I am not a health professional, so I don't know whether or not the Face ID lasers can cause harm to eyes. However, it is a legitimate question, and the OP should be commended for caring about health. So please stop shaming the OP and other posters who share the same concern. I am sick of reading all of these knee-jerk posts claiming 100% certainty that Face ID is totally safe because Tim Cook can do no wrong.

I guess 7 years later after OP asked, we can assume face ID doesn’t harm
 
And after 7 years we can assume that PWM flickering from OLED screens does no harm either ….. ha

BTW, OLED PWM flickering absolutely cripples some people in an extremely debilitating way and although this discussion is about 30,000 lasers being shot into your face every time you pick up an iPhone with Face ID, zero correlation can be drawn on the popularity of a technology and its inherent safety.
Some people get thrashed by it while others don’t seem to notice.
