Alright! I just found this out on my iPhone and I got confused and started to wonder how long it has been like this. So I came on here and saw this post. Ok great. It is good step! I'd like to have a bit more but 20mb is better than 10mb.

I'm on Rogers in Canada. I haven't heard from any other carriers in Canada yet.

The Stig

Oh. My. God.
Look, the Stig just said his first words!

Finally!

AT&T was really being a drag on iPhone abilities, but now it looks like they're letting up a little bit.

MacRumors has received reports from several readers noting that the download cap for iPhone applications installed via 3G has been increased to 20 MB, a change that also appears to apply to iTunes Store content. Previously, users attempting to download content over 10 MB in size were prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network or use a computer to obtain the applications. With the ceiling now increased to 20 MB, developers trying to stay under the cap limits in order to avoid frustrating users unable to install their applications while on the go should have significantly more flexibility for their applications.

The change is particularly significant given the impending launch of Apple's iPad tablet device, with 3G-capable models due to be released in April. The increased screen size and capabilities of the iPad will allow developers to create more sophisticated applications that will tend to be larger in size than iPhone applications.

thats one reson that I am going to buy the WIFI only model.

Don't you mean AT&T allows you to download 20MB over 3G? Apple doesn't give two ***** how much you download over 3G. I think this is AT&T's decision.

Given this restriction is in place worldwide I am not sure that it is simply AT&T's decision.

I am amazed how so many posts here focus just on AT&T and seem to assume the the rest of the world operates the same model or more likely ignore the fact that there is a rest of the world...

And why has anyone rated this negative - this makes life easier for us and developers.

I sure hope there's a separate section in the App store for "iPad only" apps. If someone designs an app that requires a full screen and I buy it (unknowingly) for my iPhone and the font looks like 2pt, I'm going to be pissed (along with millions of other iPhone owners).

Am i the only one NOT happy about this? i live in the east bay, and i simply leave 3G off at all times. why? because on 3G i have a dropped call rate of more than 50%, WORSE audio quality, if i'm getting service at all because the network is always down! If i'm lucky enough to grab some 3G, its only about 1mbps anyway, and then dropped when in the middle of loading the webpage or the download. All this is going to do is make it worse! no wonder all day today there was simply no 3G, and it would always just say "searching" and i had to go turn off 3G, and restart my phone and i would get perfectly working EDGE, no issues, always full bars. and its not just me, all my friends that have iPhones are experiencing the same thing, and when i went to the apple store they did a check and said my 3G chip was fine. when i go to a less iPhone-Dense area, like Vallejo, 3G works just fine, a good consistent 2mbps, and no dropped calls, which is all i'm asking for, and paying through my nose for.

AT&T really needs to step up there game.

Thanks for jailbreak and 3g restrictor and cydia I don't have this gay iTunes I control your phone life and wallet.
