So I guess the point is to collect as many Apple accounts as possible from not-yet-apple-users? 🤷‍♂️

I guess so.. like having to create accounts to get a profile on Apple TV+ (or Apple TV..whatever it is)..unlike every other streaming service that will let you create a profile anytime

Ok? You also said you would just invite people via email, which indicates you are very different from the intended market.

I generally use a group text, but what do android users do? They have to create an apple account to respond..

I suppose Apple doesn't think that their customers have Android friends and family. "Buy your mom an iPhone", indeed.

I tried it one time. People (I think non-apple people?) had to create an account to RSVP, so none of them did. People either didn't respond and just came (or didn't) or they just texted me if they were coming. No one wants to make an account for this.
This is not true.

"If you don’t have an Apple Account, you can still RSVP on iCloud.com, but you can’t add items to the shared photo album or music playlist."

That would be more useful.

Does this even work with non-iPhones? My parents don't have smartphones; would it work via web/email? I don't care enough to even download it find out, but it seems like a huge waste of time on Apple's part.
It does - all you need is an email address (of any kind). It's much better than you seem to think. This is a simple value add service for iCloud+ members one that adds to their library of paid consumer services that avoids the trap of ads and privacy problems all the others players require.

Good lord. Invitees have to create an account to RSVP? Is this team clueless?
No they don't. It's actually a nice service if you are hosting a party etc. Not sure why so much frustration about it. Don't have to use it.

Is this true?? Indeed, no one in the Invite team thought that that is a complete no go? What is going on at Apple? As if swimming in cash make their teams completely clueless or detached from reality. This, but also the iPhone air flop (and don’t get me started on the Vision Pro), or the next flop: the carrying sock that was just announced. All of them could be predicted by just asking a the regular Joe: “Would you use or buy this?”

I’ve tried a few times, and while it works well to create the invitation and to send them to people with iPhone, my non-Apple family members couldn’t view the invitation even though it should work. Made it pointless lol now it’s fun to plan date nights
They make it so difficult for non-iPhone users to accept the invite. Thats been my number one reason for not using it. I get wanting to verify the email by sending a code if it’s a generic invite link, but when I’ve generated a user-specific invite I feel like it should forgo the additional friction.

This should be a richer invite experience in Calendar, and maybe Messages, not a seperate app.

A complete failure of vision again from Apple.

Whoever pitched this project to management in Cupertino needs to be moved to sales. If they can convince business types that this app is worth developing, they could probably also sell a bridge.

Apple, no one is using this sh*t app... Please focus on other things... Here is what you could do :

- Pixelmator pro, compressor, mainstage, motion on iPad

- Apple Sports on iPad, Mac and other devices

- Release a HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV

- Bring back the launchpad on Mac...

- Update some apps like iMovie, iWork or anything ! (Even Pixelmator pro on Mac doesn't have a dark icon ew)

But yeah no one gaf on the Apple Invites App ! (Paid too)

This is frustrating because, as a millennial, me and my friends came of age using Facebook for events. Now none of us use FB anymore and everyone seems to be using a different platform for events. Now you need to keep tabs on them on Evite, Partiful, Facebook, E-mail, etc. I wish this app was better and available to EVERYONE.

And you need to subscribe to iCloud+ to create an invite??? How can this possibly become a ubiquitous platform if that's the case? As a generation, we all need to decide on a platform 🫠

I can confirm that Apple uses this app for invites to its events as I have used it with the. Not one person in my life has though ever asked me about it.

I feel this will go the way of many of their apps like Clips. These features should like just be integrated into Calendar.
Calendar does have an option to send invitations, but I guess it wasn't sexy enough for whoever proposed the Invites app.

New improved Joker products!

This is a great comment 🤣

Is anyone using this yet? I just haven't seen a reason. I'm wondering if this will fade like Ping (or whatever that was called).
I used it once.

Correction to the article: the host will not be surprised if you bring a +1, not the guest.

This update should allow the organizer to set a limit on how many guests an invitee can bring. If the invitee specifies too high of a number, then one of two things happen (which one happens is the organizer's choice).

1) Create an exception and allow the organizer to allow or reject the specified number of +n that said invitee wishes to bring or

2) Automatically uninvite the invitee, with an optional reason specified.
