Apple is investigating user reports that the iPad mini 6 may stop charging after being updated to iPadOS 15.5, according to a memo sent to service providers and obtained by MacRumors.

In the memo sent to authorized service providers, Apple said that it's aware that some users may report the latest iPad mini as unable to charge after updating to iPadOS 15.5. Apple is advising that service providers and retail staff inform customers to restart the device as a temporary fix while the investigation is ongoing.

Crucially, Apple explicitly notes that a hardware replacement of the iPad or its battery will not solve the problem, confirming it's purely a software issue. Apple is currently beta testing iPadOS 15.6, which may solve the problem when it's released to the public.

Several iPad mini 6 owners have reported charging issues after updating to the latest iPadOS update on the MacRumors and Apple Support forums (1, 2, 3, 4).

I have an iPad mini 6 and have not done the 15.5 update on my iPad mini yet even though I’ve already updated my iPhone to 15.5

I always wait 2 1/2 weeks to do iOS software updates in case there are any reported issues

I’ll skip this version and wait for Apple to come out with a new software update that addresses this issue

I can confirm I have this problem. Sometimes the mini won't charge until you restart it.
Also, if you plug the charger and it does not charge, if you restart with the charger plugged it does not start charging. You have to remove the cable , restart and then charge it.

You aren't charging it with enough courage. Do a couple push ups then plug the cable.

They are just commenting on this now, after all this time?

That said I haven't experienced this issue. Hope they fix it for people.

My 6 is running 15.5 and I’ve not yet experienced this behavior. Sounds annoying. That it’s software-based is likely a positive (aka: fixable in an update). We shall see.
It's REALLY annoying. I have to constantly restart it to get it to charge. Ill wake up and grab it and its at 10% cause it wasn't charging over night and the fact that Apple has still to release a patch to fix it... Well.... thats today's Apple.

Tim: We may have an issue with the iPad Mini not charging. How do we spin this?
Board member: No jelly scroll?
Board member: It’s a break to think about the environment?
Board member 2: Maybe we can get people to think about it together?
Tim: 6 feet apart right?
Board member: They can buy another device and use the measure app!
Tim: Good good!
Janitor: Hey we’re out of 128gb SSD modules.

So glad I’m not having this problem on 15.5 but shouldn’t those who are be compensated somehow by Apple?

Ditto. No problems here. Sorry for others who are experiencing this.

Yes, this happened with my iPad mini 6 running iOS 15.5 once. No matter what I connected the iPad to, it refused to charge. Tried restarting, different adapters, cables and power outlets—nothing worked. Ultimately it died and restarted after 1% battery and then started charging, and has been working as usual since.

Yeah, apparently this is within Apple’s satisfaction, a software that can prevent a device from charging.

And of course it’s not the hardware since Apple would not want to reduce any of their revenues.

Apple’s level quality seems to be very low nowadays, contrary to their marketing and premium pricing.
