Apple Intelligence Rolling Out in the European Union Starting in April 2025

Apple plans to roll out Apple Intelligence features to iPhone and iPad users in the European Union starting in April 2025, according to information included in today's Apple Intelligence announcement in European countries.

Apple's newsroom post confirms that Apple Intelligence features will roll out beginning in April, with users gaining access to Writing Tools, Genmoji, a redesigned version of Siri, and more.

Mac users in the EU can access Apple Intelligence in U.S. English with macOS Sequoia 15.1. In April, Apple Intelligence features will start to roll out to iPhone and iPad users in the EU. This will include many of the core features of Apple Intelligence, including Writing Tools, Genmoji, a redesigned Siri with richer language understanding, ChatGPT integration, and more.

As of right now, EU Mac users can access Apple Intelligence features with macOS Sequoia 15.1, as long as the language on the device is set to U.S. English. Apple has restricted the launch of Apple Intelligence capabilities for the iPhone and iPad in order to work out "regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act."

Apple in June said that it would delay Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and SharePlay Screen Sharing until it was able to determine how to make the features compatible with the European Union's competition rules.

iPhone and iPad users in the European Union who have a U.S. App Store ID are able to use Apple Intelligence with the Language and Region on the device set to U.S. English. In a December iOS 18.2 update, Apple Intelligence will offer localized English in Ireland, as well as in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K.

It is worth noting that Apple Intelligence support in European countries will likely come in an update to iOS 18, and the timing is right for iOS 18.4. Rumors suggest that iOS 18.4 will be a major update that brings improvements to Siri, including personal context and the ability for the personal assistant to do more in and across apps.

The reality is that the bread and butter of AI features won't come until 18.4 in April 2025 any way, so it's not like the EU is missing out on much between now and then.

What are they supposed to do exactly? Develop AI features internally and just publicly release them without beta testing? You can also just disable Apple Intelligence. I swear some people on this forum just can't be satisfied with anything

With the iPhone 16 Pro at €1250, snagging an iPhone 15 Pro under €900 is the real upgrade.

Well, I've been without AI since I migrated to Mac (back in the 90s), I guess I'll be able to wait, besides that way I'll almost be able to switch to iPhone 17, hahahahahaha. Anyway, it's what there is!!

Not entirely certain how DMA really relates to apple intelligence. But having built many natural language and ai tools I can say that multilingual is hard. So I imagine this is more a case of waiting until they have localised models that work ok for eu markets.

Is there any way they can join waitlist now? I am so annoyed by the fact that the public roll out has a wait list in USA! During Beta phase, I argued with my friends that Apple would never put waitlist for a public rollout! Guess things aren't same as before with Apple.

What an utter MESS!! When the iPhone 4S came out I was totally taken by everything Apple and now year after year we get less and less. I just replaced my 14 Pro (because the battery was rubbish) with the 16 Pro Max on the assumption that any firm can have one bad year. I then bought Watch 10 and AirPod 4 ANC. I was expecting to replace my iMac 27” i5 with a new MacMini (unexpectedly hoping for an updated Mac Studio display)

Yet today’s offerings gs are at best, minor, somewhat pathetic, minor increments. Not worth £1000s of hard earned cash.

I am increasingly unimpressed with Apple and I used to be a huge fan

EU has 24 official languages. Apple Intelligence will probably never fully support all of them. Here in Finland we never got even the basic predictive text input that english input system has had many many years. So all this AI buzz and “EU this and that” is kind of tiring.
