Very quick install with no reboot. So quick, you'd almost think nothing happened.

Definitely not anything related to security or anything that changes MacOS on a deeper level.

It's still pretty early in the day (not even 9am CST), and sometimes MR & other sites gets informed of these things ahead of time. Sometimes. Plus, it can take some time for Apple's servers to start pushing this out, too.
True, sometimes on normal update releases at 10 AM Pacific, 1PM my time, it can take up to a half hour to show up, or other times it's there the first time I check. I'll give it time to show up later today.

I reinstalled my iPhone 13 Pro Max on the release date with the ipsw (like every new iPhone). I got no error or something. My question is: Is it fine? Or do I need to do it again cause of the new update?

We have 2 X Mac mini running the latest MacOS 11.6 version and after installing the Device Support Update this afternoon (we are in CEST time zone), the Wifi connection are slowing down to a crawl from 500 Mbps to 5-6 Mbps. I have tried resetting the Wifi connections, to no vail. Any ideas?

Strap on a pair and do it. I expect you'll survive somehow.
So basically you are saying a pair of balls will take away his anxiety over possibly installing yet another shanked update by Apple? Balls have nothing to do with intelligence or commonsense, a fact proven by nearly every teenage boy who ever lived. He is right to use his grey matter to make this decision rather than just be a card toting fan club member cheerfully marching into the slaughterhouse we call Apple updates...

This might explain why I had so many iPads fail to DFU restore on Big Sur. It started working again after joining the Monterey beta

Well, I guess you don't have to, no. But this is an update to existing software, not a new installation of software. So I'd update just because I wouldn't want buggy software already on my machine...
Unlike Windows where Apple kind of still continue to “support” (a.k.a, sync function is still there) somewhat newer devices with old drivers, macOS device support gets cut off very aggressively and driver support tends to be strict.

Plus, there’s a non-zero chance those updates get bundled in a delta update somewhere down the line so you might already get it installed anyways.
Play it safe and just install it like any other update. Then you also don't have to keep seeing it every time you open Software Update ;)
OK, thank you all for your replies. Than it will be installed anyway... :)

I noticed that my iPhone 13 mini didn't have a proper icon in Finder, just a little generic sheet of paper icon. This update must have added the metadata so that Finder knows what the new iPhone and iPad models are.

Is this just the modern version of the old days with iTunes when a new iPhone would come out and you'd plug it into your Mac and you'd get a popup about having to download a component?

Of course, in those days you'd have the update before you restored your new phone from your old phone's backup as I did last week…

Good. This presumably explains why when I tried to restore my iPhone 13 via my Mac this past weekend (to get the iOS 15 update they released that supposedly fixed a few iOS 15 bugs I didn't want to have to deal with — Apple Watch stuff, Apple Music stuff, etc.), it just refused to work.

It's still not showing up for me as of a couple hours later from checking earlier. I'm in Florida US, Eastern time. It seems like everyone else here got something. I was wondering if there was a way to check update history to see if it Automatically installed. There used to be a way to do this. Also, I don't have any new iPhone 13 products. My newest Apple Product is the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Beyond this, the mac seems to be functioning fine. The only update I received today was an update for my Epson scanner driver through Epson software update, but nothing from Apple.

I’m in CST and also haven’t been prompted for this update.

I saw I had an update in Catalina and thought that was interesting, so here I am. Turns out, not so interesting.

It seem to have fixed the Kernel Extension issues I had with my RME Audio interface. (Which impacted more than just RME - parallels suffered as well - and so did other KEXT's.)

Now lets see if it will continue to work after a few reboots and KEXT updates...
