Other Apple is dead to me

I swear this is the only group of people upset by improvements/enhancements/upgrades to previous gen models.

Like, what more do you want?

I'm not going to be dramatic about this, but Apple is dead to me.

Okay, they were not sophisticated enough to imbed a touch id button under the screen so instead they go with Face ID. That's fine. But don't take us for fools by using Face ID as one of the X's big ticket items. I feel robbed. We already had a security measure in place, so what do they do, use an alternative security measure as a big new thing to come to iphone because they have hardly anything else to talk about, they have run out of ideas, there is nothing new with the X

Wireless charging. Yea great. Now iphone is only 2 years behind every other phone.

Oled display. Seriously is Apple that bereft of ideas that they have to talk about what every other ****ing smartphone in 2017 has?

Better camera and more powerful chip. This is what you can expect to be the big feature next year because they will have nothing new for next year so expect a better camera and a more powerful chip next year too.

This was supposed to be the biggy. This year Apple was supposed to come out of its post Steve Jobs shell and deliver. **** them, all they did was another incremental upgrade, and I'm talkking about the iphone x.

Where's the big softeare features? Still the same boring as ******* grid of apps, no ability to customise, not even split screen multitasking, it's 2017 for crying out loud. - "the most advanced mobile phone operating system" - yea right, pig's farking ass it is.

Time to start looking at the Note 8 because Apple is dead to me after this keynote.

And what are the major and innovative features the note 8 brought that it’s predecessor didn’t have?

My next phone should be able to teleport me to wherever I want to go. I dont know TF you are talking about. Apple sucks. 0/7 won't buy again.

Dubious claim you think?

There are doctors who save lives every day, they make no where near as much as Apple does. They save a life and move on to the next person whose life needs saving. Apple makes a piece of garbage and makes billions from it because all the blind isheep have to have it.

But does that make Apple do what it does better than what a surgeon does?

Surgeons peform delicate life saving complex surgery. Apple can't even work around the notch.

I am not a surgeon, but I will repeat what I said so we're clear. I do what I do better than what Apple does. And no, dollars do not come into it.

Good example using a doctor. I think you might need one.

iPhone will have the lowest sales IMO with the 8 and 8 Plus. Phone was released yesterday and not one person inside a T-mobile store. Hard for me to go Android but I’m waiting on the Pixel to check it out before deciding

**SPOILER**

I was going to get the Pixel XL2. Went to check it out in store before I ordered it. Looks & feels cheap and tacky. Absolute garbage.

I haven’t checked it out myself but I can’t leave iOS for some damn reason lol. I’m not even trapped in their products.

To me it’s Not really the IPhone X it’s more IOS that iOS 11 is the worst, I end up buying the X to try it out i paid Tmobile $950 and finance the rest because I couldn’t see myself paying over a $1000 I know it sound stupid cause I’m still going to pay it ... well to make long story short I only had it for 3 days now I decide I’m not going to keep it it’s a good phone but to me it’s not worth all that money , now I’m debating should I return it or just sell it because it’s a hassle trying to return with Tmobile

What amuses me, big time, is how partisan iPhone users are - like they own part of the company. I couldn't compromise my dignity by being a 'fanboy' of any multinational company. I've had all the iPhones up to the 6, several Windows phones, many Androids and currently have a Pixel 2. I remember YEARS ago showing off wireless charging and my iPhone user friends were like 'what's the point in that? It's not actually wireless because you have to connect the charging plate'. My OLED 1080p and higher displays - '720p is perfectly good enough - I can't tell the difference. The iPhone display is the best' and it went on. I've even had a friend saying 'Android phones are for poor people'. Now these same guys are all over wireless charging and the iPhone X OLED screen. Apple makes great devices, no doubt. I have a 4K iMac and love it, but I so wish Apple fanboys would try and be a little more objective. We all like different things and have different priorities - but if you love iOS on a scale of 1-10 you probably award it a 10. Realistically Android on a Pixel to you would be say 8 or 9 but that does make the iOS fantastic and Android crap!

Apple guys are plain late adopters, but is Android still crashing all the time and full of bugs or did they fix all that **** already?

I think you jest! Can't remember when I last had a crash on Android! You do need to compare like with like though. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard people say how much better their £1K MacBook is than their £250 Windows laptop . . .

I prefer iOS to Android for mobile. I think even when Apple was lagging with the iPad side of the software, it was still ahead of Android in the tablet space. Now there is no competition. Android tablet apps still just seem like scaled up phone apps.

As far as security, there is no completion. Apple is not perfect, but certainly does a better job of keeping malicious apps out of their App Store. And every time there is an issue with the FBI not being able to access a phone, it’s always iPhone.

The iPhone hardware itself sets the bar for the industry. The product design is so iconic that most manufacturers create lookalikes. Even the few that don’t, copy the basic form factor. Android was supposed to look like a blackberry device before iPhone was introduced.

The iPhone X introduced FaceID as a way of giving the phone a full screen from top to bottom. But it will introduce millions of people to passive biometrics and new UI methods that will be used beyond mobile phones.

No one can argue that any mobile processors in Android phones come close to the performance of Apple’s latest processors. That’s been true for a while.

When you look at the fact that Apple designs the hardware and software to work together seamlessly, you realize that you are buying a complete system. This has always been Apple’s main selling point, from desktop computers, to laptops, to mobile phones, etc...

People can prefer whatever they want for whatever reason, but for years I’ve been reading about the next great iPhone killer because no one is competing against any other phone.

I still remember when Tim Cook said: "iphones, they just work. Google, they can keep trying" At that time Android phones used to crash all the time. You say you can't remember when was lat time you had a crash but what happens if you install like about 160 apps like I have on my iphone? Is your Android phone not crashing or slowing down after installing a big amount of apps? I remember Android phones were ok right after a reboot but after some days without turning off the phone, they used to slow down. Is that still happening?

I agree about Android on a tablet - I use a Chromebook if I want something to use while I'm in the lounge watching TV. As far as iOS is concerned I just got fed up with that static grid of icons and very little customisation. I'm a bit of a geek and I like to stamp my personality on my phone. I think if you look at a Google phone like the Pixel you are closer to the iPhone in that it's Google hardware running Google Android.

For me security issues haven't been a problem on Android. In all the years I've been using it I've never experienced, seen or heard of a real-life virus. Common sense rules here - if you sideload apps from unknown sources you may run into trouble and maybe Apple rules by simply making this process impossible or very difficult. Google now has something called Play Protect which regularly checks your apps and the device for harmful behaviour.

Android wins with homescreen widgets, the app drawer, app interoperability and notifications. I really don't like that iOS has separate screens to accomplish widgets and notifications - it feels like something bolted on. It is telling that when I text or message friends, those on iOS tend not to notice the message and sometimes never reply - it could be down to other factors of course, but it's always iOS users!

At the risk of sounding like an Android apologist I would say that in a real usage scenario you wouldn't notice the speed advantage of the A11. The speed of launching apps seems to be faster by a smidgen on the Pixel 2 than the iPhone X. In its favour the Pixel has a lot of machine learning and an image processing chip which hasn't yet been switched on. I notice the Pixel 2 has an HDR+ Enhanced mode which is only enabled by jumping through a couple of hoops. It does a better job than HDR+ but takes a few seconds to process the image. My guess is that the new image processor is going to do amazing things with that.

Currently there are 123 apps on my Pixel 2. It is silky smooth - absolutely no slowdown, glitches or hiccups. It does depend on which Android phone you have - Samsung phones have another layer on top of Android and they are known for slowing down after a few months, but to be fair I have read about that issue on iOS too. I deliberately chose the Pixel 2 because, as I said before, it's the Android phone most comparable to an iPhone. A lot of it is to do with updates - other makes of Android phones just don't get updated frequently if at all. With the Pixel you get an Android update from Google as soon as it is available.

Look at it to unlock. Swipe up to open.

I don't want my phone to be at the home screen every time I look at it. Sometimes I just need to glance at the time or notifications.

I wish Apple gave an option to look at the device and it automatically go to the home screen BUT I actually prefer it how it is too. I love how once it unlocks, it shows the full notifications on my screen without having to go to the home screen.

I don’t think most people want their phone to unlock every time they look at it.

Your "I told ya so" thread is the one that's dead, OP.

^ This is a fair review from IGN. That's the same score I would give iPhone X two weeks later - 8.5/10. That's usually a kind of score I would give most flagships worth over $400 today. It's more luxury than necessity. A $50 smartphone can do 90% basic tasks but just not as quick. Think Sam Wilson's quote in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

It's not like your mobile browser, YouTube, or social media app is taxing on the CPU/GPU right now. My only mandatory requirement is more RAM. Any phone with only 1 GB RAM won't be efficient enough to run Dasher app for me. It runs in the background all the time and will continue to refresh it.

I’m not going to be dramatic about this....... Apple is dead to me.

Isn’t that in itself just a little bit dramatic? :D

But what if you use a custom rom on a Samsung? It doesn't become as good or better than the Pixel?
