For the love of Cthulhu, give it more than one input!
Yeah right, they've never done it on any flat panel going back to the original Apple Cinema Displays. I'm not familiar with the Apple CRT's from the past but a lot of them were rebadged Sony's if I recall correctly. I had a few sony's in the 90s and some had VGA & BNC switchable inputs.

Hopefully, this time they will get the height right. The existing 27 inch Display sits far too high, and has no option to sit lower. Even the height adjustable version only goes higher, and has no option to go lower. That's ergonomically confused (neck shoulder strain etc) ... and they've had more than 2 years to fix this.

Hmm... I would have expected Apple would replace the 32" Pro Display XDR before the 27" Studio Display. I wonder where we are with that one.

Anyhow, I won't be buying either of these. 27" is too small for my liking, and the replacement for the PD XDR will be too costly.

I'm looking forward to the new crop of 32" 5K & 6K monitors this year, particularly the LG 6K.

I agree. I suspect they designed it to accommodate the Mac Studio height. Older Apple displays actually sat lower. Here's hoping the new Mac Studio won't be as tall, and consequently, the new Apple displays can sit lower too.

It should come with a built in hub with usb-a, usb-c/thunderbolt and ethernet ports, with a thunderbolt output for daisy chaining, and kvm capability for the price they're gonna charge for it.

It should, yes...
But instead it will look like this .. but perhaps with newer, and more, TB ports

With TB5 now on some Macs, I would imagine it has to have at least 90 hz and hopefully 120 hz as previously rumored in the past. Unless they're planning on replacing the current Studio Display at the same price but with 60 hz but that would still be a hard sell. I'm with others though as I'll likely pass on this and look forward to the upcoming 32" 6K options.

A year to develop a new 27" monitor, insane. What is going on at Apple these days. The rate of innovation is basically zero.
So just release a new 27 inch iMac computer just like the 2017 models with a better chip and be done with it. So many people want them but all we get is more phones and iPads. Apple needs new leadership ASAP

I am not updating mine any time soon, but I do hope they make the camera work better in low light -- it's crappy enough in low light that I now use my iPhone camera on a stand above the monitor instead.

People already complain that it costs too much. Start adding features and complexity & retool the production line and watch the price go up even higher.

There should be two products:

- Larger consumer display (or a large screened iMac) that is aimed at the average person that just wants a larger, good quality display (basically just use the current studio display and drop the price at this point to $1000-1200)

- Large, 30+ updated Studio Display for Pros/ProSumers that has mini-LED, 120HZ, acts as a Thunderbolt 5 hub with a lot of ports etc…this would cost more of course, but pros would buy it

Both of these would sell well.

One rumor you can bet on is that they will rip you off just like they are still doing with the studio display. Yes, I am well aware of how perfect it works with retina scaling, color grading, etc.

Because Apple does not want to be in the monitor business. They didn't even sell monitors between 2016 and 2019.

Apple is "ramping up" work on a new Studio Display, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman said the new Studio Display "should arrive by 2026," alongside Macs with M5 chips.

The new Studio Display will have a similar design as the current model, including a 27-inch screen size, according to Gurman.

The new display is codenamed J427 within Apple, he added.

Gurman did not reveal any new features or changes planned for the next Studio Display. Last week, however, display industry analyst Ross Young said Apple was developing a new 27-inch display with mini-LEDs that could launch in late 2025 or early 2026. Young believes this display could be a new Studio Display with mini-LED backlighting.

Mini-LED technology would provide benefits such as increased brightness and higher contrast ratio compared to the current Studio Display with LEDs.

Apple released the Studio Display in March 2022, alongside the Mac Studio. It has a 5K resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, up to 600 nits brightness, a camera and speakers, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports. U.S. pricing starts at $1,599.

Hopefully this one has a power button...

You need an explainer.

It takes little time to develop a new monitor.

But new products are assigned a release window many months and sometimes a few years in advance. Release windows in tech, fashion and entertainment are agreed upon a long time before marketing, even if they are ready to release.

When Steve Jobs passed away he already knew on his death bed the release dates for products for the next three years.

So if they decided in 2023 that the release window for the next Studio Display is summer 2025, there’s no point manufacturing the monitor until shortly before the release date.

In the mean time they can experiment with new ideas and new specs that might make it into the upcoming monitor or will be rolled into the another version in 2030.

Based on what do you think many people want it? We definitely know Apple sells more iPhones and iPads.
