Love the artwork!!!

I love that picture!!! :D

I am starting to get sick of the plain white ads that everyone is doing, heck even wal-mart with it's great value labels

I was hoping that apple would change gears a little with it's ads. That splash of color is perfect, still has that simplistic look with (literally) a splash of color. Not to edgy to target the younger crow but just right to attract both young and old. :p

p.s Can anyone find me a high res. photo of that preferably to fit my desktop background 1920x1200. thanks ;)

you go 

Why on earth did apple pull out of Macworld...this would have been the perfect stage for it.

There used to be such excitement and build up to the event. And Phil Schiller tells us that January doesn't fit into our product cycles

I took it more of a "we're sick of always being expected to roll out a life changing new product every January to meet the Macworld Expo time frame" - He didn't say they'd NEVER release a new product in January ever again, I think they just wanted to be able to do it on their own time frame, whenever that was. This time is just happens to be in January. :)

But I agree...I miss the BIG Macworld keynotes.

My guess is the exact opposite.

Content creators need powerful applications, desktop operating systems, large screens, keyboards, mice, graphics tablets, USB ports, RAM and CPUs.
Apple already make a range of such devices. (Macs) And don't want to undermine those sales with a cheaper alternative.

If the rumors are to be believed, a tablet device will be small, light, super easy to use. It will need a custom OS. With its own interface. That means no Mac OS X. No Adobe Apps. No Office. Productivity applications and content creation will not be easy on such a device.

I think this points to content consumption. It will be a media player first and foremost. Movies, books, games, social networking, web. This is Apple's SafariPad finally seeing the light of day.

If you look at the ad, it does not scream "professional", it resembles other iPod advertising imagery. And even the colors precisely match the colors of the current iPod Nano range.

C.

But that is just the thing, isn't it? We don't know. Everything we have been heard have been rumors and guesses in the dark. This is the first thing we have actually from Apple and it uses bright colors and the word create.

I am reminded of something "being in the air" with this invite.

I wont be simple enough to state that the tablet would be able to run Photoshop (the OS will be brand new and will lack the power) but it will probably run SOME creative content apps. A sketchbook program, for example, or the ability to create scrapbooks with photos, perhaps a notebook program where you can make handwritten notes and the like.

I am sure a big portion of the intended audience will view this only as a content consumption device, but I give Apple enough credit to know that a lot of artists use their computers and have wanted something like this for a very long time.

Think of it this way. If Apple doesn't, more and more people who need a portable digital sketchbook will have to continue to go to other companies when they would have happily stayed with Apple (like I did two years ago with my HP tablet).

Wow, this is easy! Steve Jobs is considered by many to be God. He is the Creator. The device is going to be called iMan. Steve Jobs created iMan.

Or, perhaps to be politically correct, he called it iPerson...

As an AAPL stockholder, I am damned glad that Apple pulled out of Macworld. General interest technology tradeshows are dinosaurs; they're a waste of money.

Apple gets far more bang to the buck by holding their own private events because they're not sharing the attention with anyone. Also, Apple has full control of the invitees, the message, the venue, security, timing, etc. Plus the staffing commitments for a multi-day tradeshow are considerable, even if most Apple employees assigned to booth duty were simply driving up the Peninsula.

Frankly, I'd prefer to see Apple stick their money into something more worthwhile, like their annual Developers Conference.

iSlate/Screen with 2 options for the docking

It is going to look like an iMac when docked. Unclipped from the base the Tablet is an independent device. The docking station or base has the standard connector adaptors (USB, Firewire, Ethernet, etc). The Tablet connects to the base similar to what an iPod will to a docking station.

Ideally I would like 2 options for the docking:
- A desktop docking (HD+DVD+USB+Graphics card?+FireWire?+MoreCPU?+miniDisplay)
- A laptop docking (HD?+DVD?+USB+Battery?+Firewire+SmartCard)

I want all my documents in my slate.

But I want OS-X on the laptop dock and desktop dock...
I need more the Laptop dock than the desktop dock... but maybe I need an HD+CPU in the laptop dock... Do I really need a slate then...

Only to replace what I do with the iPhone and shouldn't do with an iPhone... read book, watch video, browse around... but I hate the touch keyboard... Particularly if it is a slate, how do I hold it and type on it... doesn't make sense.

I want an ultra thin Book, with two touch screens, I can read it like a book, I can turn it on its side (maybe only one way so I don't pay for 2 touch screens) and I type on it like a netbook... too heavy, this thing will be too heavy...

Not sure they can come out for something for me. a MBP is the thing for me.

For my mum, OK, a slate would do.

Stile can't wait to be surprised...

I've siad it before, and will say again now, I think that the 'killer feature' will be the way in which it interacts with other Apple devices/computers - thus allowing it to become part of the creative process. Of course it will have great for digital consumption too, but this interactive bit will be the real point of difference between this device and others on the market. And will be so hard for other manufacturers to imitate!;)

iAdam. But whoever owns Coleco's IP would sue.

I am pretty sure Apple is unveiling their new web site that is integrated with all of their devices that lets consumers rate their favorite and least favorite products as quickly as a few key punches.

Apple will be announcing iRate on the 27th of January.

Aren't you really saying that the people that end up Not liking what Apple shows will actually be iRate? :D;)

You changed you avatar? What does the new one mean?

Just for the playoffs. It Mark Sanchez' (NY Jets) jersey. :D
