The patent isn't about editing messages, it's about the user interface/look and feel/gestures used to edit messages. It's clear if you actually read the claims in the patent.

This narrow examination of the claims goes to the heart of how broken the current patent system is. Anyone can look at this and see that there is zero innovation here. These patent claims here are just as flimsy as those of the patent trolls who attempt to sue Apple. Seriously, I read the patent application and just shake my head, thinking is this a joke? People take this seriously and award it???

Ok. If you know of prior art (that predates May 18, 2015), and which contains each of the items listed in each claim, maybe you should let the patent office know.

How is this a valid patent? Surely editing instant messages has been around for eons... Does this not get affected by "prior Art"?
Prior art does not eliminate a patent, it only protects the prior artists. However, obvious ideas are not patentable. It will not be the idea, but the execution that the patent will cover.

No, prior art invalidates patents.

35 USC §102(a) -
(a)Novelty; Prior Art.—A person shall be entitled to a patent unless—
(1)
the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention; or
(2)
the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.

Give us "save iMessage text as draft" like Google message app or email let you save as draft. I have to use Notes app or email to write a short text, edit than copy/paste it in iMessage when ready to send. Other feature is move the last message which was most recently worked on to the top of the message list.

Oh this would be amazing. I do this all the time in Slack because I’m so good at typos. Haha.

Good job you don’t work anywhere important. That attitude would have seen to it the M$ Office remained Windows only.
Well, someone in power has an attitude that's making it so iMessage is Apple only. They want to sell phones.

lol, all about the consumer then right. Which is what Apple say is most important to them.

This is so disappointing. I was expecting Apple to introduce AI-enhanced texting that's able to predict what the final text needs to look like and auto-generate and send the entire message.

I really don’t like Facebook, but iMessage is way behind in terms of features and not everybody has an iPhone.
So it’s WhatsApp for me.

Eh big deal. Let users instead manage group chats more easily when sms users are part of the group. Adding & removing should be a feature of any group chat. When someone wants to leave , they currently have to put a group on DND or an entirely new group thread has to be made without that user which is good, but without the thread history which is bad.

One needs to appreciate the courage Apple has to implement this innovative feature. Furthermore, they need a patent in case someone tries to steal it. Good job guys.
