Was so excited when I saw they added a quad-core option to the non server model. But the excitement left when I saw that they removed the discrete graphics!! That is why I didn't get a server model before!

Ditto. If I could have got a quad core and discrete graphics card before, I'd have a 2011 model.

Yes it is. As you can see here:

It's faster than the offering before. Deal with it. Crying a bit more should make Apple change everything. Good luck.

That's only comparing the integrated card to the new integrated card. Not sure what you're trying to prove when the previous model had the option for a discrete card and the new one doesn't. Not sure how that can be spun into something positive or an "upgrade".

No SSD option for the 2.5 dual core mini but the others get it. I just want to know if I can put 2 SSD drives in the base model or did apple remove that option on the motherboard to stop folks from adding another drive. Would make a nice HTCP but until I see the breakdown inside, I'll be holding my money and keeping my 2010 mini. Integrated video kind of bites but if its used as a HTCP, the intel 4000 will surfice.

Gonna replace my heater (2006 Mac Pro 16GB) with the 2.6Ghz i7 model with the fusion drive option and 16GB of ram.

Technology has moved on quite a bit, nice not to consume so much BTUs and watts for 24/7 use.

Fusion drive is slick, I built a Ivy Bridge and Sandy bridge box and use the intel caching (128 vertex 4s on both builds) and it really works well. Nice to see Apple now offers it as a preconfigured idiot proof package.

Was actually going to go out and get this today if it was released, but with the limited graphics options? This crap is DOA.

Yeah, except that is comparing the new integrated graphics against the old integrated graphics... we're asking for a discrete graphics option (which there used to be, and has since been axed). The new integrated graphics aren't faster than the previous option, which makes it a downgrade. And we're discussing, not crying - which is something you do on, you know, a discussion forum.

I also presented a possible alternative which neither you or anyone else responded to... maybe you could be more productive instead of just being a troll?

People are crying. It's post after post of bitching and complaining. It's not discussing. It's "You screwed me Apple and I'm mad." People going on about how they won't be giving them their dollars. It's a whole "I'm taking my ball and going home." attitude. The old graphics option was hardly any better than the integrated graphics. This integrated graphics should be slightly better than it.

Remember, Apple makes this machine to sell to those looking for web browsing, email, word processing and maybe light game. It's not meant to be a gaming machine. For 99% of those that consider the Mac mini, it's more than enough as it stands. Those looking to game should look elsewhere as that has never been what this machine was about.

I can see why you're all so disappointment from new MacMini (no dedicate GPU)... but im happy from this upgrade, its gona be stronger form the 2011 MMS, and since im going to use it with Logic, any graphic card will do the job for me.

Just wondering if i can have 2 HDDs in the MacMini like the MMS...
if so, MacMini 2.6GHz quad-core i7 + 16GB + SSD\HDD combo will be the new heart in my studio :D

PS -
Has anyone know if the 'fusion drive' option gona be 1TB 5400rpm or 7200rpm + 128GB SSD, or its 1TB in total ??

Apple prices on the website do not contain VAT (European websites do), and we Europeans get two years of warranty and associated service. That costs money, just as store rent or property is more expensive here in Europe than in the US.

There are numerous elements in the equation why we would pay more for the same device.

Yeah, China is not located the same for Europeans and Americans, apparently...

However, even with the VAT concern, why the price passed from 599 euros to 629 ?
That one, I wish I have an explaination.

Edit : and by the way, "we european" have a 2 year warranty only if we buy it to a (physical) reseller. Bought on the online Apple store, it's 1 year. I have had the discussion with a reseller last week.
And buying to a physical reseller (Apple stores excluded) suppress potential offers (student discount, etc).

This is nice small computer with good specs. And for all that people who's crying that there is "no graphics card": Intel HD4000 IS A GRAPHIC CARD and I can't imagine what are you planing to do on your macs if HD4000 is not enough for you.

No offense, but that's what these forums are for. People are disappointed and it should be easy to understand why. That said, the old Mini served to help people get into gaming on the Mac. Especially since the only machine Apple has that okay for gaming is the iMac, but too only covers a certain niche. What other options do Mac gamers have? It shouldn't be too much to ask for an update to the discrete card in the previous model. I would easily pay extra for it if it were an option like it was before.

Not having it at all is just asking for people to be upset.

Discrete Graphics

I was also waiting for the quad-core + discrete option. BUT after purchasing an Air with Intel 4000 earlier this year, I have to say I am pretty happy with it.

Also, at least it comes with 512MB memory per apple site:

Testing conducted by Apple in October 2012 using preproduction 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-based Mac mini units with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 512MB graphics memory, and shipping 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-based Mac mini units with Intel HD Graphics 3000 and 384MB graphics memory, all configured with 4GB RAM. Portal v(5042)(620) tested using LaserStairs.dem, medium graphics quality, no anti-aliasing, trilinear anisotropic filtering, at 2560x1440. Half-Life 2: Episode Two v(4295)(420) tested using storm.dem, medium graphics quality, no anti-aliasing, trilinear anisotropic filtering, at 2560x1440. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Mac mini.

I'm guessing that the base model i5 at 599 is a decent option to run a couple of AppleTV's though, right? That's what I'm considering it for. Just something so I don't need to leave my iMac on all the time...

Graphic power is not measured in the amount of ram.

Yeah but that HD4000 will destroy an SGI with a highend IMPACT board and outperform a Cray C90.

So you get your visualization workstation/unix and a Cray with HIPPI and SSD option in a small box the size of a couple of CD cases :D

I did not realize that the newer intel integrated graphics came with their own memory, and no longer ate up system memory. Thanks for clearing that up! It makes me feel a bit better about the mini, although let's face it - one can't really build a better small computer for that price.

it's sooooo tiny and quiet without an external power brick. That's nuts.

Uhhh... How about anything more than web browsing? Just because you use your computer only to look at macrumors doesn't mean everybody does!

I'm going to buy an older gen with discrete graphics from a friend super cheap now.

Thanks Apple. I just saved a ton of money not buying your new mini with crappy graphics. :)

Although the SSD is tempting... can anyone verify if I can add an SSD to a previous gen mac mini by myself?

You can upgrade the drive using the vids on OWC. They show step by step how its done. Not simple but worth the effort.

Price is a scandal.

599 dollars for the US market (461 euros)

629 euros for the European Market (777 US dollars).

It's not even 1:1 parity !
Here, Apple is really taking its (european) consumer for an idiot.

looks like they expect the euro to plummet. :(

Would the new mini outperform the Mac Pro 1,1 with 2x 3ghz Xeons and a GeForce 8800 GT? Mostly for daily work-related Photoshop use...I don't play any games on it.

I was thinking about switching to the Mini so I can get USB 3 and run Mountain Lion, but I don't want to go backwards.

I use an older Mac Mini as a media server for streaming music and movies throughout my house. Will also be hooked up to HD TV for viewing internet streaming and Netflix. No gaming.

Been waiting to upgrade and had high hopes for this new one. Can anyone tell me if the lack of discrete graphics card will make a big difference in this application?

Thanks.
