The timing of Apple's invitations is always done to steal the thunder from their competitor's announcements. Lots of competitors doing announcements today and tomorrow, but the news is going to be abuzz about this little invitation with a 12 and a 5 on it.

Not so much supporting your point as opposing the other guy.
Yes well there are two positions, so opposing the other guy is supporting my poing by default.

Both iPhone 4 models had A5 processors and run iOS 5. The 3GS runs iOS 6. I would not get to hung up on that.
I agree - yet people do get hung up on it.

I just had a tiny orgasm.

This is weirdly exciting. I've waited for new phone releases before but this is my first iPhone release.

Unary numbers & Recessed machined area

On a practical level "the New iPhone" name only works for one generation. (There is a tribe in Australia that used a unary number system though. 1 = one, five = one one one one one.) That would make this iPhone the "New new new new iPhone" ;)

What is of greater interest is the recessed milled square shown on some of the leaked photos of back panels in front of the Apple logo ???

Also the obviously reversable 9-pin connector ; switchable pins for video , etc.? Looks like a very elegant design.

The iPhone 6 trolls will be vanquished forever, driven back to their caves of lunacy by a shimmering sword of common sense!

Made an account specifically so I could congratulate you a fine post good sir. Such few words, yet so much merriment.

PS: (It will be "The New iPhone") ;)

How is naming the 6th iPhone the iPhone 5 not complicated? The only thing we all know for certain is the next iPhone will be the 6th one. What they call it is irrelevant.

Which previous iPhone has been so named because of its generational number?

Hmmm, for the general public, continuing the numbering scheme is a much better marketing strategy than skipping one, having all these people ask where the iPhone 5 was, and have to explain that its the 6th generation and that the 4S was the 5th generation, but other than the 4 (which happened by coincidence) no other iPhone was named for it's generation.

And as I've said, if they start naming each iPhone "the new iPhone" in 2 years we will have 3 "new iPhones" on the market at the same time.

Apple sure likes to "THINK DIFFERENT". Especially in product naming schemes. LOL
I sure wasn't expecting it being called the iPhone 5!

so they will release 5 new products!!
they were really doubling down on secrecy then :D

seriously, i'm just sad this will put to an end the dispute about the 5 6th gen name... i still laughed every time i read comments!

If you look carefully at the shadow, at the top of the 5, between the 1 and 2, it looks like about the right aspect ratio for the rumored iPhone 5. :)

There's clearly a "5" in the shadow of the invitation, suggesting that Apple's next iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 5.

Oh well. I guess we can stop the guess-the-next-gen-iPhone-name threads.

(And maybe putting a "5" in the new iPhone's marketing name will help reinforce the impression that
Apple is leading. "5" is greater than "III" etc.)

<Insert random letters and numbers and other spam because of excitement here>.

I'm so psyched for this.
