Wait: “Reveals Top-Secret Rules”?

Doesn’t revealing the rules imply that there is nothing really secret about them?

These publicly announced rules just include a bunch of non-disclosure stuff that is pretty much standard for prototype products being made available to 3rd parties at this point in the development/launch process.

These are odd rules for Apple... They were nowhere near this strict with the Apple Silicon developer iMacs. That said, this is pretty normal stuff for anyone who's ever dealt with gaming console dev kits. This is basically what it was in the early days of the Nintendo Switch. Developer kits are more commonplace now and Nintendo isn't as cautious about who the allow to have them, but there are still controls and you don't want to have it get lost/stolen.

Dude, every phone still uses the iPhone 4 design from 13 years ago.
Flat edges around the sides used in iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, SE, 12 ,13 and 14. Convex edges used in iPhone 6 till iPhone 11.

So if Apple sent the dev kit to my home, where I hypothetically do my dev work, and I let my mom try it, would Apple have any way of knowing I let her try it out?

nah bruh get all the tech youtubers and influencers in on the hype! like do they don’t want people to buy it? that’s how you market fr 😂

Sure they do. They’ll scan the irises of anyone who dons the goggles, and if they don’t match those registered to the lead developer, they will blast your eyes with a laser before setting off a 5 second self-destruct sequence.

Actually, if the wrong person is detected using them, the device will release a pigment onto the skin so the illegal user is forever marked with "racoon eyes"

I suspect there are key features & benefits to be revealed in perhaps one of the Fall "shows."

There were other desirable features that these should easily support that were not revealed at WWDC. I suspect Apple "held back" some of those to refresh excitement and press coverage when more is revealed, probably in the Fall and then again at the actual launch in 2024. I further guess that someone with access could come across some things that would let such cats out of the bag before Apple wants them revealed... like a crack at beta macOS sometimes reveals new Mac placeholders, etc. What placeholders will these developers find in Vpro? If there are some- and I suspect there will be- this demand for absolute secrecy is probably- at least in part- trying to save those "big reveals" for when Apple wants them to be known.

I fully expect more than what we did get to see in the big demo is coming from Apple (not just whatever these developers create, though I also expect some "amazing!" from the independent developers too).
We already found the visionOS beta update file, so people can dig into the filesystem without needing the device anyway. I'm sure Steve Moser is on it :p

If anyone breaches the terms, confiscate all earnings, remove their app(s) from the store, terminate all Apple accounts and black list them from all Apple products and services permanently without right to appeal.

This is such a weird roll out. Super secret, so secret that we don't have any good apps for it yet.

These are the same terms Apple has always had for pre-release hardware and software in the hands of a third-party. Nothing new and I'm sure most other companies would set similar terms. They mainly just don't want them loaned to journalists, in the hands of their competitors, etc.

Curious if they’ll restrict this to devs with perfect vision?
Something I've been wondering about is if glasses wearers like myself can avoid the need for prescription lenses for the VP by wearing normal contacts. Like if all I have to do is swap out my glasses for a couple daily contacts I keep around for when I dont feel like having glasses on (I prefer to work in glasses, but contacts are nicer when out and about) that's a lot easier to deal with than buying custom zeiss lenses
