The linked Apple's web site about this at https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/ mentions "iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue." which is probably why the replacement phone doesn't qualify as it's newer than that.Strange. I had my iPhone replaced 7 months ago because of the power button issue. Apple's website says the serial number for my original 5 is eligible for this program, but the serial for my replacement phone is not. Obviously I no longer have the original phone. So what if the replacement phone power button fails?![]()
I had this problem 6 weeks after my warranty expired and Apple told me it would cost $269 to fix it. No leeway at all. They insisted that it was not a manufacturing defect and not a widespread issue. So I had to buy the part from iFixit and do the repair myself. I wonder if they'll refund me for that.![]()

So it is software problem or hardware? if its hardware i dont get it that you are required to update iOS7
It's possible that they either do not have in-store expertise to repair it there and then or do not have sufficient replacement iPhone 5 units beyond loaners. Or both. Now you have to spend 4-6 days without your phone while it's being repaired.
I love Apple. I do. But to me they've stepped backwards with there OS on our beloved iPhones. We need STEVE JOBS back on this earth. He is obviously still needed!!!!!!!!
For those that are eligible but don't have issues, should the phone still be brought in? I actually have a pile of dust under my camera...I wonder if they would clean it out when they open the phone up.
