The pace of innovation has clearly slowed and this year’s new iPhones won’t blow anybody’s mind that’s for sure. Clearly most of the low hanging fruit in terms of features have been picked. That means new features now require much more engineering (and by extension more time) to fully implement. I can respect that it’s damn hard to develop new things in such a ridiculous space budget. But at the same time, we gotta take a step back and see the big picture. The flagship phones are already superb pieces of technology. I have an iPhone 7 and i’d be hard pressed to find anything I can’t do with this phone. I always appreciate updates in camera performance, speed and efficiency, but i can’t complain about what I have already.
Seems hard to justify upgrading every year now unless something truly stands out as a huge benefit for the individual buyer.

I bought my 1G 12.9 Pro from a fire sale last year. It’s amazing how good it is for a 4 year-old device.
Hope you have as good a luck as we’ve had with ours (2 of them). We love ours. My husband went from a mini to the 12.9 and I just wanted the stupid pencil and this was the first pencil enabled device they put out. Love my almost 4 year old pencil, too.

No matter what it is, I'll definitely be skipping this generation. Only because I've moved to a more expensive city and I can't afford it. But I just need the new iOS update! 12.4 has really messed up my Bluetooth functionality

The picture to me is 3D vs 2D. Perhaps implying some new feature the phones are capable of?

Yes, I did mean “black” background, haha...sorry about that.

Also, if you do make another wallpaper with the words “Innovation Only” and with the black background, can you make the resolution for an iPhone XS as well, please?

Thank you very much!

I tried making a dark version but it was proving too tedious to apply a dark background :(
Well, I should say it was tedious to apply the dark background and not have it look god awful haha. There's too many different colors and they're all on a wide spectrum, so Photoshop was getting confused easily with what to leave alone and what to make dark.

I would love to have one as well for myself, but it's just not worth the time I'd have to put in when it's just going to be worthless and forgotten about after a week from now haha. Like I said it can totally be done, but only by perfecting every pixel and I just don't have the time for that :/

Making a version for your XS without "By" however, was an easy fix and I've attached it :)

Enjoy!

Have you tried to reset network settings in the settings app?

Thank you very much for trying to make a dark background version. I obviously do not expect you to spend all your extra time trying to get it perfect, however, I do once again thank you for trying and for the "Innovation Only" version you made.

Have a great one!

I doubt they will show the new MBP, but that is what I am looking forward to. I will not be upgrading my phone any time soon.

Apple released an anti version of the event poster. Those are very clearly Siri waveforms.

I’ve been anticipating a dedicated Siri coprocessor that can be work locally for offline processing. This is necessary for AirPods and Apple Watch which are frequently offline. AirPods can’t even process “hey Siri, lower the volume” or “Hey Siri, slay ___(song)___” if you’re in a subway or otherwise out of cellular reach. A Siri coprocessor would fix that. Common requests can be cached locally, more complex data fetching requests would require an internet connection.

Apple’s reveal pattern has been to announce their new operating systems at WWDC but leave a major feature to be announced at the hardware event. I believe we’ll see new iPhones and an Apple Watch with Siri coprocessors and accompanying features.

Thread to long to read through, probably has been said but the “Innovation Logo” for the event is very organic/biological looking, if trying to read into its meaning I would guess a biomedical theme to the innovation.

I agree with you completely, especially after this mornings news about how Apple wants Siri to be able to have a back-and-forth conversations about your health. I also anticipate a Siri-Coprocessor, though I am not sure we will see it in this years iPhones.

I would say the 2020 iPhones.

By “innovation only”. I’d love to see someone stand up during the keynote and say out loud “C’mon Apple this is getting ridiculous”.

HA! Seriously though, if you're someone who gets an invite this year and something is underwhelming, don't clap! Your silence will speak volumes.

Think you might be right w/ the health comment. This is what you get when you "like" the event post on Twitter, automated response from @Apple Twitter account changing the apple logo to a heart logo in same colors.

Yes we could, not great but we could do all that. I had a Nokia in 2005 that could do all that and it had apps.
I agree that innovation is needed, but just because ten years ago there was no iPhone, it doesn't mean there were no phones out there and with a lot of features.
We, as in the iPhone community. But to respond anyway, you can't honestly feel your 2005 Nokia apps (whatever they were) were even remotely comparable to the apps of 2008 and beyond.

I've read about what's to be expected from this event - and I really don't think any of:

- an apple tv service
- sherlocked tile hardware
- a third camera on a phone
- new materials for apple watch
- pencil enabled phones

... are very innovative. I don't want Apple using this event to try to hammer the idea that these are innovative, or that Apple's implementation is "amazing".

Here's what would be innovative (IMO):

- better than OLED screens on phones and ipads
- better than bezel-less-ness of a Dell XPS on laptop screens
- competitively priced laptops with working keyboards
- better specced laptops than Intel "Project Athena" provides
- arm based macs that aren't locked down

Apple's gone and gotten my expectations up by highlighting the word 'innovation'. My fear is, they're now going to let me down even harder.

Imo, what you listed are improvements, not innovations. To me an example of innovation is Face ID that works in any orientation or angle. But I’ve always said innovation is a personal moving definition.

To me the face change would be an improvement as well.
