Apple announced a sweeping set of new subscription tools for App Store developers at WWDC 2026, including cross-developer subscription bundles, group and enterprise purchasing options, retention tools, and a streamlined submission workflow.

Subscription Bundles and Suites

The main change is a new Bundle and Suite system that lets developers partner with each other to offer combined subscriptions spanning multiple apps for the first time. Previously, developers could only bundle subscriptions within their own catalog. With Bundles, subscribers can purchase access to multiple subscriptions in a single transaction rather than buying each individually.

Suites go a step further, offering a set of subscriptions that are not available standalone, purchasable as a single subscription. Apple says more details on how to request Bundle and Suite functionality will be available later this summer.

The move mirrors strategies common among streaming services. For example, Apple TV itself offers Peacock as an add-on for $2 per month, and subscription bundles are generally associated with stronger user retention than standalone plans.

Retention Messaging

Retention Messaging is a new tool that lets developers reach subscribers at the moment they choose to cancel. Developers can deliver custom messaging about a subscription's value alongside imagery and even attach a special offer, without adding friction to the cancellation flow.

Retention Messages can be configured in App Store Connect or via a new Retention Messaging API for more direct, real-time interaction with subscribers. The feature is coming this fall.

Group and Volume Purchasing

Apple is also introducing two new ways for developers to sell subscriptions beyond individual consumers. Group Purchases let a single subscriber buy multiple seats and invite others to join, with Apple handling the invitation flow. Each member joins from their own account, making it straightforward to manage who is in the group.

Volume Purchasing makes subscriptions available to enterprise and education buyers through Apple School Manager and Apple Business, fitting into existing device and identity management workflows.

Volume Purchasing is coming this fall and Group Purchases will arrive later this year.

12-Month Commitment Plans

Monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment, which offer a more affordable payment option for subscribers, are now available. Subscribers can view their completed and remaining payments in their Apple Account, and Apple will send email reminders ahead of renewal dates, with push notifications available for those who have opted in.

The payment type is available on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 or later, everywhere except the United States and Singapore.

Streamlined Submission Workflow

There is also an overhauled in-app purchase submission workflow in App Store Connect. Developers can now group multiple in-app purchases, including subscriptions, into a single submission, or combine them with In-App Events, custom product pages, and product page optimization tests, with review status and App Review messages all visible in one centralized view.

Support for App Store Connect's web interface and the App Store Connect API is coming later this summer.

No thanks. I don't need developers to remind me how their overpriced subscription brings me "so much value" and practically beg me to remain subscribed.

Unless there's a lifetime subscription option, I avoid monthly subscription software at all costs.

It's entire reason why I no longer deal with Adobe (Creative Suite), Maxxon (Z-Brush), Canva (Affinity), etc. I may be a drop in a bucket of their insatiable revenue model, but I can still protest by voting with my wallet.

I’m calling it now, parent gives child their password because of course THEIR child would NEVER spend without their parents approval…

And then the child buys a subscription for ‘gems’ or ‘coins’ for some mobile game - and the parent is stuck paying 20 a month 12 months.

And of course it will be everyone fault but theirs.

I have a revolutionary idea, a completely new business model for software , that users will love much more than monthly/yearly renting subscriptions :

- Buy the app for a one-time fixed price, and you can use it forever. Everytime a new important version comes out, you can purchase what i call “an upgrade” for a lower price than the initial price, and your previous version will be updated to the new one, and you will also keep it forever.

I patented this innovative business model , but i’m giving it for free to the entire world. Enjoy.😉

Most all the changes are often to help companies rather than help the users which is why they add such things sparingly. By not offering such things to the companies though, they simply choose not to offer App Store versions at all, and then the net experience for the customer can be 100x worse since none of the other protections guaranteed. So I'm very happy to see them offer more realistic changes to help get more of the big brands onboard with the App Store.

Greed, greed and more greed, as the experience for the user becomes worse and worse. Sad what the App Store has become.
Wait until Apple starts double charging you and customer service cannot override the extra charge because Apple's A.I. says "no"

Affinity is FREE and amazingly pro quality!
Only the not neccessary AI addon requires a sub.

The “Please please don’t go here’s our special offer” already adds friction to the cancellation flow.

Cancel means cancel. Don’t make this like trying to get out of a cable TV or satellite radio subscription.

Have you tried to cancel gym membership? 😀

As many apps have become subscription instead of purchases, we need family sharing of subscriptions. But I don’t know if this is already possible but very seldomly used or not really possible currently. Anyone knows?
