Not one of Apple's products has ever or could ever be declared #1 in sales over their competitors... Maybe the iPod.
The iPhone at several points has been the world's most popular smartphone.

This is why I never understood the cord cutting craze. So instead of paying one bill to Comcast or whoever you’re now paying Apple, Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Hulu, Disney etc. and still in many cases not getting live news or sports. How is that better exactly?OMG This is exactly what Steve despised: further dispersing the content landscape into a zillion mutually exclusive, single source content farms that force customers into a maze of different subscriptions and UX's.
Even worse than cableTV - that preserves news services and journalism
Soon, I will become a cable re-connecter...
For sure Eddy Cue should lose iCloud (and any pro apps he might still oversee). But I doubt Craig Federighi, Dan Riccio or Johny Srouji are spending any time Apple’s content endeavors. I wouldn’t mind seeing it spun off and Eddy Cue sent to LA but Wall Street is obsessed with Apple becoming a services company with predictable recurring revenue streams so I can’t see the board ever spinning off this business.I'd really wish Apple would spin-off a new company, say, Apple Studios or Apple Media Group or something, that would be a new shell for all their original media endeavors and the Apple Music service.
I feel like all these entertainment-related services are really diluting Apple's focus as a stellar hardware and software developer. Apple's starting to feel convoluted and schizophrenic.
I want Apple proper to get their act together and focus like a laser beam on getting their foundation hardware and services squared away. Too many distractions. :/
This new media side of Apple is also the stuff that tarnishes Apple a bit in my eyes. I've always considered the entertainment biz a bit shady/dirty. Partly why I feel Iovine and all these studio exec types are a bad representatives for Apple. They bring with them all the negative big-business baggage of the entertainment industry.

Do you watch every channel and show you get through cable? I only get Netflix and OTA and I still have tons to watch. This is why I never understood the cord cutting craze. What Steve felt, thought, wanted was at a fixed point in time, before 2011.OMG This is exactly what Steve despised: further dispersing the content landscape into a zillion mutually exclusive, single source content farms that force customers into a maze of different subscriptions and UX's.
No but I don’t care. I want one bill, local channels and additional sports coverage (which I get with DirecTV). I don’t want to deal with OTA or multiple $10-15 bills.Do you watch every channel and show you get through cable? I only get Netflix and OTA and I still have tons to watch.
Plenty of college basketball, NFL, and college football. I also get ESPN3 already included in my Internet only plan. For news I just record NBC Nightly News and PBS NewsHour. There’s also the free 24 hour network CBS News available everywhere online.
LOL.Not one of Apple's products has ever or could ever be declared #1 in sales over their competitors... Maybe the iPod.
How much does DirecTV charge you? I bet going the DirecTV Now, Sling TV, YouTubeTV, or other OTT service would save you more money. The only big thing DirecTV has now is probably NFL Sunday Ticket. And even then I believe AT&T DirecTV is in discussions with the NFL to expand that portion to DirecTV Now.No but I don’t care. Plenty of money to go around for all of that and more.Apple needs to use that money to fix their software security bugs instead of buying "original" content.
Was a time I said stick to computers , now stick to iPhones and get them right. They are chasing TV shows while they cannot get Apple Music right .
Sometimes I think they are trying to do too much with Apple Music. I have had nothing but problems with iCloud Music Library. Was a time I said stick to computers , now stick to iPhones and get them right. They are chasing TV shows while they cannot get Apple Music right .
I'm just worried about their delivery:
"Come watch all the Apple Original TV shows.... by subscribing to Apple Music..."
Also... it pretty much requires buying an Apple TV to watch this content on a TV... since you can't watch it on any ol' smart TV, Roku box, etc.
That will limit its appeal too.
I think even my toaster has Netflix.![]()
It’s combines with my AT&T bill. I actually get like $20 off my bill because I’m an AT&T customer. How much does DirecTV charge you? I don’t think iCloud music library sucks because Apple is doing to much, it sucks because Apple sucks when it comes to cloud services. Eddy Cue has no business overseeing iCloud. Tim Cook should poach someone from Amazon, Google or Microsoft to run Apple’s cloud business. Or buy Dropbox and let them run it.Sometimes I think they are trying to do too much with Apple Music. I have had nothing but problems with iCloud Music Library.
When will people finally realize that Apple Engineers who works on iPhones, Macs, iOS, MacOS doesn't have a part on making these TV Shows? Was a time I said stick to computers , now stick to iPhones and get them right. They are chasing TV shows while they cannot get Apple Music right .
Again. When will people finally realize that Apple Engineers who works on iPhones, Macs, iOS, MacOS, etc.. doesn't have a part on making these TV Shows?Wish they could stop with the original content and put more money towards patching iOS 9 and 10 against the two big security problems.
When will people realise that without product focus and vision you go from leading the industry to being part of the pack. When will people finally realize that Apple Engineers who works on iPhones, Macs, iOS, MacOS doesn't have a part on making these TV Shows?
The problem isn't the availability of resources but the high level strategy. You guys don't understand companies if you think this endeavor is detracting from software and hardware development.
Any issues Apple has in those areas are NOT a resources problem. They CAN do both things without one impacting the other. There is an execution issue on some of the software issues, although I think they are somewhat overblown.
