I don't understand, can I show up at 1am at my store, reserve it, and then go home and go to sleep?

You'd have to wait in line till they go down the line giving out the reservation passes. Which may well be after 8am when the shop opens.

Does anyone remember/know if Apple (or AT&T) allowed you to upgrade multiple lines/phones in one fellow swoop? Or did you have to start over for each phone? I have to buy 3 phones for my family...

I can't quite remember the last time Apple did pre-order for the iPhone. This leads me to believe that a solid chuck of pre-orders will be delivered on Friday the 19th.

Preorder on time and you'll get one the first day. That's my plan.

It's the plan that works. Wake up at 2 (for me), go to Verizon online, go through with it, and bam it's done. At more doorstep on the day it's released. Can't wait!

Question: I currently use prepaid on AT&T. Am I able to purchase a phone at full price in store? If so, should I get an AT&T phone or a Verizon one? :apple:

This is my question too. Does anyone know if the phone will be available at full price, off-contract for preorders on Friday?

oh the iPhone 6 is 309€ down payment + 19,99€ a month including unlimited call, sms and data flat here. thats not too bad. thats basically 8€ a month for the unlimited all package after 2 years

Anyone notice at the end of the iPhone 6 keynote he said "pre-orders on 9/12,release date and SHIPS 9/19?!"
This is making me think they'll so like lady year where your order won't come until 2-3 weeks after release day. Even if you ordered at midnight.

I ended up canceling my order at midnight and going to the store.

That's my plan, too. I have pre-ordered several times in the past, and it's the way to go for me. The only thing I hate is waiting around on delivery day, afraid to even go to the bathroom, lest they ring the doorbell and then give up and go away before I can get there to answer.

I ordered a DJI Quad Copter and waited most of the day, then took a quick shower. When I emerged on and checked my delivery status on the phone, it said Delivery Attempted, Customer Not Home. I checked the door, and sure enough, there was the note on the door saying they'd try again the next day.

One thing that has me feeling uncertain is the way that they announced the available date:

Next question: So when can we get them? We're gonna start to ship them on September 19.

(emphasis mine)

I won't be at home on September 19, but I know where I will be. And if they START to ship them on the 19th, I'll be somewhere else the next week. I have to move around a lot, and it's a pain having to plan to stay put for the delivery truck.

When I place my order, if I get the "delivered on September 19" message (as usual), then I can plan around it. If I get "ships on September 19", then I may have to give someone else a chance to buy that iPhone, and wait until I can buy one in the store, cash and carry.

In the keynote he says "SHIPS" 9/19,although I hope that's not the case. That's exactly what happened last year. Even if you ordered at 12:01am PST it didn't arrive until 3 weeks later.

I cancelled my order and went to the store and got it.....just because of that.

I'm guessing that'll be my plan again this year.

Apple Implementing 'Reservation Pass' System at Retail Stores for iPhone 6 La...

That is what I did, I asked about canceling and what the fees would be. They rattled off the fees and asked if I wanted to proceed.

Then you say yes, and they bring you to retentions.

Have it delivered to work.... ;)

I feel like I tried that last time and they wouldn't let me change the delivery address. But that's a great idea.

My other issue is that att says I can upgrade early. Contract doesn't end until December. But when I go to the pre order section on apple or go into the store It still shows December. I want to trade in my 5 but I guess att will take it off of my hands too

Or waiting a couple of weeks or even a month to be able to walk into a store and lay down your cash.

If you think you'll be able to buy a 6 within a month with no wait in a retail store, you've got a nasty surprise coming.

Agreed. I've waited in line a few times and watching the line in front of me grow twice as long just a couple hours before the store's opening is so frustrating. Saving your buddy a seat at the movies... that's cool. Saving your buddy a seat in the iPhone line after people have been waiting all night, MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE.

Wow, I've waited in line a few times and never seen that happen, maybe a few line jumpers. I'de be pretty ticked too.

unlocked phone

Today I chat with customer service, they said that T-Mobile version with full price isn't unlocked. We may get unlocked phone on lunch day from store if they have in stock. :\

American past time

Americans with their urban isolation, they like the lines, they have too much time with often noting to do. It gives them the rare opportunity to mingle with one another, now outside their cars and suburban homes, "camping" on the street, often overnight, for nothing more than a gadget. In fact for anything at all. Equipped with portable chairs, blankets, enormous iceboxes, vast supply of food, defecating in nearby restaurants and parks . It is a rather absurd scene reminiscent of Eastern Europe food shortages decades ago. On the other hand the place reservation idea, now that so many Americans are armed, may be simply a safety measure to ensure they don't shoot one another over a cell phone.

I would never go wait in line, and this doesn't make me want to go and do that.
I can wait.

This isn't for you but for the thousands that would.

And it's not may. They are doing it. Paper free, tracking units to reserve a model and report sold out in real time and reduce line jumpers and resellers.

The BF got the scoop today. Not all the details are fleshed out but from the sounds off to online personal pickup may launch on Friday. And there was something about this passes being tied to pre checks for upgrades and thus an Id so no selling, they only work once etc

----------

Apple still wants people to wait in line. It generates a huge amount of publicity... so I'm guessing the digital queue system is going to work very similarly to the cards. Cards are not given out until fairly close to the store's opening.

It might not be a hand out kind of a thing. That's a detail the BF isn't sure about. But it might be something you can do via the Apple Store app. You might not even have to be at the store, do it from home after say midnight and go in anytime in the day

----------

Wait so I am waiting in line for the new iPhone. (yes i get it get my priorities straight and all). Does this mean I can go pick up a digital pass now?

No. Those sort of things never start until the store knows their stock and that won't likely trigger until 12:01 that morning. Boxes will likely be security wrapped with a pallet code to show it arrived and they will unwrap and stack overnight in some system. Stores often have 24-7 security on those pallets from truck arrival to the approved open time. My BF helped the stock crew last year and they had a pair of armed guards on site at 7am the day before. Truck was instructed to arrive, radio dispatch who called store. Guards and stock team meet driver at back of truck and whole thing was brought into ‘warehouse'. BF said it was so serious and mapped out you would think it was solid gold bars or something.

Is it going to ship on the 19th, or be delivered on the 19th? I'm not working that day, so just curious.

This post reeks of insecurity. Probably jealous you're not getting the iPhone 6 at launch.

So after reading through these comments I still have no idea how this is going to work or how it's supposed to work. Can anyone elaborate? I plan on standing in line at my local apple store. Thanks!
