how long did you have to wait?
I was initially quoted 4-6 days but it ended up taking 10 days total.
how long did you have to wait?
UK story - sent via pre-labelled shipping bag:
I sent off my phone on Tuesday. UPS missed a connection at Castle Donington so it got there a day late - it arrived in the Netherlands yesterday morning. It has been on Diagnosing product since early yesterday afternoon.
Looking at the stories here, I could be waiting a good few days yet!
It's like clock watching, the worst thing you can do is keep refreshing the Repair Status page
Currently using a 3GS with a Pay as you Go SIM, so have Mobile data turned off most of the time, and very few apps installed.
So I'm not the only one who's refreshing the page all day
Sent mine on monday, arrived on tuesday and also been on "Diagnosing" since.
Had some small hopes to get it back before the weekend....
They couldn't fix mines, so they ended up giving me a new phone.
Interesting. Was your switch confirmed bad before this step, or did you just go in and ask for the trade?
While it is tantalizing to think that one might be able to get a substantial discount on a iP6 when it comes out as some theorize, I can see the enhanced trade-in value offer being rescinded, or restricted somehow by the time it launches.
If not, I have until December to have my switch fail, so it could work out very well if the terms remain the same, though it is doubtful.
So you used the $350 to get a 16GB 5S? Did that require renewing your contract?
You mean you bought a 5s with the apple credit that came with your 5?
Got mine back and apparently the battery was swapped because it says 1388mv cap and 0 charge cycles now.
I'm still waiting on my empty box from Apple. Was supposed to be here on the 7th and the status said it had been shipped. I called and they said they were short on boxes. Apparently they just got 13 boxes in so mine should be here Monday.
Point of the story is if you have a way to get to the store that would be a MUCH better option.
Let us remember that it takes 4-6 days from the time it is received by the repair centre, not from when one drops it off at an Apple store. Those in the UK like me, who jumped on this bandwagon last weekend, only had our phones at the repair centre Tuesday-Wednesday this week. This probably means that it will not be until some point next week at the earliest when they come back. Especially if reports of them repairing more than just the sleep/wake button connection are true.
Well the camera is right there next to the sleep/wake button, so maybe it could also have been affected in some way during the assembly process. It is also possible that Apple are throwing additional checks/repairs, since they already have it disassembled, "on the house" to improve customer experience. Not sure my experience is improved by delays getting the phone back due to work that I didn't ask for or agree to, but that's that.it seems most are getting their battery replaced along with the sleep/wake button. I wonder why the camera though?
Re-visiting this again i understand things can go faulty, and nothing is perfect, but this just demonstrates that Apple does not have a good QA department for testing.
This was the complaint i made about two busted replacement iPhones i had, but i ended up getting free 5s.
However, the problem lies in that Apple does not test every since phone in full.
These programs would not be needed if Apple has a top notch QA department..
If i see a constant line of products all need replacement programs, then something is seriously wrong here. No matter what anyone thinks. And unfortunately, one complaint by me may get me what i want, but trouble is, no one else does it in mass.... so Apple just goes on "as normal"
Thinking about sending another email to Tim Cook tonight about the quality of Apple's products. and i'll keep doing it, till something get's done.
well, they're accepting the problem and fixing it. i don't know of another company who would do that with items being out of warranty?
Did you expect anything different? Once a device is outside of its warranty period, the onus is on the customer to initiate any action. However, out of warranty's repairs it's up to the customer, not Apple to recall every one.
For devices outside of warranty, Apple did not have to do anything, so your "so long" argument is moot. However, they probably felt that it would be beneficial for them in the long term to offer this type of repair. This is especially true if sleep/wake button behaviour was found to degrade over time and would have started malfunctioning outside of the warranty period. If a recall is done for "out of warranties" then why did it take so long ?
You do not have to buy Apple Care to have a warranty that is beyond Apple's standard 1 year. In quite a few countries, statutory warranty is 2 years or more. Apple Care just provides additional coverage for situations not covered by the warranty. That's one year limited, plus 2 years of Apple care if you have bought it.
