This happened to my 14 Pro Max. I transferred everything the day I received it, it was fine all that evening and the next morning it suddenly shut down. I had to hard reboot it, luckily everything was still on it and it is fine now. I transferred from a Pro Max 11 and I remember the same thing happening with it, because my son did a hard reboot on it for me.

I didn’t have this problem but couldn’t restore from back up or transfer from my 128gb 12 Pro to my 256gb 14 Pro because apparently there wasn’t enough space on the new 14 Pro. Tried numerous times including restoring from a backup on my Mac.

Contacted Apple support and they had no advice. Said they’d look at advice documentation and get back to me. That was a couple of days ago.

I had that problem too … reset worked and I chose the other restore / transfer option

Nothing’s going on wrong with those apps. Neither the rest. No shaking. Absolutely nothing. Unsure what the we claim is all about . Can someone screen record it?

My 14 Pro Max was completely frozen and unresponsive after data transfer directly from my 13 Pro Max. Had to hold the volume and power button for what felt like a minute until it finally rebooted. Once rebooted everything was fine and my backup was on the device ready to go.

This happened to me (iphone 14 pro). Had to force restart it.

Didn't happen to my wife's phone.

Had dual sim numbers to transfers, only let me transfer one so I clicked back to transfer second but that caused a bug where had to go through whole process again and then scanning the particle globe wouldn’t work then the device to device popup wouodnt appear so had to restart both. When did transfer said 8 minutes to go for over an hour. When finally finished got the bug noted here. Froze on black and had to force restart. Then finally was all good.

Two years ago my iPhone6Plus suddenly froze when I removed the charging cable. Whatever I did (tried for weeks): never woke up again, lost all my data. (the event still annoys me)

I had a 6s and was cutting the grass with it in my pocket. It froze with a black screen and never woke up. I figured it may have been heat related and got the phone exchanged due to Apple Care +.

Might be unrelated but I helped a coworker transfer their data from an iPhone 8 to 13 and it did the same thing. Could this be an iOS16 issue?

Techie Fanbois at the heart of the progress. Its the debugging season again. Sigh,do not fix what is not broken.

Ok this launch is officially a total —show…I remember the days when iPhones were damn near perfect out the box….day one….no patches needed.
“We’ll fix it in post” is the MO of all companies. Sad to see Apple included.

I experienced it transferring from my 13 Pro. My 13 Pro said it finished transferring, and my 14 Pro was completely unresponsive. Luckily, it just needed a hard reboot, and it kept all the transferred data. It was a bit scary at first though.
Same exact thing happened to me. Luckily after a hard reboot (detailed at the top of this page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201412) the phone booted up normally and was fully set up. Still worried me for a few minutes though.

UPDATE: One of the iphones went "dead" again. Needed a hard reset to fix.

Two iPhone 14 Pro Max's seemed "bricked" after transfer from iphone 13's. Totally blacked out. Hard reset fixed. A bit disconcerting for a while.

As long as we're on the topic of data transfer between phones...
I did have to do such a thing when I upgraded from my Google Pixel 4A to a Pixel 6. It did go through, although not without an initial tech issue. Upon first connecting my P6, the data just, would not transfer. When trying to advance to the screen where I can pick and choose what media files, and for apps, individual ones of those to transfer over, it would freeze there. When I did that prior going from an LG G4 to the P4A, no issues. Here, my workaround was to just set up the phone without copying over data. After that, there was something I can tap to bring that back. THAT time, I was able to transfer data over!

I guess for folks having issues with their Iph14's, so if it's an option to copy data over after you set up your phone, and see if that works?

I did not do a transfer using iCloud. I do not use iCloud. I restored from a local backup in iTunes, an iPhone backup that I’ve literally been maintaining since 2007. Thankfully everything seems to be okay on my 14 Pro Max as far as I can tell a day and a half in.

People here like to constantly talk smack about me still using iTunes for updates instead of OTA, and backups instead of iCloud; because “eeewwww that uses wires” and “that’s old!” But it’s increasingly proving itself to be the more reliable method of device management. Idk, keep enjoying the paid less secure/less functional alternative i guess.
I forgot iTunes is still in use! Up until a few years back, I was using it on my Windows 7 computer to transfer music onto my iPod Classic :) Nice thing here is you control the hard drive where your data is stored, and can use it whenever you'd like to.

Happened to me. I could feel the haptics but could not get the screen to come on. I thought I was screwed when I saw the Apple logo and a status bar after I did a hard reset but everything worked out.

Anyone else here having recurring lockups? I see a lot of people with one freeze immediately after the restore. My phone is locking up several times a day, all apps unresponsive, force closing them multiple times makes no difference, the only thing I can do is switch between apps, but each one is frozen until I restart the phone. 3 times today so far and 3 times on Saturday.

The new 14 Pro Max locked up on me after laying it next to my 12 Pro Max and doing tha automated transfer. But a simple restart of the phone brought it back OK.

Apple is investigating a bug that may cause iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models to freeze after customers transfer their data from an older iPhone, the company said today in an internal memo obtained by MacRumors.

In the memo, Apple says it is "aware of this issue happening and is investigating." Apple specifically says that some customers may find their new iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max models freezing and becoming unresponsive after an iCloud restore or data transfer from their previous iPhone during the Quick Start process.

As a temporary fix, Apple advises customers to force restart their iPhone if it becomes unresponsive for more than five minutes. New iPhone 14 Pro customers faced a similar issue on Friday regarding device activation. While the iPhone 14 Pro ships with iOS 16, there is an available iOS 16.0.1 update that customers should install after setting up their new devices.

This may sound simple but I had a similar problem going from an iPhone 8 to an iPhone 13 Pro. It's important to have both devices connected to a charger. My first transfer failed as it wasn't connected to a charger.

i have the same problem but can’t restart the phone
