When she opened her phone, she got a pop up asking for her Apple ID password. She hit cancel, and it would pop up again. She couldn’t do anything because of that pop up.
I wonder if putting iPhone into airplane mode or turning off cell/wifi access via Control Center would have gotten rid of the pop up. Assuming there was was time to bring down Control Center before the pop up came up again. :\

I have had CVV codes autofilled by Apple's Safari Autofill for years.
I always have to dig into Setting / Safari / autofill / credit cards to find a credit card number for pages where the autofill doesn't work. It sucks, but I know where to find it, luckily.

Disclaimer: The CVV code is not saved by default, you have to deliberately add it to the autofill info.

What does this mean for Keychain users?
It will just move the UX once again, after having moved it from the app to System Settings > Passwords on Mac OS.
The Keychain Access app is still accessible on Sonoma though, but Apple kind of tried to adapt the Mac OS to the iOS.

Now, the next step is the other way around, which is odd, but Apple is odd. The iOS will get a similar app as the Mac OS, and it will be renamed.

So, in a way, the Keychain Access app will just be revamped to be a more prominent app on the Mac, with a better interface + have a likewise app on the iOS devices.

Strongbox works great for me. What happens if you get locked out of your account or iCloud is down?
With the new Strongbox Sync feature (other syncing is more or less broken) you cannot access your database anymore, as it is also linked to your iCloud account!

So overall Strongbox is the same like Apple Passwords (iCloud Keychain) concerning the link to your Apple ID/Account.

And yes - you can sync it to Google, Dropbox or somewhere else - but it isn't as good/reliable as other services...

If this is your main point, I would go with Bitwarden or 1Password, as they do have their own syncing structures independent of any other party.

In general another question concerning death (legacy contact security).

With iCloud Keychain you don't have access even when you're the legacy contact. That's an important topic.

Open up “Keychain” on your Mac. It’s Keychain getting a long overdue update. I don't remember Keychain’s interface changing since MacOS 10.2.

Now is Apple Passwords going to support built-in 2FA, like 1Password, or is Apple really expecting passkeys to overtake passwords any time soon?

Without built-in 2FA or until passkeys are more ubiquitous, 1Password still gets my dollars. For now.
I can confirm it has built in 2FA

Not true. you can access your passwords on Strongbox, they are stored locally, you just can’t sync new passwords/data if iCloud is down. I still have my Stongbox going and turned off WiFi and cellular, I still can see my passwords.

This would be the same if sycing with 1Password is down, your passwords are stored locally on your device.

Is it possible to add multiple URL to one login credential? (e.g., you can access many Amazon stores with a single login credential.)

That’s a good question, since with it, one avoids the ’safety issue’ warning for using the same credentials for more than one site, when such a case is detected
It used to be like that in keychain previously and I had to check that functionality to be sure to respond correctly, as I was curious myself too.

It appears that when you have credentials for one site and want to use them for another site, you can do so. You’d select the credentials in the prompt on your iphone, by pressing the little key. Then you’ll get a prompt to add the url to that passkey. Automatically, it will be updated to use the same login for either site.

Here’s an example of the result, where i added two other amazon domains (.co.uk & .com) to the initial one (.se) in the passkey item.

I haven't installed the beta yet, but it's good to know it works. I tried it in Sonoma under System Settings > Password, and it won't even let me change the website. The password app would be a game changer. Thank you again for taking time and try it out.

No problem!
So, I guess the answer is that you can’t change it manually yourself, but you can make the interface of the password filling process do the change for you.😉

How will the app be protected on Mac? On iOS I assume you can require Face ID to open it but how is that handled Mac?

I use a Mac for work and have a work Apple ID - is there a way I can log in to this app using my personal Apple ID to use those passwords on my work MBA?

1. Can't use outstide of Apple devices : worthless
2. Can't use outside of Apple apps : doubly worthless
3. Can't import half my passwords : why? Trash.
4. Asks for a 6 digit code EVERY TIME on Chrome
5. Asks for a click to fill in, no auto-fill in, no auto log-in.
6. Asks for touch ID or face ID = waste of time.
7. As per usual, 15 years late to the game, and it's a pain in the ass.
8. Can't have other infos like 1password and Dashlane : Don't bother.

I committed to Apple passwords and have stopped using 1Password. I’m not really liking the decision. I do like the way the shared passwords works, though. Although the shared and not shared is a giant cluster on Windows. You can’t access anything in a shared group from Windows, so you better not keep a lot there that you’ll want to log in somewhere with. I don’t think it’s going to work out for me.

Something about iCloud and Windows together is just a major disappointment; always has been and probably always will be. Apple sees no reason to improve it but really, they are ruining experiences for their own fanbase who need to use Windows for various reasons. Just because we like Apple products doesn’t mean none of us will ever use Windows.
