With iOS 7, Apple now allows app downloads up to 100MB over cellular connections, prompting users to connect to Wi-Fi for larger apps. Apple previously boosted the limit to 50MB with the launch of the third-generation iPad in March 2012. Before that, users could only download 20MB apps over a cellular connection.

Developers frequently work hard to keep their apps under the over-the-air download limit, as they believe going over that limit can reduce the likelihood of spontaneous purchases.

Thanks Aaron!

This is great. Especially with LTE and unlimited data plans, people are less wary of sticking to wifi and are quite happy to do the majority of their browsing/downloading over the air. I'm pleased they increased the limit.

They know apps keep getting bigger and then they add 64 bit, but didn't upgrade size configurations on new iPhones since 3GS.

I forgot I'll have to deal with this again if I give up my jailbreak for iOS 7... I'm falling off the fence back to my current setup pretty quickly.

We unlimited are in the minority nowadays.

When the app store first came out, one year later I had about 2.5GB of apps. Now I have 17.3GB of apps.

64GB iPhone is looking pretty small these days. Come on 128GB!

100 MB? No, thanks. I'll not do it over the air. That's way too big for me. I wonder how many users have unlimited data plan...

is there a way to set the size limit. I'd rather be able to set the limit to a lower number.

I have WiFi most places but don't want to DL that much and nice to have a pop up saying it is over 20MB, or 50MB

(sure, that's probably an Android type thing to do)
