The best iPhone I've ever had. My X is still my primary device and it still surprises me how well it it handles the latest versions of iOS. Apple replaced the battery last November and it was worth the $70 expense (only expense in 5 years). I'm considering upgrading to the 14 Pro Max but either way I'm keeping it as a backup device regardless when I do decide to get a new phone.

Touch ID is a hundred times more convenient than Face ID. Ask anyone who uses a iPhone with Face ID, he will tell you the thing he misses the most is Touch ID.

I've used Touch ID and Face ID from the day they each launched, Face ID is simply far better. I like being able to login to apps without touching buttons, just look at the screen and I'm in. I've had more failed logins with Touch ID over the years because maybe your finger is not quite in the right position, the fingerprint may be damaged due to a cut, it's a bit damp or the button has dirt on it etc.

Even if Apple integrated an under the screen fingerprint reader along with Face ID today, I'd still choose Face ID.

Still have mine and its still going strong. Will likely upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max next year though, but its not out of the possibility I might stick with the X another year. For the every day things I do, not much has changed enough to really rush out get a new iPhone every year or even every few years.

Looking forward to a return of the rounded edges at some point in the next couple of years. Felt better in the hand.
Still rocking my 11 pro. I had a 12, but went back. The only thing missing for me *really* is 5G. There's always the SE I suppose...

The device which started Apple's inflated overpricing for all products in their line up for the next decade.

I had my X as my sole mobile and Battery health is at 76%. Just turned from 77%, which it was since last year. I am so excited for Iphone 14 pro MAX this Friday!
iPhone X since launch day and my battery health is 75%! Also upgrading to iPhone 14 pro max this Friday 😃

I prefer touch ID, I guess I belong in the minority but resting my finger on the home button to unlock the phone without picking it up was amazing and I miss it. For me touch ID was superior in every way (remember the Covid mask mess?). The optimal configuration would be a combination of both face and touch ID but it's not gonna happen.

(I'm not going to argue what is 'Best'. The best tool for any job is that one that works best for YOU. I get the feeling that some people here would force left handed people to use right handed scissors or vice versa... seriously.. grow up y'all.)

I'd say about 25% of my customers/clients agree with you. But, it's more the Home Button/TouchID combination they want than TouchID by itself?

This group of clients almost all had family members "help" them by buying them the latest greatest iPhones with FaceID to replace iPhones 6s, 8s, etc..

All but a few are now using iPhone SE2s or SE3s.

Most hated an entirely gesture driven UI/UX? The thought process is along the lines of, "Why should I have to work and relearn to use a phone? It should work for me. What happened to 'it just works?'" etc.

I'm not a fan either, but I'm a stubborn old man in a young-ish body. I don't mind it as much as others, but as long as I have an option, I'll stick with the Home Button/TouchID version. When I can't replace my current iPhone SE2 with a SE3 or hopefully another home button form factor SE4? I'll probably hang on to what I have until it dies or there's a security update that isn't available for it.. then? Meh. I'll buy the cheapest iPhone available, not because I can't afford the better more expensive versions, but because I won't care to pay Apple more for a device that doesn't work the way I want.

I keep hearing the fiction that "The Home Button Phones are for people who can't afford the FaceID phones.."

But, none of my clients who have "downgraded" are hurting for money! Boats, planes, yes planes(!), multiple BMWs, etc... Most would rather switch to flip phones than go back to the FaceID iPhones they didn't like? It's.. amazing.

So, there's a rich (if small) vein of iPhone users for Apple to tap, who would gladly pay more for an iPhone with iPhone 13-14 features, and a home button... Hell, a lot of them would pay extra for a MBP with a touchpad that actually clicked again too? No amount of tinkering with accessibility options makes the Haptic version feel right to them... (yes there's a lot of overlap in these two groups. The Venn Diagram is *almost* a circle.)

I realize that Apple's got Scrooge McDuck Swimming Pool filled with gold coins* money at this point, but it's hard to believe that they're ignoring that.

* What part of the spaceship campus do they hide that? Think Tim dives in every day, or only on special occasions?

Anyway, yes, you and I are in a minority that prefer "the old ways". But, I don't think that it's as tiny a minority as some on here would like people to believe... It just tiny enough that Apple, sadly, feels comfortable ignoring it.

I wanted to wait till next year to upgrade from my X so I could have USB-C.
Unfortunately as much as I love my X it’s definitely slowing down and even freezing at times.
It’s definitely been a solid piece of hardware tbough and I was surprised the other day when I actually realized it was 5 years old this year.

I look forward to my Pro Max coming though. Been a while since I’ve had a screen that large.

The device which started Apple's inflated overpricing for all products in their line up for the next decade.

It hasn't been a decade since the iPhone X came out but some prices did come down within a couple of years. The launch price of the 5.8" display 64GB iPhone X was $999 but the 6.1" 64GB iPhone 11 two years later was only $699.

Also, inexpensive iPhone options have remained in the lineup since the X came out including today. Adjusting for inflation, the entry 3.5” 16GB iPhone 4 in 2010 was around $885 in today's dollars. You can get a 6.1" 128GB iPhone 14 for less at $829.

There may be a wider range of iPhone sizes, cameras, features, etc. and therefore prices these days but that doesn't mean there still aren't low priced phones to be had compared to the past.

the best iPhone & the biggest leap forward - loved it.

mine was hammered daily & then passed along to my teenager. zero days-off since new, battery health @ 69%.

sadly developed green screen of death last weekend & now looks like neon green plasma is emerging from (widening) vertical cracks in the subscreen ☹️

I love my X. Only reason I’m upgrading this year is I made the mistake of getting the 64Gb version… Modern apps eat storage like nothing else.

I know it hasn’t been a decade but you can bet your house that Apple will continue to increase prices for the next 5 years.

I don’t count non Pro iPhones. Steve Jobs vision was always to make the very best product at a reasonable price.

The Pro Max models represents the very best. In my mind the Pro and Pro Max models should be the only iPhones in existence. BUT they should be priced at the regular models price i.e. the non pro 12, 13, 14 etc.

The Pro range only came about to increase profits and greed from Apple.

It's still my main phone. Haven't really seen a reason to update to the 11, 12, 13 or 14.

The iPhone 4 and X are the best devices Apple has ever made, IMO. Just really excellent craftsmanship.

I will say, though - I've never used a device as slippery as the X. It will find a way to fall off any flat surface. It needs a case to give it some grip.

I actually chose to get the 8 Plus over the X, as didn’t really like the notch and Face ID only authentication. I sort of regret it now as adapted to the notch and Face ID with my 12 mini, and the 5.8” size of the X/XS was a great size. The 8 plus released with the X was/is a great phone also though.

The last iPhone I was hyped for, and that in a crazy way, especially that the launch was only in November... Heck, that was the only time I lined up for it a few hours before the store opened because I landed a very late delivery date when preorders opened. And then after I picked it up, for weeks I had been constantly asked by people about the phone - on the subway, at the gym, or just in the street. Never experienced anything like that with anything I owned 😂 crazy how big of a progress this design was back then!

You specifically said "all products in their line up." How can you not count non-Pro phones? Non-Pro phones are all Apple had for many years. Non-Pro phones have continued to be improved and are significant to the iPhone lineup. Even under Steve Jobs, Apple offered varying levels of computers and other products.

If there was a restaurant that had previously only offered one steak option (sirloin) but then added filet mignon to the menu, would you argue that the restaurant now overpriced all of their steaks even though sirloin was still offered at lower prices? I assume not but that’s basically what you are saying here regarding iPhone prices.

Apple only had one phone level in the early years ("sirloin") but eventually expanded their offerings to include other, higher level "cuts of steaks" which naturally would come at higher prices than the regular "sirloin" phones.

Many of today’s much improved iPhones are actually pretty reasonably priced (at least after adjusting for inflation) compared to prices of iPhones from years ago. One example being the iPhone 4 versus iPhone 14 comparison in my previous post.

I wonder if the cracks are starting to show for the two tiered pro/non pro line up.

The phone is such a mature product they are putting all of the new functionality in the pro phones and the standard iPhone has barely changed since the 12

I was this year, but since the 14 is a flop without either USBC, nor WIFI 6E, and an expanded island that encroaches into the screen even more than the notch did... It's still just not very enticing.
I'm simply done paying $1000+ for phones that don't offer anything "new" that I truly need. All the features since the X are nice to have, but I just don't care about most of them. A better camera would be nice but that's not worth $1000 to me. My X is still fast enough (I don't play any games or use any heavy apps), I don't care about 5G, I don't care if the edges are rounded or not, I don't care about a smaller notch...excuse me - Dynamic Island..... It's so much gimmick for a lot of money. Phones, nowadays, offer less and less new features that I really need, but the prices still go up and up.
My plan is to get the new SE if they really use the XR design for the next version.
