You’re right... looks like is not the proper word for it... Apple is years behind in specs and features is better. It may “look like it”, but they will be ahead of the curve, again.
The rainbow apple logo does indeed reference gay rights while paying tribute to Alan Turing who was gay.
I’m adding the word “appears”. Apple “appears” to be behind, but they aren’t really. You’re right... looks like is not the proper word for it... Apple is years behind in specs and features is better.
so, innovation will be just small evolution, not brand new models...
"By innovation only" big words...that means this event cannot be just for iPhones and Apple watch...it would be too small for these big words
I hope it will be an big 2 hours event with iphones, ipads, apple watch, ipads and macs
I wish next year would be 10 September. It looks like Apple is a year if not more behind on design and features already.
No. iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 have already had Home Buttons that were no longer physical buttons, but simulated by the haptic engine. Both iPhones could have had a flat pane of glass where the ‘buttons’ are located and it would have worked equally well.Wasn’t the reason for the loss of the home button to push the phone closer to waterproof?

What UX mess are you referring to? The UX is fine, although I recognize anybody can pick anything apart.No. iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 have already had Home Buttons that were no longer physical buttons, but simulated by the haptic engine. Both iPhones could have had a flat pane of glass where the ‘buttons’ are located and it would have worked equally well.
It was removed because they didn’t have the under-glass touchID sensor ready by the time they needed to feature-freeze hardware to make their manufacturing window.
This led to cascading compromises that resulted in the current UX mess.
You bring up an interesting point: what will the secondary market be for the XR and other recent models, given the 2020 leaks?
Congrats in adv on your purchase. I’m sticking w my 7+ until 2020.

Rounded corners on the LCD itself would be problematic from a software and a usability point of view.
Generally, we refer to screens using pixel dimensions. Having rounded corners on the inside of the bezel would mean that part of the pixels on all four corners would be obscured or inaccessible. It looks stylish and all, but it would render that part of the screen area useless.

Preach it - and you’re absolutely correct.
A lot of those either praising the notch or claiming “it isn’t noticeable” are engaging in ego protection, rationalizing their decision and their purchase - only to themselves, because the rest of us have made the same observation you have.
There is a segment of the Apple buying demographic that will buy anything new from Apple, and subsequently have to rationalize and justify it to themselves - unfortunately for Apple, not enough of them to offset their losses since the iPhone X was introduced.
No, it doesn’t.
You are talking about the ‘notch’ which is a special case, since it was added and implemented without any particular thought behind it (just like the ‘Home’ gestures to replace the Home Button) - the notch is going away anyway.
The rounded corners will remain - and, again, do not pose any particular programming or design conundrums.
... and yet, Apple has suffered a 20% drop in premium unit upgrades, every year since the iPhone X was released.
The notch wasn’t the reason for that - but a combination of the removal of the Home Button, and increasing the prices idiotically did the trick.
The prices would have been less of an issue, had they not destroyed their iconic User eXperience and interface - that’s their fatal flaw.
Yes, by the specs, of course it will be ‘better’, but using that same argument of using specs only, most Android phones will be ‘better’ (with ‘better’ cameras, or ‘better’ resolution).
Apple’s forté used to be the User eXperience and intuitive interface — and as long as all we are getting is the same tired design, some uglier camera bump, and not significantly improved functionality (like the Pixel’s NightSight mode), claiming that “iPhone is the best iPhone ever” will sound exactly like Dinklage.
I’ll be very interested in watching the body language during this Apple Event.
Apple (ie Tim and staff) know that they have dud iPhones this year. Appearing to sound excited will be quite an exercise in acting ability.
Next year’s models will be the ones to watch, when they can wipe the mistakes of the Ive era clean away and start with a fresh design and being lost features back.
So glad Jony Ive is gone.
You do realise they are still using him just from his own company now he can charge more for his crap Designs.
This is actually the last of the Jony Ive “phoning it in” designs that Apple is stuck with, that’s why it sucks so much.
2020 designs will be done by the new design team (same that did the new iPad Pros), and the software and hardware will bring pre-X features back, finally.
Well, as we've had them for over a year now: They are "rounded" physically by being a really precise stair-step of pixels, but in software, the display exists as a rectangle Apple's developer guidelines specify a built-in safe area to keep web and other content out of the corners for WebKit browsers (with custom CSS properties) and a similar function exists in Xcode's interface builder. You can override them to go full-screen / full-bleed though, as many games do.
No, it doesn’t.

the IPhone 6S has no changes from last year. All they did was give long press.
Ugh. iPhone 7 sounds so boring. The 7 plus camera is so ugly and looks like a cyborg! I hope that’s not what it looks like. Uuuuugh same looks as the 6 and 6S!!! Guess I’ll wait for the iPhone 8....
UGH iPhone X is too different! Give me back my home button! Sticking with the 8plus this year. I don’t like new design!!
OMG XS MAX is so boring. It’s the same design as last year! Where’s the innovation, Apple?
eww iPhone 11 sounds boring and camera is ugly I hope it doesn’t look like that. It’s just the same as the X and XS!!! I’m gonna wait for iPhone 12.....
do you see the pattern? Y’all are a joke
I don't understand why this forum is full of people who torture themselves every day commenting how unhappy and dissappointed they are with Apple, instead of simply buying another brand.
Yeah I see a stove top too.
However if they actually did get rid of the camera bump by thickening up the phone, by the time I put a protective case on it, it would be a monstrosity...so bulky! I think that would be a big turn-off for most buyers, which may be the reason they haven't done that.
The XS was technically the first full product line of gesture iPhones, think of the X as a preview. Yes the naming is now messed up a little but if Apple followed the old pattern this would be an S yearWhy is this year being seen as an "S" upgrade. Wasn't that last year, considering the phones were named X"s"?
Whatever gets announced has already been pre-failed by the nattering nabobs of negativism here.
We saw a prototype with a vague release date. I’m talking about a firm, buy now because it’s available.I know. @Tomhauber must've missed it all.
Well, considering some other forums are filled with "Apple can do no wrong" cultists, at least this place has some balance and rational thought.
I look forward to seeing what features they'll introduce that are innovative and ground breaking and that have been done by others for years. I hope I'm wrong...
Under screen fingerprint isn’t really owned by android. Most are using Qualcomm hardware. “Night sight” is cool and I wish Apple would have at least offer the option. However I can almost hear the words “copying” creeping into the posts. What are some groundbreaking smartphone features in recent years from the competition? I can think of 2, but wouldn't call them ground breaking - under screen fingerprint (Face ID feels more innovative) and night sight (been done through apps/tripods before, but definitely a great feature in the Pixel). What are the others you are referring to?
