.

That way I can keep the redundant username that is linked to purchases and have it sent to my primary Apple ID.

This ain't rocket science, every company under the sun allows you to have a username and a separate email, what's stopping apple?

Wonder if AI can sort the cluster from whoever came up with this nonsense, somehow I doubt it!

I wonder if appleid.apple.com will change to appleaccount.apple.com.

So many users have separate iTunes accounts and iCloud accounts that we've been hearing these complaints for years. Given that Apple *could* handle the problem, the fact that they *haven't* handled it to date may indicate that they aren't interested in ever solving it.

Or possibly it’s a deeper rabbit hole than we know and they simply CAN’T fix it. In any case, the easiest solution is none at all because on a percentage basis it naturally becomes less of an issue over time. It’s just a real bummer for us loyal OG customers…

Almost agree, until you have to contact apple support for something else & waste time explaining to the advisor why it is the way it is or trying to get rid of the 'said' email that is the account name (this is a major issue).

I'm guessing the rabbit hole is for folk trying to tie the accounts together rather than still having the two separate & apple can't be arsed with the solution as calls to support may be off the charts.
