Good luck selling iPad Pros this holiday season.
I believe they are waiting for the A14X chip. The 9/15 deadline for Huawei actually cause the chip making for everyone else get pushed back. Thus, I hope the iPad Pro update will come later this year, like together with iPhone 12 announcement in October. So for the holiday season it is still enough time. The current iPad and iPad Air update could very well aiming at high schooler and college kids who have to do remote classes (that's why I believe they mentioned the keyboard choices for both, it's more productivity related, than entertainment oriented.)

The new iPad Air / 256GB costs €800. Guess I’m good with my 12.9”/256 for €1200. I’m pretty content with the 4 speakers. The best Apple device I’ve ever owned.

I’m not envious of the new iPad. Unfortunately, the the upgrade from 64GB to 256GB costs close to €200. For that amount of money I can get a Samsung 1TB external SSD

One of the reasons to upgrade from Air 3 was to get more space. 64gb base memory would make the latest Ipad pro easy choise for those who are looking more than 64 base memory.

So far, the new Air has two of my three wants: Apple Pencil 2 and more storage.

Hope the Air has more RAM. If so, sold! I’d pick up a 256gb WiFi model. So my biggest question would then be Green or Rose Gold?

Kaz, you’re an iPad Addict!

Pretty annoyed that the mid tier iPad has a faster processor than my 2020 ipad pro. I don’t understand that decision making at all.

I thought they'd use the A13, I'm pleased they said "hell with it" and used the A14. I'm happy for the lucky people who will be buying it. I assume you bought the iPad Pro 2020 because it fit your use-case and still does?

Im so glad they are pushing the A14 chips to the most new products. This keeps innovation moving forward and keeps the iPad brand way at the forefront of tablets.
Great for consumers, developers and Apple.

I am little disappointed about Touch ID in power button and no under screen Touch ID. Other than that good

I retract that statement now I’ve seen the pricing.

The new Air wifi only at the lowest practical storage level (256GB) is only €50/£40 cheaper than the equivalent 2020 Pro (128GB).

So for that small extra, you get ProMotion, Face ID, better camera array with LIDAR scanner, and a slightly slower A12X chip on the Pro.
And likely more RAM with the Pro. And for those in US (at least) free AirPod through education ;)

What 11" ipad pro has over the new ipad air

- 0.1"
- up to 1T SSD
- 10MP Ultra Wide
- starting with 128GB instead of 64 SSD
- the dimensions and weight are almost the same
- 600 nits max brightness over 500nits on the air
- ProMotion technology
- Brighter True Tone flash
- Four speaker audio
- faceID / touchID
- LIDAR
- more Ram

So, i hope this will be helpful

Yup, and you can also add that the iPad Pro’s refresh rate is 120hz, and the new iPad Air 4 still only has 60hz ;) Oh, the Air 4’s bezel are a bit bigger too

Does that mean that iPhone 12 will also get the new Touch ID power button?

Now that I think about it, Touch ID power button on iPhone is less practical since most iPhones go into Apple cases that cover the button.

If Apple were to do this (they absolutely should), they'd just make this year's cases not cover the button.

I think Apple needs to dump the current numerical-based naming convention for chipsets. It's gotten really confusing trying to understand which chipset is better/faster. Most people will just assume the higher the numerical value the faster CPU, when it may not be the case.

I am SO glad iPad Air now has USB-C. Now we just need USB-C on iPhone. Apple has no excuse for keeping their antiquated Lightning connector on such a high-end, expensive device!
You’d better bet wrapping your iPhone to a charging pad while on the go instead of apple going for USB-C port.

Why? Does it no longer have 6GB RAM, LiDAR, ultrawide camera? 4 speakers? Fastest CPU and GPU? ProMotion?

It’ll be years before the Air gets those features, if ever.

With “non pro users” I was referring to consumers that don’t have a need for those features yet purchase a Pro model as a name sake.
In any case half those features you listed must be those items that you believe are important and useful to you. You also forgot to mention face unlock.

These things are beasts. I use my iPad all day and every day, even more than before with Covid work from home set up. But I can't justify upgrading from my 2017 iPad Pro. And I'm not really sure what would cause me to need to upgrade from that guy. iPads are just great devices and even the old ones are kind of freaking amazing.

How weird that A14 gets introduced in a product that’s not an iPhone. This is a first right?

What do you think about that choice Apple made?

5nm, blistering fast chips in these? Apple is just flexing their muscles again.

Anybody who still thinks the new Apple Silicon Macs won’t be very fast & powerful are just being deluded about things.

Nice to see coloured devices and TouchID in the power button as well as compatibility with the Magic Keyboard.
