I've heard that the 4000 is pretty fast and is as fast as a discrete graphics card from a Macbook Pro several years ago. However, I have not seen any benchmarks for it yet.

Most of the reviews I have seen, has it basically a push between the 6630M and the HD4000. Some win, some lose. It's much like when Apple went from the Geforce 320M to the Intel HD3000 in the 2011 MBA's. Processing wise we got a bump, but the GPU was more or less a push (again some things the 320M won and others the HD3000).

The HD4000 is a much stronger IGP than the HD3000 and more or less makes up for the 6630M being removed. Although I think the real loss is many were hoping for something like the Nvidia 640LE to be included with say the quad core 2.1GHZ processor but instead we got the 2.3Ghz Quad core.
 
I'm pretty disappointed that discrete is gone :( It feels like being cheated when buying the $799 version when before a discrete was given. Need to think over whether the $200 premium from the base is worth it now...
 
Wow, I was actually going to sell my Mini and buy the new one even though it's less than 2 years old.
Without a graphics card there's no reason to.
Amazing how much Apple cares about my bank account by the fact that they almost always leave out something which makes me decide to keep my old machine.

Is it looking like a 3720QM for the upgraded option on the Mini?

I had no problems with the HD4000 graphics on the 2010 Air. Cinebenches about 5.86 OGL at Air resolution - nothing spectacular but not about to ruin things.

Mostly coding. Which would be fine, but if you have a few apps open with about 20 windows open, hitting exposé just chugs so badly.

The GTX275 card I have now works fine for me. Reason I wanted to switch to a mini was to reduce power usage and fan noise. Ive taken most of my drives out of the Hack and now use a NAS for storage, so I don't need a big box.

Aw, that's too bad.

It was funny to see how quickly the Mini was mentioned during the announcement.

I guess I have to face the facts. Apple wants the iMac to be their choice desktop. It would have been sweet to see discreet and quad. Would have garnered a nice response. Perhaps the Mini was always meant to be a cheaper desktop with media capabilities...nothing more.

I'll be keeping my 2011 Mini in hopes of a Pro update. Not so confident in that anymore. iMacs are great buys but I like using my own displays. Nothing at all against the iMac displays. They are lovely.
 
The Hard Drives are still 5400 RPM!
Man, is Apple a joke.
Why do they hate on this machine so much that they purposely keep it's performance weak?

Not getting my money that's for sure

I'll have to see some performance details before considering buying a mini now. Was looking at upgrading after this refresh, but I can't use an iMac in my config and the video performance is critical for me.
 
What is the difference between the high-end Mac Mini with a 256 SSD Drive for $1,099 and the Mountain Lion Server Mac Mini with a 256 SSD Drive for $1,199, besides the $20 upgrade for Mountain Lion Server?
 
Check out the iMac specs-the hard drives are now 5400RPM as well!
They made it thin so they had to use slower hard drives? Does this make any sense at all?
 
I really don't understand their thinking. I don't want to be a complainer, but what they did to the Mini is crazy. Just can't believe it and after playing with the configuration in the store, I just can't be satisfied with what they offered. So disappointing...especially since I was looking to give them my money today.
 
No video card! I guess I'm keeping my Mac Mini 2011

Just took off Mac Mini 2011 ad on Craigslist. Not worth the upgrade.

I was hoping for a Quad core in the base model but looks like Apple didnt give us what we want.

Time for a hackintosh build.
 
HD Audio

Hey guys,

I'm looking to purchase the mid-grade mac mini ($799). I have plans to rip my movie collection to hard drives and use the mini and XBMC or Flex.

I do have a question about the Intel 4000 card.

Can the mini decode HD audio (DTS-MA, and Dolby HD) formats?

The Mac Pro is said to be coming in 2013. And if you think about it, the internal designs and performance specs of all their releases today is making the Pro that much more appealing, perhaps brining it more into the spotlight for non professionals. Could be a clever way.

I think the Mac Mini was the most impressive product today. Fusion drive clever... Not necessarily impressive. But clever.
 
The upgrade is ok. I didnt expect a huge bump. The mac mini was always geared for grandma or as a HDTV media center. but For my $$ im sticking with my dual core MM, it serves its purpose just fine
 
Was so excited when I saw they added a quad-core option to the non server model. But the excitement left when I saw that they removed the discrete graphics!! That is why I didn't get a server model before!
