Sorry folks, but I really couldn't afford the time to go thru all 13 pages.

But from what I have read so far, they are REPLACING the battery of the iPhone5's, eligible for the program and they are not swapping the phones???

When this replacement program was first announced, I had a gut feel that maybe it wasn't the "battery chemistry" malfunctioning, but the charging/protector circuitry associated had some problems. But as they are not swapping phones and spend time for changing the batteries, then the batteries must be problematic!...

Good news is that mine isn't eligible for the present battery program. It's "theoretically eligible due to the S/N" for the sleep/wake function program but as nothing seems wrong with that button's function, nobody swapped my phone, either!...;)

Just had my battery replaced at the local store. It only took a day for the new battery kit to come in.

Other than a little longer wait than I anticipated to pick up the repaired phone, it was easy peasy.

New one came with 50% charge, so I'm topping it off now. Had to reboot the phone for it to see pick up cell service again as well.

I'm curious to see how much better battery life will be, but at least this won't make the iP6 as much of a priority. I'll let them work the early bugs out of it before purchasing one.

Edit: Discovered a bunch of dust under the screen. Now I gotta make another appointment and go back for fourth visit. Ugh.

Brought my phone in. They tried replacing the battery and they said the laminate on the screen started peeling up.

Luckily they said they'll just replace the entire phone instead :D. Unfortunately they didn't have my phone in stock so I'll get one in a few days!

Apple Initiates iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

Thank god they made this.
I used battery info and it said that my phone only goes up to 40%
I'm sure I have to unjaikbreak right?

My S/N is eligible for both replacement programmes, but I've never had problems with the sleep-wake button. The battery, however, is a disaster!

I'm booked in to the Genius Bar at Covent Garden tomorrow. Hopefully they can swap the battery on the spot.

They will FIND ANY EXCUSE not to replace your battery

Just found out the iPhone 5 replacement has huge Loophole where they don’t have to replace your battery
mine and my wife’s phone were both qualifying under the battery replacement
when i went to the apple store on sat….
the manager stated that unless i had my phones battery replaced by an authorized apple dealer i.e. apple store for $$$
and now that i replaced my battery by my self it is not covered.. and SORRY.
also my wife’s phones screen was replaced 40 amazon and they new it was not apple (saturation on color i think)
that that was also not covered.
then with that also used as excuses they did a test on my battery and said it was in good working order.

I had taken my SAME phone and SAME battery to them back on Jan 6th of this yr and said that when the phone reached 20% ish on the battery meter that it would just shut down… but back in Jan was already 2 whole months out of warranty..
and they had a record of it.. DID NOT MATTER. and now with the same battery it is at 35-40% shut down..
don’t know what to do except do a shame on you…
thanks and hope you can post this to teach them a lesson that the internet is a beautiful and POWERFUL thing.

Not really a loophole...you opened the phone yourself, therefore that voided the warranty.

I had my battery replaced at the Covent Garden Apple store yesterday.

Everything went smoothly and efficiently: Arrived for my booked 12:10 appointment at around 12:00 and was out by 12:09. Genius guy mentioned that they had "About 3 people coming in every 10 minutes" for battery replacements.

They quoted 2 hours for pickup. I returned about 3 hours later and everything was ready.

After charging overnight, I've been using it on and off this morning and it's only dropped to 83%, which is maybe not spectacular but still seems like a big improvement over what it was like before.

Based on yesterdays experience, hopefully I shouldn't see any more spontaneous shutdowns when it still reads 30%!

Got my battery changed today. Guy asked how id heard of it and looked impressed that a middle-aged woman had heard of macrumors lol. Was a 30 min wait past my appointment time plus I had to leave it with them for 2hours, but worth it as my son will inherit this phone when I get the 6.

So I went to the Apple store to get my battery replaced. Turns out the battery had actually bent my enclosure so they couldn't do. They said the only thing I could do was buy a new phone. I found this really dumb because the enclosure is bent because of the battery. Guess I'm stuck with this till December when I can get the 6.

I'm at the Nanuet NY apple store right now. Will update this post as the process progresses.

My appointment isn't till 1:50 but I've been checked in & saw a Genius who took down my serial number & why I've come in today. This store is out of batteries as well.

Because my iPhone is also eligible for the sleep/wake button issue it sounded like they're going to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and send it out for both.

UPDATE - When I got to speak with the Genius about the battery he told me we we're going to send it out & I would come back to get it in 5-7 days. I asked him if it would be possible to get a replacement instead as I live 1 hour 30 mins away. He went to the back & came back with a replacement and said we can do that for you. Was out of there 5 min after my scheduled appointment time.

I was worried I was one of the affected 1s since my serial # matched and it randomly died at 23% yesterday. But I am doing an experiment, since this has maybe happened twice in 3 or so years I am only using my phone a little to see how long it takes to drain the battery to see if I need to replace it. At 100% as of 8:30 am it's now 6:30, didn't use at all just maybe facebook once, still 100%
I know I am quoting myself but my battery looks fine. It took 4 hours shy of a week to drain it down to 1% and didn't turn off until 1%.

Man, i watched at least 45 min. of the hobbit, played some games, watched a few youtube videos, and I am still at 75%. the games alone would have drained my entire battery before. I am :)

If your phone is eligible, I'd still get the battery replaced if I were you. The sudden shutdowns started off happening occasionally for me, but just got worse and worse over time.

I could listen to music or whatever for hours, no problem - but as soon as I did something that spikes the power usage (web page, camera app, game, etc...) ... boom!

Wow, I got my refund check in the mail yesterday (Sat) for my battery replacement that is exactly 1 week from the time I called Apple support to open my claim. They not only refunded me the cost of the battery but also the tax as well about $83.00 I'm impressed!!

Got refurbished one

I initially went to Apple Store at Menlo Park mall last Sunday, but they did not have any battery left. The genius ordered a battery for me, and I got a call yesterday to come in for battery replacement. I went there today (Sunday), and the genius replaced the battery. However, my phone did not get any signal (Verizon) even after they reset it. So, they had to give me a new iphone 5 :D
I had to spend $ for a new screen protector, but I got a new one!! Hurray!:)

Pretty darn pleased with this. With the old battery I could have the phone off the charger for a little over an hour before it would shut off (regardless of usage time).

Easy, nice usage statistics!! Unfortunately my iphone is not eligible under this program, now i am getting way less battery usage, but what u got there is really nice :D, AS IT SHOULD BE!!

The Apple store managed to kill off three of my pixels during the change. It's annoying me, but my son won't care (or even notice tbh) so I won't bother going back.

I went in for my battery to get replaced and they also fixed a hairline fracture on my screen at the same time for free so that was pretty cool.

The next day my girlfriend went to get her screen fixed (unrelated issue) and the apple store was super busy they ended up giving her a new 5s on the spot no questions asked. Anybody know if this is actually pretty common or ?

My iPhone 5 was manufactured in October 2012 so its in the time frame however it says I am not eligible, I did get the power button replaced in that program. Why would I not be eligible for the battery replacement?

you most likely got a refurbished phone, not a new one....they did that with me. Said it was new...when they meant new to me...and that openly comes with 90 warranty plus whatever is left on your existing warranty...or some double speak like that.

The Apple store was COMPLETELY useless. I had my wife's iPhone 5 battery replaced at the Apple Store in Nashua, NH back in January for this EXACT problem. I took the phone back to the same store to ask for a refund, and they said they couldn't give me a refund - I had to contact Apple support. So we filled out a web form and had Apple support call me while I was still at the store. The woman on the phone took my info and said that the phone wasn't eligible because some window popped up on her screen. Neither the woman on the phone nor the people at the Apple store would listen to any reasoning or common sense - they just wanted me to go away. I hear all of these stories of other people getting great service from Apple. Personally? I've never encountered anything but fake smiles and disappointment. They have NEVER helped me with any of the problems I've had with various iPhones over the years. They always have an excuse as to why it's not covered. Their warranty is a joke.

Took a bit longer, but I'm happy

My phone was dying anywhere between 20-30% charge left, especially when taking pictures.

-Sept. 7: Took my phone in. They ran a diagnostic and said my battery definitely needed a replacement. Was told the batteries were not in stock. During the time I was there saw several other customers coming in for battery replacements.

-Sept 10: Got a call that battery came in. Was told they would hold it for 10 days.

-Sept 14: Dropped off my phone and got my phone 1.5 hours later. Again, saw several people coming in for battery replacements, and the store was pretty busy.

Obviously, the battery is new, so it SHOULD be better. Time will tell how much better it is. All I can say is I love my phone again! Thanks Apple! Saved me $79. Came through for customers, even if it's been almost 2 years. In all fairness I started noticing problems only recently, about 4 months ago. But still, not all companies would stand by their product like this.
