Doubt it. I only have electronic music (yes, only). I don't use iTunes match and I don't use iTunes at all (ram and CPU hog and bloated with useless crap I will never use as I don't own an iPod, iPhone or an iPad and don't plan on either).

I use Vox instead.

It was a joke, relax.

If I'm reading this correctly, then the bitching we've all done over the retina display Pro being a souped up 1440x900 desktop environment might be a little unwarranted.

From the article, it doesn't seem to be the perfect solution, but there is an option to choose a UI with more screen space, at least.

Sweet! I'd take that for dev. Coding and overall layout in 1900x1200 then bump to retina or 1:1 hack (if ever) for tweaks.

Thanks for link..

Pissed customer

I love how they screw their customers by not offering the slower Retina MBP with a larger HD even as an option. I don't give a crap about 0.3GHz of speed because it'll do absolutely nothing for me, but in order to get a slightly larger HD that's actually practical, they force you to pay for that speed knowing they can milk a little more money out of you.

Price

At that price its simply a non-starter. Buyers are absolutely being taken advantage of when u compare the exact same hardware in a PC laptop. Soldering the battery in (I don't suppose they stopped doing that?) also guarantee's that the battery won't last but 1-2 years unless it's used primarily as a mobile laptop and stays unplugged 75% of the time. I love my iPhone 4S for its simplicity and style my 2 ipod touch's and all my older macbooks and mb pro's and my 21.5" 3.33GHz C2D iMac, but sorry Apple, this guy has already gone PC for a mobile laptop. You're gonna price yourself out of business if you're not careful, fools.

To me Steve Jobs 'was' Apple. Just look at how poorly Apple did when Jobs wasn't running things and how he turned the company around when he came back. I predict a decline for Apple, maybe not huge and all at once but definitely significant and persistent. Their stock has been on a fairly steady decline since April 9th. If I had any left I would sell now before high water comes and the levee breaks. :D

I'm so pleased I bought what is possibly my last ever Mac: my delightful 17" hi-res matte screen quad core system. Apart from an 11" Air, all the rest of these machines seem like toys, not proper development machines.

Some people need screen real estate. Obviously not the children that now run Mac product development.

I just cannot see the point of a non-user upgradable 15" machine with a shiny medium resolution screen, albeit with a super-crisp retina display.

Seems as if Apple's loosing the plot or just doesn't care for professional developers.

Meh

Most business don't continue to sell things that people refuse to buy. Sales of the 17" macbook pro were abysmal.

A few observations/questions. Interesting that they decided to include a full HDMI port, I have a mini mid 2010 MBP with a Mini Display Port and have never really wanted one since I got my 3 dollar mini to HDMI adapter from amazon. It aclually seems like they are catering to everybody by including usb 3.0 and HDMI.

the other thing is that I sure am glad that I did not sell my MPB, I have my 750 GB momentus hard drive, 8gb of ram. I was thinking I was going to be able to sell it for around 1400ish and buy a new one for aroung 1800 and have a brand new retina display MBP. that would not have worked out well, I will definitly be keeping it for a few more years.

ROFL some people just love to complain

Look you can still get all the old non-retina MBPs, with all the old tech.

And then you're wasting money since they're functionally little better than the 2011 edition.

Clearly retina required a redesign of the entire laptop, and Apple did that.

A monitor, a hinge, and a graphics card that supported the res. Come on now. The airflow was just gravy and I bet it still gets loud and hot.

It's a 2KG 15" laptop. Show me another one, please. Any brand or price.

I don't know if you're referring to the weight of it (beaten by Samsung) or the resolution of it (which doesn't matter to 99% of users since content isn't presented at that res anyway). Either way it's an irrelevant question.

The 17" had the exact same horsepower than the 15 for years now. So I have no idea what you mean by "raw horsepower"?!

The 15 did not have a quad core option until recently. In either event the 15's max clock was always lower than the 17's max clock. That's the difference.

You have money to blow away for all the fast server storage but you dont have a couple hundred for RAM???

If you had read my other post you would have seen that it's not the money value that I am annoyed about, but about the fact that they have to overprice it roughly 4 times. That's just greed. Like I said, the base price for the "fancification" seems okay, 600 usd to add fast storage and a screen. If I want 512gb of sdd I would pay 600$ here, regardless of the screen.

The ssd only 256GB, I think the space is too small.

Small for who? I'm just curious… Does the average user actually fill their 256GB+ drives? When I upgraded my MBP over a year ago, I paid extra for the SSD even though I could only afford 128GB. Back then it was only BTO of course, and I got very little change back from $3000!! That included extra RAM and the high-res anti-glare screen. (Take note of that everyone who is saying this new machine is expensive!) But I figured the extra speed was worth it, and I'm still glad I did that. Now I do serious work with my machine, and it does start to fill up, but as I archive old jobs to a big external drive, that cleans up my internal drive and it proves to be plenty enough space.

So anyway, just curious if people think it's too small just because of how the numbers might compare with other drives, or because they're actually needing all that extra space.

According to AUSTRALIAN prices, it seems to be more appropriate to buy the New
Macbook Pro Retina - $2499

If i have to buy the base model Macbook Pro and upgrade it, these would be expected costs:

Macbook Pro 15 - $1999
4GB RAM -> 8 GB = $100
500GB HDD -> 256 GB SSD = $250
Total = $2349

In addition, you get
Resolution 1440 by 900 -> 2880 by 1800
Graphics 512MB -> 1GB
Slim profile and lightness

Why are you so surprised though?

Everything that apple sells and everything related to parts for apple that arent really an industry standard have always been jacked up in price far beyond a reasonable amount for absolutely no legitimate reasons.

You should know this by now that Apple does rip off its customers on pretty much everything. Take a regular thunderbolt cable; Apple charges $50 for one. FIFTY DOLLARS for a cable. Every computer I've ever bought from Apple has always had its ram upgrades about 3X the price of the normal selling price compared to others for NO legitimate reasons. Its rather disgusting how Apple gets away with these inflated premium prices.

It starts at US$5,000.00 here in Brazil :/

The MBP is priced higher now, too... US$2,000.00 the entry 13,3" one...

MBA now costs US$1,800.00 :/

Seriously, why, Apple? It's been the same price since ever (expensive, but now it's even more expensive :/)

I once did a comparison. I compared the cost of an ultra high end workstation/server quality PC, and Mac Pro. The PC had all-round better components, pro mobo, registeres ECC DRAM, was a Sandy bridge Xeon and a HD7970, and costed 1/2 the Mac Pro, which had much inferior hardware.

upgrading tou RAM in the Apple Store is like buying the RAM 5 times, getting one, and giving them your ram for free.

I won't use the SD card slot nor the HDMI port. Therefore, Apple should not have included these on the new MBP.

Sounds like the basis of the statements by those who were so hot to remove the ethernet/FW ports. :D

Um... because your country imposes 47% import tax to it?

iPhone 4S Launches In Brazil Today With Jaw-Dropping 47% Import ...

It will be interesting to see this new toy laptop market sustainability before the fanboys and girly men numbers expire and how the apple church will intervene with something of a better design and value. What a complete let down. Geeks up north, this is the 2012 economy. And for he good of ...whatever, Tim, tack your shirt in!

i love all the bitching. apple won't be able to please all of you and some of you are arguing over non-apple stuff (whether ssd and flash should be upgradable). So I guess you just like to argue and see who gets the last word. Apple doesn't care in the end, they have their markets they are going after, if you hate it, then dont buy it. I love the new macbook pro, i dont care if i cant upgrade later, ill just get what i can afford on it now. you guys act like buying a computer is the last thing you will ever do. apple will still make their money and laugh all the way to the bank, and if you hate their decision making, then they didn't make it for you anyways! Did you smile at all today?

Nope.

The taxes were always there. With every refresh, price never got up.

IPhone 4 launched at roughly the same price the 4S did.

But instead of 1500, the MBA is now 1800, unlike the last refresh. Apple just raised the price for no reason. The MBP always launched at 1700, not 2000.
