Should I even bother? Mine is eligible but I've never had an issue with it. I just worry that since it was one of the ones eligible it might have a problem with it in the future. And at this point I'm planning on keeping it until it dies as I can't really justify paying for a new phone. I also honestly feel the 5s might be the last one I want anyways as I don't want the larger screen that is rumored for the new iPhones (and I know it is a rumor but I've seen that rumors that are as strong as the ones about the larger iPhones are usually are true).

Though part of me wonders if I manage to upgrade it once my upgrade is up and use the 350 trade in if that would cover the part AT&T doesn't cover. If I could get a 5s for free that way or really really cheap I might upgrade to the 5s to get the last decent size iPhone.

Has anyone who has taken their phone to an Apple Store gotten it back yet? They told me 4-6 days and it's already been 6 days and I haven't heard back yet. I'm not in a rush as I got a loaner but just curious how long it has taken for others.

Well, you have two years from the purchase date, so I guess I’d say to wait if you’re not experiencing any issues. If you get close to the end of the available time, you’re set on keeping the phone and a little concerned then do it. Who knows how your perspective on a new phone might change as well, you might wind up trading in your phone sooner than you expect :)

FWIW, our serials are eligible, but no issues here so we’re not going to worry about it. :D

If your phone, although eligible through serial number, does not exhibit the sleep/wake button symptoms, you cannot participate in this programme. So, bearing that in mind, my question is: so you even bother with what?

When did you give it to Apple to repair? If it was last weekend, it is possible that the shipment did not go out until Monday, which may incur a couple of extra days of delay in it coming back from the repair centre. That being said, I dropped off my phone yesterday and Monday is a holiday here in the UK, so they said that phones won't be sent to the repair place until Tuesday, but said that I can expect to have it back hopefully by Friday.

my sleep/wake button on the right side doesn't work, the left side does and my serial number is eligible. i'll be mailing mine in since my nearest apple store is 2hrs away. thankfully my whole family has an iPhone and still have their 4 or 4s on hand. we'll see what i get in return, i'm sure it's a fix but would be nice if it's a refurb.

interested if it's true that some users got credit towards a new device?

It may have been worth for you to go to an Apple store then. If you did it that way and liked the loaner unit they gave you, you could just keep it instead of coming back for your repaired phone.

There are no buttons on the right side of any iPhone. I'm going to assume you meant the top. :D
No, he/she did not. The sleep/wake button is subdivided into 3 sections on the sensor side. This is why Apple staff have a pointy tool to test each section to find out where things are not working. It allows them to put that into their submission report for supposedly more efficient repair process. So what yanki01 meant is that the right-most section of the sleep/wake button is not working.

exactly, thanks

i'm doing mine via mail and I just called Apple to have them mail me a box and start the repair order. per the rep over the phone, they will either fix it or send a replacement. i'm fine with either but pulling for a replacement. battery has been all over the place and spotty network connection.

Nope. It's now day 8 for me.

Nothing for me either yet. Day 8 since I sent it off.

Unfortunately the closest Apple Store is an hour and a half away so I had to mail it and I don't have a loaner. I've been relying on my iPad alone by using FaceTime / iMessage.

My repair status has said, "Diagnosing product" since the day it arrived. I'm going to be mad if I don't see some progress ASAP.

Keeping the Loaner Phone

Apologies if this has already been brought up but I couldn't find it in the search.

I am in the UK and took my iPhone 5 to the Apple store today to get the sleep button repaired.

They have provided me with a Loaner Phone which although is not brand new is in perfect condition compared to mine which has dented corners all round.

In the loan agreement I had to sign it has the following paragraph in bold...

2)Failure to return Loaner Phone. In the event that you fail to return the Loaner Phone to Apple by the Return Date Apple will obtain full ownership rights in the Customer Phone, and may use or dispose of the Customer phone as apple sees fir; and (ii) you will obtain full ownership rights in the loaner phone and acccept the loaner phone provided to you as a full replacement of the Customer Phone. All original terms of sale, including the remainder of any warrenty terms still in effect, that applied to the Customer Phone shall continue in force and shall apply to the Loaner Phone.

To me this basically says I can keep the phone - anyone got any opinions on doing this? My phone is the same spec by the way as the loaner.

I've seen discussions about this elsewhere and the consensus is that you can keep the loaner.

However, my UK loaner looked to be in essentially perfect nick but I've since noticed a bit of something under the glass on the screen, and more worryingly, it keeps randomly crashing and coming up with the screen of death - it was stuck like that for several hours yesterday. It's pretty clear that the loaners are not recently refurbished so for IMHO, it may well be a case of better the devil you know with your previous phone.

If the loaner phone is in a better condition than your original one, it seems like a no brainer. That being said, the stock of loaner phones is finite and they cannot wipe your phone and give it as a loaner (even if they could, they have to wait 2 weeks for you to collect it first), so the "good guy" move would be to get your phone once repaired and give back the loaner. Apple did a "good guy" move by repairing for free outside of warranty and giving a loaner (did they ever give out loaners before?), so it would be nice if you could reciprocate.

Admittedly I've only had it a few hours so maybe after a few days I'll want to send it back!

Any new updates on anyones phone that was sent in by mail? I sent mine in Tuesday, April 29th and it arrived at its destination on Wednesday April 30th. Ever since then it has been stuck in the "Diagnosing Product" It'd be nice to know a little more details, like what part of the queue line your phone is in. Clearly, they have not been diagnosing my phone for almost a week.

I dropped my phone off at the Apple store on April 26th. It now says "Product shipped to Apple Store" on Apple's website. It provided a FedEx tracking number and says it's supposed to arrive today, so I'm going to finally pick it up tonight. The "4-6 days" they initially estimated ended up being 10 days. For anyone interested in checking the status of their phone, you can use this link:
