A: the Mac is for the most part already opened.
B: the Mac is absolutely nowhere close to being a digital gatekeeper.
iOS and android are infinitely more of a duopoly than macOS and Windows, where windows just absolutely dominates macOS by around 95%.
Plenty of things outside the US don’t exist for iPhone users. Apple Intelligence, Apple credit card, Apple cash, AirPods hearing aid, etc
At least Europe still has physical sims in their phones.
Agreed, I have been using an eSIM for the past year and it’s been just fine for my use. I switched iPhones and it was a breeze.I’m in the UK and haven’t used my SIM card tray since iPhone 13.
I’d strongly recommend you adapt to the future- eSIMs are better security. We have found cases in the UK where SIM cards have been targeted because most people bank digitally these days and they can get SMS tokens to do pretty much anything to your online accounts.
Check this out;I set language to U.S. English and region and it still says not available in your region 😣
By then it will be available in French as wellAgreed, I have been using an eSIM for the past year and it’s been just fine for my use. I switched iPhones and it was a breeze.
As for Apple Intelligence coming to Europe next year I’m looking forward to trying it out. Sure my phone is in French but I won’t mind switching to English since it is one of the languages I communicate in.
You have to enable it in Settings. It’s not on by default. How does one disable Apple Intelligence from macOS? Will a 16GB system covert back to an 8GB system if you do that?
MacOS is not a designated gatekept core platform service: https://digital-markets-act.ec.europa.eu/gatekeepers_enI don't see how the DMA doesn't apply to the Mac...
If Apple keeps releasing only incremental updates, market share will never grow.Mac's marketshare in the EU is tiny. Only reason, there aren't nearly enough users to make it a Gatekeeper. Also most requirements of the DMA are already possible on Mac to begin with.
On a personal note, I hope they will also bring iPhone Mirroring to the EU soon.
Maybe that it’s not an API open to third-party apps. What crude part of EU law does the mirror violate? Any ideas?
Oh well… so we get pushed to Android if we want it or not. Most the AI things are available on Android in the languages we speak. Apple has billions sitting in the banks maybe it could use a tiny bit of that to speed things up a bit.I wonder if we’ll see multilingual Siri support within this decade.
But not in their iPads, unfortunately. At least Europe still has physical sims in their phones.
If Apple keeps releasing only incremental updates, market share will never grow.
I’m waiting when the new snapdragons are going to eat apples lunch.
Well, Halloween is just around the corner and Hollywood film and tv industry goes on production hiatus soon, so costumers will have plenty of free time on their hands to help Apple beta test their AI until things pick up for them again which is usually around MarchNice. US costumers are going to be beta testers for free till the product is refined. Great work Apple
More like 77% vs. 16%: https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/desktop/europeI agree that the Mac is for the most part already "open" but where are you coming up with the data that shows Windows dominating macOS by around 95%?
Language and region are two separate settings. You may also need a US Apple account, I’m not sure.I set language to U.S. English and region and it still says not available in your region 😣
Best commentCould maybe rename it to American Intelligence?
