I live in Europe (Germany, to be precise) and have not seen a single iAd yet. Do you get any in America or is it just that no apps have actually implemented them?

10% Increase?
I think this is more like a 15-16% increase...

It has been successfully spun to make it look like an increase.

Yes it may be technically up 10%, (or 16% better than before) but in reality Apple have cut developer revenue by about 50%.

They don't pay for clicks anymore. Overall revenue has plummeted.

Oh, so I can look forward to getting 70 cents in April, up from 60 cents for January, February, and March?

Oddly, the extra dime doesn't excite me. Possibly because I've found that having high quality free apps doesn't pay off anywhere near as well as low quality $1 apps. (Of course, I've found the real secret to making money seems to lie in making a high quality app and selling it for over $1. Let's face it, not every app can be as viral as Angry Birds, so not every app can afford such a low price tag to bring in money.)

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the idea of iAds was that developers would have to replace all other crappy banner ads in their aps with iAds?

Because I've actually yet to come across an iAd, yet loads of my aps have super annoying crappy ads all over them

Can't stand ads on the internet and on mobile Devices. Never click unless by accident. Be happy to see no adds.

Well, then you'll just have to pay for the content.

Strangely enough, the website where you posted this message is financed through advertisements. So you hate the advertisements, but you still use sites which could not survive without them.

Have the terms improved for developers using iAd to market their apps? In the early days that it became available, there were stories that the cost per install was far more than the income per install.

You need millions of iAd impressions a day to make anything comparable to hundreds of daily sales of a 99c app.

I don't see any ads on my iPhone browsing this site. If that changes I'm out of here :)

What do you mean they don't "pay for clicks anymore"? That's how you get paid - when someone clicks.

The problem with iAds is that when it was introduced, there were so many cool interactive ads being made. That was the compromise of having them show up, so you could be entertained by them for a bit, whether it be a puzzle or a couple of movie clips. Now you just get a bunch of ads pointing to apps to download.

In that sense, it has failed because no one has put any effort into making compelling ads that connect users to the content.

I'll overlook that. :)

But this should be worisome for Apple,Inc.

"The extra money will compensate for lower ad rates and serve as added incentive for developers to build businesses on Apple devices, even though they may grab a bigger audience or more ad revenue creating apps for Google's Android devices, which now outnumber Apple smartphones in the U.S."
Why? This is more a function of what kind of apps (paid vs ad-based) are sold/downloaded for each group.

Not to mention that mobile ads cost users money in terms of bandwidth (small amount but non-zero) and shorter battery life (see http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/19/2884902/android-apps-battery-efficiency-study).

Android != iOS. Android apps continue to run in the background. iOS apps are suspended and 'frozen' in the background, with the exception of GPS access and audio playback. While in the background you can't request more ads, like what happens on Android.

But that's the ~º*true multitasking*º~ that so many Android users love!

Me? I love battery life.

Adblock blocked all ads on MacRumors. As long as I don't notice them, I won't care.

One reason android devices are out doing Apple's device's is because they are very cheap, and the economy is no help for Apple.

Apple could also lower its profit margins on iOS devices to make the products cheaper and more attractive to buyers who otherwise will settle for the cheaper solution.

God knows they've made enough profit over the past few years from iOS devices.

I'm not commenting on your larer argument, but as to the above point: there is no reason to believe apps are consumed at the same rate per capita on Android and iPhone. I suspect that app-lovers gravitate strongly to the iOS ecosystem. So even though Apple may have a somewhat lower overall share, I suspect developers tend to think of iOS as offering a bigger opportunity than Android. Note that I have no data to back this up. ;)
