If you purchase an iPhone 5 new in the near future would you still qualify for this update? My daughter wants to replace her virgin mobile iPhone 4.

I thought my phone was fine it literally did this thing the first day it was announced, almost an exact month later just did it again. I don't know why I have this phone I rarely use it, does it make a difference it shut off just a shade over 30% but right after being turned on from a long time completely off? I'm just finicky about people touching my phone and I.was going to get the 6 plus in a few months, what do you think?

I'm indifferent with my phone right now everything I heard about battery issues were from people with consistent issues and not mine spread apart by a month. I barely use my phone to begin with so I'm going to wait until Apple is less busy with the new phones to maybe get it fixed or I was thinking I can get up to $200 in trade in with att so I might not mention the issues and in a few weeks trade it in and put $200 toward the new phones so I'm out of pocket like $100 or if it happens once every few months I may just live with it for awhile.

I had my iPhone 5 battery changed a few weeks ago, Big improvement only took an hour :)

I called today to request a new battery under program. I sent her the diagnostics but she wanted me to update to ios 8.0.2 regardless. Are they being cheap by stating that they actually trying to save my money in case apple techs will determine that battery is good and it was all in bad software?

I called this week too (Europe though) and although they didn't demand me to update, they tried to persuade me with the same line. I guess corrupted / battery 'burning' software is technically possible, but I'm not updating to iOS 8 before I have a good idea of how much it will slow down my iPhone 5. Specially since there is no way back.

I was told my iPhone 5 was 'probably not' eligible for a new battery, because their test was showing it was 'still fine'.

If it's fine, why does it shut off from anywhere up to ± 35% when I start photographing or video filming within a minute?

sent ours out Monday after checking the website link and getting a repair ticket set up. We had it back on Saturday no issues.

If you are having problems with your battery shutting down around 20% and you bought your iphone 5 from September of 2012 to January of 2013. Do not go into the Apple store with a full charge on your battery because it's possible it will not throw any codes and they will say your battery is fine when you know it's been shutting down. When I went in, I let my phone go down to 35 to 40% battery....the closer you can get it down to when it actually shuts down the better it will register on their PC and show it defective.

I know this is an old thread but I've been searching for a fix for my daughter's iPhone 5. She told me that it has started to shut down randomly. When she tries to turn it on it says the phone needs to be charged like the battery is at 0% but it was at 60-70%. It showed 98% last time that it happened. She has to plug it in to get it to restart and then it will just shut down on it's own. It's an a 2 1/2 year old iPhone 5 running 8.3 and was purchased at the beginning of December 2012. I'm waiting for her to send me the serial number so I can see if it's covered.

Does the Apple store replace the battery, sent it out to have it done or replace it with another phone?

Thanks!

That was my post you replied to...wow time flies, I'm still using the same iPhone 5 with the same battery they replaced. It sounds like your daughter's iPhone is doing the same as mine did. Just note that for me, my phone was not in the serial range but I still took it in to an Apple store, the genius bar hooked it up and it threw codes that it was defective but I had to pay the $79.00, so later I called up Apple to complain (in a nice way) that just because it wasn't in the exact serial range it was exhibiting all the qualities of shutting down for no reason, the rep looked it up and said I would qualify for the refund because I purchased during those time periods even though the serial didn't match. I got a refund check in the mail.

I would make sure you backup your daughters iPhone first in iTunes just to be safe before going in. I made an appt online for the genius bar Apple store in my area so I wouldn't have to wait in line. I got there and they helped me right away with my appt. After they test it they will tell you it will take about 1 hour, so I walked the mall and came back. All they will do is open it up and replace the battery inside and seal it back up, you get your same phone back and you don't lose any data or apps saved all remains the same. They only tell you to back it up prior just in case something happens but it should be fine.

Hope this helps, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the info! She sent me her serial number a little while ago. I checked and found that it's not in the range but I purchased the phone during the timeframe that they list. Just tried calling Apple but they are closed for the holiday so I'll give them a call on Sunday. Doesn't hurt to try.
