Windows Vista and 7's solution to the legibility issue was to simply put a diffuse glow behind text in the titlebars to prevent it from getting washed out in the transparency. Apple could very easily do something similar to retain the glass effects while still allowing text and icons to pop out.

Also, if the selected item in a tab bar is to use the app's accent color then the selection slider should indeed be flat out almost opaque because those are the biggest offenders for getting washed out.

Please for love of sanity MacRumors, be consistent with which image you put on the right versus left. I generally try not to be overly critical, but this is egregious. Also, while you're at it, choose (before=left) and (after=right). This is generally standard as people usually look left to right to match the way they read.

they went backwards and made it worse
we need it to be frosted look so it has contrast and can be read when there are reflections.
this might actually be a reason I just do not upgrade and then do not buy another iPhone apple. This is that kinda deal breaker, readability is not a joking matter

Then don’t update. The rest of us want that glassy look. You have 3 options: either don’t update and stay on iOS 18 or what iOS version you on, leave Apple ecosystem or accept the new update and stop complaining about it. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I wish some of y’all would stop complaining so much.
I wish Apple would get a grip on themselves and do something right the first time without having to rely on beta testers to tell them how a user interface should work. Whether they work in this department or not, everyone who works at Apple should be embarrassed with what's taking place in public view. It's downright pitiful how far they have fallen.

On the one hand, they need to get it right by putting the right side on the right before comments are left telling them to put the right image on the left before the right image on the right. On the other hand, it’s important to put the left image on the left with the right text describing both the right image and the left image, reading left to right, so no reader is left wondering whether the left image is right or if the right image has been left on the left or on the right in a way that’s not right. Hopefully it’ll all be alright in the end (by which I mean clearly half-left and half-right, respectively).

Apple will likely continue to make small changes to Liquid Glass based on user feedback, [...]
Yep, agree.

[...] and we won't see the finalized version of the design until iOS 26 is released in the fall.
Not even then, I guess. The whole concept seems so fiddled together and immature, I suspect 26.0 won't deliver the final concepts - I expect further corrections down the road of the dot releases, maybe even in 2026.

This is worse than beta 3. What the hell is going on at Apple with these UI designers?! Readability is difficult with this nonsense "Liquid Glass" crap. I rather have frosted glass since it's more legible. And forget about the old people because they sure as hell will be having a difficult time reading stuff when iOS26 final comes out this fall. I already have everyone in the "elder" age group telling me it's difficult to see stuff now. Whoever's in charge of the design and UI department needs to be fired.

Simple solution: Stay on iOS 18 🤷🏾‍♂️. The rest of us that welcomes this fresh new update will enjoy it. We’ve been dealing with frosted looks for a while now. Time for a change.

You want something that is objectively less usable? That's very odd.

I mean, I am not going to update my OS, so I agree with you in that sense.

Still, if you're here to take the side of a unified user interface deployed across multiple operating systems that makes text harder to read, uses animations that could cause nauseousness, and layered elements that make it harder to see what's active or inactive, I'd encourage you to take a minute to think how this would benefit or please you.

Go use the reduce transparency option, that’s literally what it’s there for. This is perfect imo.

That’s not what “objectively” means, glad to clear up this misunderstanding

I don't know what it is but I've been seeing more and more of this lately.
