$50M would actually be 1/400th of $20B, not 1/40....

Gee, sorry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t know specifics of a deal Apple would propose to iHeart.

The $50M I threw out was simply representative as a guess to how aggressive Apple would be in investing in a failing company. I also said if they did, it would only be if it was a profitable venture.

I read exactly what you reiterated above and responded with my opinion. Because, dialogue.

I hope this brings back many of the iHeartmedia podcasts that were stripped out of the iTunes store. Podcasts app on my devices managed tracking and syncing of my listening to podcasts so much better than the iHeart app has yet to achieve.

Are any of them available on Overcast? I tend to find a few that end up either there or on the TuneIn app.

Extra distribution would give Beats 1 and Apple Music greater awareness among older audiences who are later adopters of streaming services
Err.. I don't think Apple is trying to target our Moms and Dads or Grandparents with the Rap/Hip-Hop only Beats radio...

Iheartmedia is well known for its right wing leanings. I would seriously reconsider my Apple Music subscription if they were to bail out that cesspool of reactionary lunacy.
Right!

Instead, we should all totally get immersed in violent left-wing lunacy - we already have it with CNN/CBS/MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, etc. All your base is belong to us, right?

Socialism, here we come! The government will control your health care, education...your house and job are next.

Oh well, at least Apple will have to pay their "fair share". From each, according to his ability, to each according to his need...

Clear Channel was renamed, possibly to escape the bad press linked to its name. (Perhaps for contract/accounting reasons as well; I’m sure the execs were fine.)

“On September 16, 2014, CC Media Holdings, Inc. was rebranded iHeartMedia, Inc.; and Clear Channel Communications, Inc., became iHeartCommunications, Inc”

“On March 14, 2018, the company filed to operate under chapter 11 bankruptcy dealing with a debt load in excess of $20 billion.”

Clear Channel, Corus, Bell Media, not a fan.

Yeah, Clear Channel is an incredibly crappy company.

They are the people who destroyed broadcast radio. They made it not worth listening to long before streaming was a reasonable replacement for it.

They still use the name for their highway eyesore division.

iHeart Media is a terrible company. I know of several people whove worked there and none of them had good things to say.

Yeah then let’s hope they burn some books too

I am finding it hard to equate the destruction of knowledge (burning books) with preventing the further dumbing down of America (shutting down a nationwide monopoly that only plays corporate produced and approved "music").

I love it when people equate facts with socialism, and then equate socialism with communism.

The Kane Show having a show on Apple Music would be phenomenal to me

This is the only Kane show I'd want to listen to:

They are in debt because they bought everything they could get their hands on, overpaying on almost every single purchase. I’m a lover of all things Mac and the owner of 2 LOCAL radio stations in a top 30 market (not many of us left, thanks to them). Our market loves us and we are unlike any of our monster competitors. Radio is not dead or dying because we acclimate, we are free and we are local (those of us that aren’t simulcasts). My 21-year-old daughter freely chooses radio, frequently. If what everyone is saying is true, that should never happen. Radios are still in cars. Last I heard, broadcast radio is over 70% of streaming listenership. Apple isn’t stupid. They’ve simply figured out that if you can’t beat them, you join them. Wink...

Glad to hear that there's still some radio out there that isn't owned by iShart or Sinclair.
